ActionScript 3.0 :: Flex Embedding Images And Dynamic Variables
Jul 18, 2011
I'm having some trouble with loading images for my tiles in a small game I'm making. It's isometric and tile based. I have two questions: I have a class called MapTile which is for each tile in the map. Each tile is made up of 1-9 blocks stacked on top of each other (like Final Fantasy Tactics). For example, let's say there are 4 different kinds of blocks: grass, dirt, stone, and water and they all have different images. I was considering embedding only the images needed (so if a tile is just grass on dirt then it would only embed the dirt and grass images). Will this actually make the game faster and smaller or is it worthless? If it's worthless then just ignore my next question.I'm trying to embed my images dynamically as stated above. So I have an array called loadedTiles that contains the class names of the tiles that have been loaded so that I don't embed the same thing twice. And I try something like this for embedding new images:
Code:
var sourceT:String = "../../../lib/tiles/" + tilesList[data[i]]["image"];
var nameT:String = "block" + tilesList[data[i]]["id"];
[Embed(source = this[sourceT])] var this[nameT]:Class;
We are working on a flex project where we want to balance two challengesa) want to ensure that there is minimal need to be connected to internet- so it can be used offline. This will be used in rural locations with flaky connectionsb) Reduce file size by only embedding those assets in compile mode as is requiredBroadly, the project will go down one of three flows in the module called, based on user choice- Path A, Path B and Path C, which will require image set-A, set-B & set-C respectively (based on settings in the module)We want to send over all images in Set-A or set-B or set-C right upfront in the module called, based on choice made in primary project, to minimize need for connectivity once accessed. At the same time I want to avoid sending all three sets and bloating up download size three times.
I have 2 images that are used hundreds of times throughout my application. Although they are only ~2.5 kilobytes each, they're multitude is causing the browser to load nearly 7 megs of data if reference them like this[code]...
Instead of having this issue, I would like to embed the image once, and then repeatedly reference the embedded object. I'm not exactly sure how to do this. From what I've read online, doing the following should work[code]...
But many of images are more than 100 kb, then the image in the tooltip appear with some delay. Is it possible to embed all the pictures during loading swf, to appear at once with the text when the mouse over?
How can i embed images and videos in swf through actionscript in flash? I am reading an xml through actionscript (3.0) and loading the content But is it possible to embed them and when a compile it , i get swf with content embedded in it (this possibly eliminates the need of giving the content separately with swf )?
[URL] so I can load an external text file into a text box in flash. All that works fine but I'm having problems trying to embed a jpg into it. I have been searching the web and all I've found is that you use the "<img src>" method as you would with any html document. From what I have read, you place that code into the .txt file like I have done:
content=B. Clarke 12sg. <img src="images/misc/briantech.jpg"> Sifu B. Clarke receiving his 1st Tech grade by Keith Kernshpect
I have followed kirupa's tutorial [URL] exactly and the only change I have made is changing the word "myNews" to "content" in the AS and start of .txt file.
I am using flash for developing a project(flash cs4 professional) with actionscript 3.0. I am reading an xml file from which i am getting the path of the videos and images to be loaded.When delivering the swf file, i also need to give the images and videos along with swf file.Is there any way through which i can embed the images and videos in compiled swf file and hence preventing the content to be given with swf file?
I want to add specific images to a datagrid row, depending on the data displayed on that row. These images need to be functional buttons with click handlers and everything.For example, if a row displays status of a certain element, like "Editable" then the image displayed in the cell next to it needs to be a green flag, if it isn't Editable then I red flag should appear.
How can I add a set of dynamic images and then add event handlers to each that trigger a different event? My scenario is that I have a remote service that grabs a set of data (ArrayCollection) that has a className, classID and classDescription. I would like the images to have event handlers that trigger a new panel display that would show the "classDescription" for the particular class that is clicked. My problem is figuring out how to retrieve the proper set of data and adding the images properly to the panel.
Heres a direct link to the swf. (Flash Player 9 Req) [URL] Note that it loads random images to the right.
Now, when I embed this same swf into the actual site: [URL]
I don't understand
I've taken out the new javascript embed code, just to make sure that wasn't messing things around, but to no avail.
[Code].....
If I hard code the php file with the values listed above, everything works perfectly. But I'm using a php script that checks the directory for images, then provides that output.
Case: A project I'm working on doesn't seem to handle font embedding correctly when the font is added dynamically using actionscript. When I test my movie it does not display the embedded font at all. Curious about this is, that when I create an empty project using the same code and then embed the font and test the movie it displays the font without any problem.
Sometimes a reboot of the machine I'm working on will suffice to make the embedding work again, but sometimes is not all the time. So I was wondering if there was a memory related bug that causes this behavior. If so, is there any sight on a solution for this bug? It's more than annoying to reboot eight times a day, just to test a movie.
How did I embed the font:
1. Create a "New Font" in the Library, set the properties and give it a classname.
2. Using actionscript to embed the font in a dynamically generated TextField. package{ import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.display.text.Font;
I am having trouble embedding a font in my Flash file. I have the font in my library. I have the text field selected to that font with the * next to it. In my actions I have: vid_title_txt.embedFonts = true;
If I set it to false instead, it shows a different font. But if it is set to true, nothing shows.
I'm trying to create dynamic textfield with font embedding. Embeding is dynamic like this: public class TextFormats extends TextFormat { private var TF:TextFormat = new TextFormat(); [Embed(source = "/fonts/tahoma.ttf", fontWeight = "normal", fontFamily = "tahomaNormal")] var fontTahoma:Class; private var fTahoma:Font; [Code] ..... When I compile it in flash CS4, embeded text appears on stage fine! But, when I tried to compile it with flash CS5, the text do not appear and no error warnings. What is the reason? Should I use another methods for font embedding?
is there any way to smoothen or make a dynamic textfield look better without embedding fonts? I've tried writing the textfield into a bitmap but haven't been successful with that yet, is there any other better approach?
I have a single dynamic textfield containing NON-HTML text meant to be displayed in a single typeface: Helvetica Neue - 75 Bold. When I author on a Windows installation, the font displays as Helvetica Roman. When I author on the Mac, the font displays correctly as the boldface version.
how to embed multiple weights of a typeface so you can use HTML markup to, say, mix bold, italic and roman text in the same textfield. This is about manually embedding a single font, Helvetica neue 75 Bold into a dynamic textfield using the Flash IDE and it not working on Windows.
I`m making a matching game that uses dynamic text fields, but cant embed the fonts, I`ve tried everything I could think of, even adding a text box with the embed fonts, or loading them from an external file, nothings absolutely happens, I`m completely clueless, can you help me?This is my code, is in as2, can`t change it to as3 cause the whole game stop s working,

First off, I don't have a copy of Verdana bold. It's no where on my hd and I don't know the first thing about making fonts so that is out of the question.I've been searching for a couple of hours now and it seems the tried and true solution is to embed multiple versions of the font off the stage.Ridiculous. Right? In either case, I am pleading to all you Flash Jedi out there to please tell me there is another way? I refuse to turn to the dark side.
I've been working on this all day. All I need is the font to be able to be both bold and regular in one string. However, while the string is being written on screen once it hits the bold tag (I have the string writing into a htmlText textarea) everything becomes bold. I can't seem how to figure out how to get it both bold and regular. Ive tired embedding via AS and from the stage using dynamic text. Nothing has worked.
I've been trying to change text in a textfield on a scrollpane dynamically without embedding fonts. However, the text doesn't show up at all. I tried using device fonts but still nothing.
This is my first post as i m just beginner in Flash JavaScript. I want to prepare a FLash Movie in which all the images r dynamic and the images should change after a time say every 30 secs the image changes.
1) Create a New Flash File (AS 3.0) 2) Put a dynamic text field there, named textBox 3) The font is Trebuchet MS - BOLD. (example... can be any bold font) 4) Using "Character Embedding", I've embedded numerals, for example. 5) In first frame, I put the code: textBox.text = "1"; 6) If I compile at this point, the "1" will appear. 7) BUT.... if I put a static text box with anything typed, using Trebuchet MS - REGULAR, and compile the FLA again, the number 1 WON'T appear!
picture: [URL].. I am making a boardgame in flash Action Script 3 each position on the board is a buttons like this: button_1_1, button_1_2 etc. Whenever a character is selected you want to move it so the script has to add event listeners for positions around the selected unit
[Code]...
In the rest of the code I have:
function userClickedPosition(position_x:int, position_y:int) it selects or deselect a unit function selectUnit(position_x:int, position_y:int):it uses the listentoButton(1) function to add 8 listeners (the positions around the clicked unit)function deselectUnit(position_x:int, position_y:int): it uses the listentoButton(0) function to delete 8 listeners (the positions around the clicked unit)
My question: adding eventlisteners is no problem but removing them dont seem to work? What did I do wrong?
Our Flash web-based applications play lots of audio for narration and sound-effects. Some of our customers have firewall rules that block downloading of MP3 and other audio files. So, we need to wrap those MP3 files in SWFs. In the past, I've written JSFL scripts that automate the Flash IDE and walk through a complicated, fragile set of steps to embed MP3 files into FLAs and then publish those to SWFs. Now, Flex SDK provides the mxmlc compiler. I've mixed ANT into our workflow, and command-line and automated builds have been a joy. So, I want to make transcoding or wrapping of MP3s part of our build process. I've found Embedding Asset at Compile time in Pure AS3, but this will require that I write a script to generate a wrapper class AS file. Is there a cleaner way to wrap or transcode MP3 files into SWFs?
I'm getting crazy with this error and found no solution until now. Well, the issue consist in create dynamic movieclips and external jpgs into a for loop through xml nodes and add the respective image into that movieclip.
There is a new way to embed fonts in CS5. So I've embeded a font in a CS5 flash file's library and gave it a linkage ID. I'd like to embed this font in an ActionScript project using the "[EMBED]" tag. I've tried the following code to embed the "Helvetica LT" font, but the textfield seemed to be unaffected.
[Embed(source="../fla/CS5FlashFile.swf", symbol="HelveticaLinkageID")] private var _cHelvetica:Class; private function someFuntion():void {
