ActionScript 3.0 :: Mouse-over And Mouse-out Event Not Recognised / When Added As A Child?
Aug 11, 2010
Basically I am dynamically calling product buttons, which on rollover invoke a child of a dropdown, which in turn invokes children which are squares filled with colour. What I need is for these squares to be clickable which will then colour something else using the colourMatrixFilter (I'll probably start another post for this problem at a later date). For some reason though adding the Square as a child to it's rightful parent - the dropdown makes the listeners completely useless. Add to the stage and the listeners work. I can't work out why either and have done loads of searching.[code] also if someone could show me in the right direction of pulling the XMLdata for the squares (which will be a name attribute).
I have an element which listens for the MOUSE_DOWN, MOUSE_OVER, and MOUSE_OUT; in that there is a child which listens for MOUSE_UP, MOUSE_OVER, and MOUSE_OUT. The issue is that although OVER and OUT seem to work together (And I like how that is) I need it that if the child is clicked, that the parenet doesn't recieve it. (Right now they both recieve them all, and I only want OVER and OUT to be recieved by both)
I want the child of an object to be completely ignored by the mouse, including the parent's mouse event. For the sake of example, let's say I have an instance of a green rectangle movieclip called Green. Green has a mouse click event that traces "Green clicked." I also have an instance of a movie clip Blue that is sitting over Green. Naturally when I click Blue, I don't fire Green's trace, unless I say "Blue.mouseEnabled = false". I want Blue to have an event of its own, tracing "Blue clicked", so I do not set this property. Now, let's say Blue's MC contains an instance of another MC, a red circle (conveniently named "Red"). However, Red is just a part of Blue that is only meant for show. Red needs to be associated with Blue, but I don't want Red to prevent my interaction with Green.
Neither "Blue.mouseChildren = false" nor "Blue.Red.mouseEnabled = false" will prevent Red from firing Blue's mouse event.
I have a parent sprite containing a child named controlBar, whose visibility is initially set to false. When the parent sprite is moused over, controlBar's visibility is set to true, and when the parent sprite is moused out, controlBar's visibility is set to false again, like so:[code]This works fine when mousing over and out of the parent sprite, but then when I mouse over the controlBar, the parent sprite dispatches the MOUSE_OUT and MOUSE_OVER events again, which quickly sets controlBar's visibility to false and then true, and occasionally causes controlBar to flicker. This is exacerbated when mousing around in controlBar, because it contains four spaced-apart buttons, and the parent sprite dispatches MOUSE_OUT and MOUSE_OVER events when mousing from one button to another. What's a simple way to stop the parent sprite from dispatching a MOUSE_OUT event when mousing over its child controlBar?
I'm having an issue with MOUSE_OUT triggering before MOUSE_OVER has a chance. I have a global mouse listener class that listens to every mouse event and sends the object involved a message telling it when a mouse event has happened. When a Menu object is opened it adds a bunch of children and when it's closed it removes them all. The problem comes when moving the mouse from the Menu to the Children, Menu receives a MOUSE_OUT event and closes before the Child receives a MOUSE_OVER.
I have a flash that has a background symbol that responds to CLICK event. On top of that symbol I have a sprite that contains a Bitmap with transparent pixels. Both of them are added to the stage, so they are not related directly.
I want clicks on the transparent pixels on the sprite to go straight through to the background. I have read about mouseEnabled / mouseChildren but have not been able to make these work. The symbol ignores the mouse events when I use them, but does not pass it along as if its transparent.
Is this possible to do with flash? Or will I have to re-route mouse events?
Then of course both event are captured no matter where i click. Is it possible to capture independent mouse clicks on both of these two movie clips and if so, how can i do that?

I need to perform an event when the mouse moves AND when the mouse button is down, how can I do that? What will happen is that when I click and drag the mouse, the width of an object will change. Here is what I have so far:
I have a map of items and I need to know when a mouse moves over the item. Should I add a event listener for mouse over and mouse out to each item (there may be a lot) or I should add mouse over and mouse out listeners to whole container and do some checking to detect whether the target has item on it or not? In the second way it would mean that the event would occur on entering each map tile in the container i would be listening. This seems a bit pointless, but I heard somewhere that I should add as little as possible.. So what should I do?
I am looking to provide some UI functionality using the mouse- I have two distinct UI events to be achieved via mouse
a) change value b) delete object
I don't seem to have sufficient mouseclick events for both. I am avoiding using the right click as it has some default options(whose signing off will affect the whole project- not just this). I have mouse click used for change value- how do I use the doubleclick as the single-click events seems to get invoked prior?
I'd like to animate a button when I put the mouse over it. I use mouse_over or roll_over events, ok. But what if I hide the button when I click it and then I show it again later without moving the mouse? The mouse stays over the button, but the button does not animate, as there is no out/over event: I have to move the mouse out and over again to see the animation.
How can I detect the mouse standing on a button without the out/over event?
I have created a button class which has graphical elements. In future I might want to add this as a child to other things so what I would like to know is, firstly, can I get the details of the parent object from the child and, probably more importantly, is there an event that tells me when my button has been added as a child so that I can resize it?
What is the correct event listener to detect a child added to the stage? I tried:
[Code]...
which doesn't work. I also tried ADDED_TO_STAGE but that doesn't fire it either. Do you know the correct way to detect when the child is added? Perhaps I should be attaching the listener to the parent instead?
I've been searching around and can't find the solution to my problem. (firstly AS3.0 still confuses the hell out of me, having some real trouble getting my head around it).I've added a custom mouse cursor on my file, but with AS3.0 it already uses Mouse.Hide(); to hide the original mouse cursor and replace it with a symbol/mc.But i was already using both Mouse.Hide(); and Mouse.Show(); to hide the mouse at specific times. (so this new cursor has messed all that up).
I create a button(MC) and want to duplicate it and easily change the text inside this button... basically I have an mc that acts as a button so inside the mc I have text that I added that animates on mouse rollover. Now I duplicate this mc in the library go into the mc and want to change the text, and when I do, the text in the original button also changes. This happens because the text is a Tween so it's using the same tween from the library for the new button. Is there a quick way to avoid this? I don't see anyway other than typing in the text again in the new button and animating it again.
I have a 700px heigh movie, which makes the browser scrollbar appear on most resolutions. If I focus on the html part the mouse wheel works fine; however if I bring the focus to the flash movie (simply clicking on it) it doesn't work anymore! This started to happen when I added the numericStepper component to the stage even if the focus is not on it.
else I'm going to get my hears pulled by the flash-accessibility-sucks people.
I have designed a menu that When you mouse over it, a custom cursor appears. When you mouse down it disappears and when you mouse up it returns. If you happen to mouse down and then drag the mouse off of the menu (whilst in mouse down) and then mouse up outside the menu, the custom cursor disappears. All good. The only issue is: If you happen to mouse down on the menu and then drag the mouse off of the menu AND off of the stage, i.e the SWF (whilst in mouse down) and then mouse up completely off of the stage, the custom cursor appears at the point it left the menu. I have tried to fix this using MOUSE_LEAVE but this dosnt work when the mouse button is pressed down. I have attached an FLA, SWF and the AS below.
I am trying to learn JavaScript and I am wondering whether JavaScript has a event listener just like ActionScript's ENTER_FRAME. Basically, I want this event listener to listen "all the time" not just wait for any particular instance (mouse click, keyboard event) of event.
My stage has about 25 buttons on it. Each button when pressed to tweens the background to some random x/y coordinates and then loads an external swf file. This is all working, but the timing is off. How can I wait for the initial background tween to end before I make the loader call to the .swf file.Currently each button's behavior is called on the MouseEvent.CLICK event which calls a function that knows its unique filename.swf. I know you can add the MOTION_FINISH even to the tween event but then I would have to call a new function and lose track of the button that initially called it.
This is a very basic question but I can't seem to find an answer. I have a mouse over event and have created the buttons with the mouse overs which is working great. I created the actionscript to go to a specific web page when a user clicks the button. Now, I need to add a label to the mouse over so when someone mouse's over any area of the button, it will show them a particular name for the button.
I am sure that this can be done using actionscript in a mouse event roll over command but I can't figure out what I need to show the text. Here is where I am:
what should i do to get chart's data on the click of respective data Legend. suppose i have array [{id:123, label:sales, year:2010},{id:124, label:refunds, year:2010}]for a column chart which has year in x-axis and sales iny-axis.two legend showing labels sales and refund. What i want is to get the whole data (id:123, label:sales, year:2010) on clicking of the legend 'sales'.What should i do? I tried listening mouse click event and itemClick event.
When game starts, the car runs automatically. Then we click the SPACE button, movement of car stops. And the door of structure near car is available to CLICK.
But in coding I got this error code:
TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter listener must be non-null. at flash.events::EventDispatcher/addEventListener() at shfg_fla::MainTimeline/key_pressed()
This is some part of my game code...
case Keyboard.SPACE : removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,car_movement); --street_mc.bluehome_mc.door_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN,door_ready)
I have a parent sprite that contains several child sprites. I have attached mouse click and mouse down event amongst others to the parent sprite. And in the listeners I check which child has been targeted using the "event.target" property. However It seems that the mouse click event does not trigger for some reason. Is it possible that the mouse down event is eating up the click event. Is this a know issue in as3 and is there a possible workaround?
I have a question about making a function for two different kinds of event. It's not critical but I would like to reduce my lines of code and just be more efficient. Basically I have a button on the stage called "Enter". I also want the user to have the option of hitting the enter button. I don't have a problem making these two separate handlers for these events (i.e. one handler for the KeyboardEvent and one handler for the MouseEvent):
I am writing a program that needs to go to a random frame after clicking a button. However, the program also needs to start on a random frame. When I call the function at the start of the program it gives me an 1120: Access of undefined property event error. The function is originally written as followed:
function randomMatchedTrial(event:MouseEvent) { ... lots of code that probably doesnt matter, but let me know if it does... }
the program starts by calling the function as followed:
randomMatchedTrial(event)
Can event handler functions be called outside of the event listeners they are handling?
