ActionScript 3.0 :: Passing An EventListener Between Classes?
Feb 2, 2010
I've got an XMLLoader that works fine, but I can't figure out how to integrate it with my main class. I've been going in circles for hours trying to figure out what's the common way of doing this?
I'm sorry if this seems too common, but I tried to search it and didn't have yet good answer for this. Let's say I have 2 objects in iteration and both got the eventListener.
Code: for (i=0;i<10;i++) { a[i].addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN,clicked);
[Code]....
I know about e.target or e.currentTarget, but that only removes the listener from the object that was clicked, not its counterparts too.
Code: function enableButtons():void { for (var i:uint=0; i<40; i++)
[Code]...
I have 40 buttons on the stage. Their names are contained in the Array musicGrid. What I'm trying to do with this code is attach an EventListener to each button so that it will call the function mgMouseBehavior with a parameter to identify the button. For example, I want the button at musicGrid[0] to call the function mgMouseBehavior(0). I want the button at musicGrid[32] to call the function mgMouseBehavior(32), and so on.
However, if you try to add parameters to mgMouseBehavior in the addEventListener, for example:
Let's I have a class Square that has a several functions. I want to call it from a class Grid, which is a group of Squares.So in the class file for Grid, how would I do this:
Code: public function doSquareFunction(thisFunction:Function):void{ square1.thisFunction();
I have two classes, IntroScreen.as and MainMenuScreen.as.I have an input text box on the IntroScreen that captures text and successfully traces it in the same class.
Actionscript Code: public var nameEntry:String;public function startButton(event:MouseEvent):void { trace("Start button clicked.") nameEntry = enterName.text;
What I have is a list of videos (FLV) and when I click on avideo name (button) I want the menu page to close, open anotherpage (the video interface page) and play the video that was chosen.I do not want the video to play on the menu page but on it's owninterface page. I am guessing I will need to save the String namein an outside file for the video class to grab. Once the video hasfinished playing I want to go back to the menu page.
This probably has a simple solution, but I'm a complete newb to actionscript and I could really use some guidance.I have a file, called Politismos.fla. The document class of this file is: com.plaidfox.PolitismosClassPolitismosClass.as is as follows:
I have an array in my one class (loadXML) and i want to use it in a different class (player). I have my two classes here. This is not working though. How can i use songsArray in player.as? Its all good and dandy in loadXML, the array is being populated.
is there a simple way to pass a parameter in the "new" statement for a class that has been defined in the IDE? Like so:var newInternalClass:InternalClass = new InternalClass (someVar);So that when the new class is instantiated it has someVar to work with?
Let's say someone clicks a next button in the FormClass. That dispatches an event "nextForm". Documentclass is listening for this event, and displays the next page. But it needs to read a value (selected radiobutton) from the ListClass. What would be the best way to get this variable to the documentclass?
I am creating an app in Flash Pro using AS3 for my wife to track our son's hockey progress. The app will have three sections: start, data entry, data retrieval.I have created the screens as separate classes to handle their individual functions. My data is stored in XML that I need to pass between these screens.I tried creating a separate class to handle my XML, but I am having trouble reading and writing to the new class. Is there a better way to handle passing this XML information around inside my application? Eventually I would like to have the app write to an external XML file then pull the new rewritten file back in. This code is in one of the .as files already, it's just not working yet.I added my files below (7 as and 1 fla Zipped) if you want to check them out.
I have a AS3 game with about 300 images to load. Method A) Now what I do in .net is load images required in each class e.g., Player class has 50 images to do with player movement and Enemy Class has 50 images to do with enemy movement. Method B) I have read in AS3 you usually load all the images in the game in 1 class and pass the array of images on to the relevant classes so player/enemy images are loaded in a load class and then pass on those images to the classes. Which method is best as I prefer method A?
So i a building a categorized menu of different foods. I have a class for "categories" (buttons) which essentially will return a string "salads", "drinks", etc. I now have another class "menuItems" for items within categories and this handles sizes such as "small", "med", "large", etc. My problem now is that when i return "salads", i want to invoke an array which contains all the elements of salads, send it to menuItems which will populate the menu. So far i have both the category objects and the menu object setup. I just cant seem to be able to send the data that the category object is returning and pass it to the menu object. Both of which are added to the stage as shown below:
If there was a way that i could say add all these classes to one class so that they can talk to each other that would be great but i dont know how to do this.
I'm used to building applications using pure AS3. I always pass dependencies into the constructor of classes I make, but this method seems to not work out well for Flex MXML views. It seems like I should define setters on the MXML class, which map to attributes in the tag/class instantiation. But using this method I cannot specify which properties are required and in what order I expect them etc. What is the preferred method to give a Flex view it's dependencies?
Let's I have a class Square that has a several functions. I want to call it from a class Grid, which is a group of Squares.So in the class file for Grid, how would I do this:
Code: public function doSquareFunction(thisFunction:Function):void{ square1.thisFunction();
The examples I'll use don't do anything - they're classes without ANY members - no variables, methods, anything.
Let's say I extends Sprite and call it MySprite.
I save it in test.core
[code]...
Now I create another custom class called MyWindow that extends MySprite.
I save it in test.windows
[code]...
Then I create another class that extends MyWindows (the example I'll use is a document class - but that doesn't matter - I've tested using an instance too).
[code]...
Notice that I'm not even trying to instantiate the helper classes - just having them there throws the error.
If there is only a single helper class, everything runs fine.
Also note that - as far as I can tell - this only happens when extending one class from another package, then extending that class with more than one helper object.I'm pretty sure there's no namespace bumps or typographical errors, as this is a very pared-down version of the original application.
EDIT: seems the problem exists even without the crossing packages - even extending MySprite in the document class with multiple internal classes generates this error.
I am creating a library in AS3. Inside the library I make use of a bunch of classes/packages that need not be exposed to the end user of my lib. I want to only expose one of these classes.
I guess my questions are:
1) How are libraries commonly distributed in AS3?
2) Is there a .jar equivalent in AS3 that developers can include, but will only have access/knowledge of the classes I've declared as public?
I have an actionscript project which uses visual symbols from an SWC. I have a CheckoutButton which has the following class associated with it (compiled into the SWC in Flash CS3).
I'm trying to import a class from a class that is located in another folder. How do you move up a directory? Using./ or ../ doesn't seem to work. Essentially I want to access a TweenLite Class but not from the document class. My class is at com/myName and the class I want to access is at com/TweenLite. import ../TweenLite doesn't work... I realize I could just copy and paste the entire Tweenlite folder again, but there's got to be a less duplicative way of doing this..
inheritance and building classes from other classes.
I have 3 classes: gfxRoomText - changeable colour gfxRomInter - changeable colour - interactive gfxRoomImg - interactive - only image / no colour
The first two incorporate the same text field and functions to change colour. The second and third incorporate another class to interactive with. What is the best way of creating these classes using inheritance and how?
I have to use many custom classes for a project, each class includes lots of elements(methods,properties) and I generally forget their names when coding. Is there any editor which I can enumarate the elements of my classes after pressing "." like Flash's built in classes?
I am new to classes and I am just starting to follow tutorials on how to assign classes and sub classes and I am wondering when you assign a base class or class to an object(Symbol e.g movieclip) through the properties, are all instances on the stage no matter how many and what they are named influenced and is the Stage/main timeline always the parent? and just one more question, is the parents objects display list all the movieclips that are used on the stage or all the instances on the stage?
I am doing an Actionscript 3.0 project which involves introspection. I am wondering if there is a way to get all the classes within a given package structure.
I had a quick question, I have a movieclip with 15 frames in it with an image on each frame, and a stop action on each frame. On my main stage I have 15 different buttons, which when pressed will change the movieclip to that particular frame (so pressing button 3 would make the mc go to frame 3). I'm still rather new to AS3, but I figured the most simple way to do this was a function which was called when the buttons are pressed
