Now, I'd like to move the script between --- Start --- and --- End --- comments, to the separate package. When I do that, I've got many reference errors. how the code should look like, when it's in separate package, with all the references to variables that work? And how to call this function from Main class?

Is there a way to make code on the timeline and code in a separate AS file communicate with each other?I have two buttons, a yes button and a no button.I have a confirm box which is a movie clip. In the movie clip I have the two buttons on it and code so that every time one of the buttons is clicked it runs a function.I have the rest of my code for the movie (so the code to make the confirm box appear) on a separate AS file.Is there a way I can define the functions on the movie clip and run the functions with the separate AS file?

I'm trying to make it so that when a user inputs the correct word an event happens. It almost works except that the event doesn't fire until the NEXT keystroke. Is there a way to test for the word AFTER the keystroke has become part of WriteInOneText.text, without adding a separate button or anything? Here's the code:

My code structure is

FlashTesting --> folder contains
Test.fla with one button called cmd_button
engine --> folder contains

When I compile output says 1120: Access of undefined property cmd_button

folder structure
FlashTesting -->engine--->code

All I want to access cmd_button to add EventListener which is in code folder. Seems can't access fla components.

I made a .fla with some inline coding and some classes. In the .fla actionscript I have a function to read thru the object display list. Its the standard one found everywhere, where it recurses thru the objectdisplaycontainers. This works fine.

Then i gave the stage it own classname and moved the actionscript into a seperate .as file as well.


Suddenly, ik get this :  Line 271 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: DisplayObjectContainer. the code line is : function traceDisplayList(container:DisplayObjectContainer,  indentString:String = ""):void

Im currently trying to make an as3 fantasy football application for my uni course, but am finding it hard to seperate the code I have written into classes (which I have no been told is the only accepted method for the marking scheme). So far I have an external XML file containing player names load into a datagrid component, there is then an event listener on the table which loads the player images into their correct positions on a pitch when clicked. I need to write more functionality for it including saving to XML and error handling but feel I need to sort out the classes situation before I continue and it is in for this week.

I was wondering if there was anyway to pause as2 at a specific part of the code. For instance I want to pause for 2 seconds before I enable a button. Most of my code is all held on one frame of the main timeline so pausing the timeline using setInterval is not an option.

So i guess what I am really trying to do is pause a function. Is that possible?

How do you protect part of a .fla file? I see how you can encrypt a swf file, but if it's the raw source code, and you want to protect a part of the file that would never need to be modified, how would you go about it? I had a look at [URL], but it can't encrypt .as files that have global variables that are referenced internally to your .fla. Ideally, I'd like to be able to encrypt an integral part of the code that makes the component unique, but would not need to be modified if the developer needed to add something to the component.

Also, on a similar note, how do you go about including domain name checking in the source, so that the component can only be used on one domain? I've seen articles on using this type of code in swfs, but is there a way if the component is a .fla file?

I have an xml gallery sort of that works fine when I have the code not as a class, in first frame in Flash. So I decided I wanted to port it into a class and the problem I get is at:
thumb = new Thumbnail(xmlList[i].image);
It expects 0 arguments. How come that line of code works in first frame in flash but not as a class? There is a movieclip in the library called thumb with linkage of Thumbnail.

ActionScript 3.0 :: SoundManager - Pausing Sound By Referencing Code In Separate File?

I wanted to have this Zombie Penguin enemy use a walk sound (it would be odd if he moved and was silent) but because it is initializing the whole world, simply coding the sound into his animation state won't work because it will play the sound for every existing Zombie Penguin in the world, not just the one on the screen.

Now I've tried to get around this problem by using a SoundManager class [URL] to load and play/pause the sound when necessary. I've got this working by placing a movieclip above the world and hittesting everything and when it finds a Zombie Penguin activates the SFX. If it finds the enemy and you leave the room or kill the enemy (basically any way it is removed from the screen) it will pause the sound (not stop) and then unpause if you go back/find another instance of that enemy.

The problem is, though, that if I STUN the enemy (not kill it) it plays it's dizzy animation (which consists of hit sitting down with stars spinning around it's head) the walking SFX continues to play as the enemy is still on the screen.Now in the Zombie Penguins .as file it has a boolean that for being stunned or not (bStunned), and a function (public function getZPStun():Boolean -- returns bStunned). this bStunned boolean is set to a default of false.I figure that I just have to reference that somewhere in the following code, but I'm not sure where. The Zombie Penguin's .as is ZPEnemy, so I'm calling it like so:

ZPEnemy.getInstance().getZPStun()

I've tried calling it as part of an if statement a in a number of placesin hopes that calling it will relate the current state of the bStunned boolean, but I can't seem to get it to work.

I'm running into this weird thing with ASDoc. It will only document one package function per package.For example.I have these two functions:

gs.util.printf
gs.util.ftrace

In these files:

gs/util/printf.as
gs/util/ftrace.as

The only function that get's documented in ASDocs is "printf". But I know it can do more than one. As an example, in the livedocs [URL] There are more than one functions documented.

I have been doing pretty well for a fewmonths jumping in and learning AS3 in a professional, need to getthis online and working type environment, but I have yet to workwith .as files. One thing I'm wondering is: I have 61 lines of code for oneapp and they do a few different things. Do I put these all in thesame package? If I don't, how do I tell my .fla to load more thanone class? I'm trying to create a site based on flash.I have 5 frames that correspond to different links and then buttons created with functions to move to each frame using gotoAndStop. On one of those frames i'm loading an image gallery (which seems to be working); however when I click on another button to go to a new frame the images from the gallery stay.I would like for them to disappear when I go to a new frame.I think this is an easy fix but i've been stuck on it for three days.[code]

So I have a simple game going now with a character running forward and I have to jump and duck under barriers. I was able to make it all work so that one of my three random barriers I made comes at a random time at you. However, I don't know how to make it so that multiple barriers come at you. I feel I need some sort of loop. How should I alter the code I have already? This is on one of the barrier moveclips, the first part sets the platform and position to come at you and the second part moves that part towards you. P.s. this is in cs4.
