ActionScript 3.0 :: Probability Spinner - Want 5 Divisions With 2 Colors And No Numbers Showing?
Feb 21, 2009
I am trying to make a spinner application in order to help teach students probability.I want it to be customizable so teachers who use the application can change the number of divisions of the circle, how many different colors the different sections of the circle are, and whether or not to display numbers on the sections as well.So for example the teacher could say, I want 5 divisions with 2 colors and no numbers showing.Or I want 10 divisions with 5 colors and numbers showing.
A:make a circle with a specified number of divisions.
B: Color those divisions different colors.
I am eager to see if this is possible via code, because it is well beyond my paygrade; but that isn't saying much
I am loading multiple images, but some of them have really strange colors. When I load them they look like this: As you can see there are red and yellow, but this is not the actual color.
I'm using CS3 with ActionScript 3. I'm a designer by training and have been tossed into coding by happenstance. My perfect scenario: User sees an easily navigable list of colors, each with swatch (like a small square) and name (text). (I basically want something like the InDesign color swatch list, in dropdown or list form.) She selects a color. Appropriate movie clip is filled with said color. First of all I'm not even sure what component to use. I had a ComboBox that was working great except for only showing color names, not swatches. I could use a custom data provider with the ColorPicker, but the user needs to see our assigned color names.
Is a TileList my best bet? If so, how do I set up a TileList with color swatches and names to then change the color of a movie clip when the user selects a color? I can make it work (except for swatches showing) with my data provider set up with color name in the label spot and hex value in the data spot, with simple code of this sort:
I tried searching the forum and web on this, and I'm sure it's out there somewhere, but couldn't find it. I thought I was done with my project today- and at the nth hour, right before it was time to go home, sigh, - I realized that for some reason, neither the numbers or punctuation were showing up in dynamic text that was being pulled in via XML. Anyone know this one? I'm an XML dummy.
I've been given a task to create a program that will run an audio sequence. The goal of this is to press a button and have a audio sequence run where there are 3 different possible audio sequence outcomes. Each of the 3 sequences have a different % of being picked 20%, 50%, 30%. I came up with a break down of what i think i need to have happen:
within sequence 1 there are 4 audio clips once the second audio clip is played there is a 50-50 chance to skip the third clip and play the last or to continue and play all four.
sequence 2 has three audio clips
sequence 3 has one clip
I'm assuming i have to setup some kind of If then statements or maybe an array. I have only limited knowledge of action scripting with flash. Is there anyone that could point me in the right direction on how to accomplish this?
I wonder what kind of class(es) I should use to accomplish this task. I have two predefined colors, 0xFF0000 and 0x00FF00 (red and green), and I would like to set a number of gradiants of colors between these two colors. [code]This generates a random color, but I don't want to generate just any random one. Does anyone know what kind of color class I should use to accomplish my task objective?
so i am making a spinner and i want it to be like a see and say toy. How would i go about adding sound so that when the spinner lands on the picture that the sound will play. I have pictures and I have sounds. how would i do this?
I am learning Adobe Air and want to get the current selected item in the spinner list I have created, however every time I use selectedItem I keep getting the same value over and over, no matter what option I select. I am trying to make an application for the Playbook and this this my SpinnerList code:
trying to make things for my classroom. Dawsonk was kind enough to help me out with it months ago, but I had a computer crash at school and lost it. Unfortunately the school system doesnt try to recover stuff, they just wipe it.What I want is basically a gaming wheel (like at a carnival, the kind you spin).I want to be able to have a .jpg or something that I can modify (if I change the lesson later, or for different outcomes, just replace the .jpg with a same sized wheel).I just want to hit a button, make it spin, slow down, and stop. Maybe a second graphic of just a pointer at the top that overlaps it so you know where it lands. It doesn't even have to stop exactly on one 'category' or 'slot'. It just needs to slow down and stop randomly.
Does anyone know of a component or tutorial for implementing a slot machine-like list similar to the interface component on the iPhone (example at URL...)? I did find one commercial component for flex at URL..., but am not sure how open this would be for modification (looks like it's a compiled SWC file in the example).
So im opening it up to the commuity as a programming challenge!!For something which i assumed would be very simple, writting a robust and solid multi turn spinner handle for flash in as3 has become the bane of my life.Feel free to download my attempts so far (attached), which cover the basics of a single rotation, and make it look like im further ahead than i actually am.The difficulty lies with the very specific things I personally need the spinner to do,and the fact its SO HARD to explain..Its actually used to control a piece of animation that is 72 frames long.I need the first "lap" of rotation to send the playhead to frames in the 1-36 range and the second rotation to send it to frames 37-72. So two full spins would take it to the final frame, one full spin would go half way to frame 36.
Problem is the rotator handle needs to be locked at the initial position, so a user can't drag it backwards to start with but can drag it backwards once theyve moved forwards. (think of turning on a hot water tap, many turns in one direction until it stops fully on, then the same turns back again to reach the original start position of fully off)I also need the rotator to be able to be used in anti clockwise and clockwise modes. The ideal is to be able to set the total number of animation frames to be controlled and the number of rotations required to reach the final frame, then have the spinner work everything else out for me.
I want to generate a variable number of random numbers less than 16 with no duplicate numbers
Ive posted the fla, and what i'm doing is generating a random number and putting it into an array then using a for loop to cycle through the array for each new random number to check if its already there. if it is, then i want to regenerate that number.
if you test the fla you'll see that all i get in my array is some lovely zero's and i sort of know why this is, but don't know how to stop it.
I am trying to convert a string having numbers to an integer.
//15 9's are there var str:String="999999999999999" var res:Number = new Number(str);
But it is not able to convert correctly as the the var res now has the value 100000000000000000. I know that the number has 52 bits of memory, then why is it not able to do the conversion?
I am creating an Flex AIR app which imports data from a zip file into a sqlite db. I need to show a progress bar / "Please Wait" spinner animation so that the user waits till the operation completes.
I have tried to put a pop-up spinner animation but the problem is that the spinner stops spinning as soon as the database import queries start executing.
I need to run both the spinner code and the import code simultaneously rather than sequentially.
create a function that picks out X amount of numbers from a set of numbers? So if X=3, then i need this function to pick out 3 different numbers from say a set of numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) and then stored it into X number of variables.
In saying that, X will only =2, and =5. So in the first instance, i'll need 2 random numbers from the set above that are not the same numbers, and second instance 5 random numbers from the set above (also no repeats of numbers). Then i need to be able to store those 2 or 5 different random numbers from the set into variables to call them with other functions.
I have a AS spinner class that I downloaded from Jake Hawkes (click here to see it running).I want to replace the flex application preloader with this spinner. I have previously used custom preloaders, but that was just for editing what already existed. Anyone know how that spinner.as could be used instead of the loading bar?
EDIT: This is the extremely cool custom preloader that Im going to try to edit (it extends Sprite) view source enabled:[url]...
I have been using Actionscript 3.0 in Adobe Flash Builder for a few weeks, and I really like it! Bare with me because I'm not really good at it, yet. Anyway, I was wondering how would I go by adding up odd numbers from an array of numbers? I know how to make all of the numbers add up, but adding only the odd numbers I'm not so sure how to do it.
Everything seems to be a string right now & that kinda ruins the whole xml as an internal data structure thing, I don't need a big tree of string I need typed data :-/ Are there any changes I can make to either my XML files or my AS3 code that will force it to cast ints as ints and Numbers as Numbers? Or maybe some kind of type schema I can impose? Not really worked with XML til recently so chances are I'm just ignorant of the canonical way to deal with this...
If I'm creating a Flash file (ActionScript 3.0) based off of a Photoshop file, do I need to use web only colors in Photoshop? I creating a pop-up page for a site.
I am trying to style a DataGrid component so that the background is transparent (Flex 4). Rgba colors work fine if I make "alternatingItemColors" an attribute on the component, but if I try to declare it in my css stylesheet, I cannot declare the alpha value.
If I enter the values as "0xFFFFFFFF", I get a parse error, because it's not proper css (of course, most of flex's css isn't proper css, but I digress...). So, is there any way to declare the alpha value of these colors in the css?
I used the example of the "Changing Colors Using ActionScript" from your site to add to a rollover state on a movieClip. It works fine but how to I reverse the state when I rollOut. eg goes to black on rollOver and then back to its original full color image on rollOut?
I'm working on a Mac. Now I made a site and when I compare colors on pc I get a huge difference:s. My green grey looks like it's black. How do you manage to get the colors wright on both platforms? The calibration of my screen is perfect for print.
