ActionScript 3.0 :: SWF Won't Play In Web Browser?
Nov 10, 2009
Using Flash CS3 and ActionScript 3.0, I put together an interactive version of my company's print catalog. I'm new to programming and it took me a really long time to get the thing working, but, at long last I finally got it. Now, my problem is that the SWF will not play properly in a web browser. It works fine in my stand-alone flash player but when I insert the SWF into an html file the actionscript goes completely haywire; my urlrequest and imageLoader fail to work and my navigational index behaves in bizarre fashion. Could this be because my stand-alone player is version 9 and my browser plugin is Flash Player 10?
So i've made my .swf files. The only thing is they all play at full screen when i play them using my web browser. I need them to play at 548 x 408. when i open the .fla and go to properties it says the size IS at 548 x 410 but it can't be if its playing full screen.
I have a problem and that is my swf will only play once in IE. When a user revisits the site from the same IE browser window or refreshes, nothing happens. If i open a new IE browser window, the swf plays and it plays from the IE cache as the preloader does not show again. This is happening in multiple versions of IE. I do not have this problem with Fire Fox, Chrome, or other non-IE browsers. Here is my preloader code:
loaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS ,updatePreloader); function updatePreloader(evtObj:ProgressEvent):void {[code]....
I am using swfobject when publishing. I do not think this is the problem as when i publish straight from flash without swfobject and try to play my swf in the same IE browser window, the same problem occurs.
When viewing the .swf file inside a web browser, the audio file does not work. The sound does not get played. However, when double clicking on the .swf file, it works fine with the sound.
Why can't I get my FLVs and F4Vs to play out of a browser window but they'll play out of explorer through the Adobe Media player?Once I convert them to be SWFs, they play out of a browser but they're still humungous and take a lot of time to play. 400Mgs as an FLV/F4V and 200Mgs as a SWF. Is there a way to shrink them down to a much smaller file size? These were video recordings of long presentations.
I am putting together a fairly simple website for a Client, quick animation intro and a navigation menu all built with Flash CS4. Works in every browser except IE. I have downloaded the newest Flash Player but it still doesn't work. Actually, it lets me hear the sound of the animation, and I can even see the cursor turn into a finger as it scrolls over the links of the Flash content, but I cannot see the Flash content. The website is [URL]. The site is just my testing site for other projects, so nothing works throughout the site.

If I double click on the published SWF file (thus opening it with the FlashPlayer 10 executable), the video plays correctly. Nonetheless, if I double click on the published HTML file, there isn't any video played at all. This doesn't happen if I put the files on a webserver, the video plays correctly on the browser.I checked the "source" property of the component, which doesn't have any absolut path (the video file resides on the same folder as the FLA/SWF folder, so the "source" property only has the FLV filename).
When I use 'finder' to open and play this SWF, the track plays fine. As soon as I drag the SWF onto my html web page and preview in the browser, it is not functioning, so no sound plays. How do I need to tweak this so it could play? [code]...
I have an FLV file, provided by the videographer. I put in a folder for the web. By looking at my other FLV files, they have support files included (a SWF for the skin, and a SWF for the player, along with an HTML page where it is embedded on).So, as this FLV file did not have these support files, I have copied and pasted the others to go with my new FLV. What else do I need to do to make it play on the HTML page on the web?I checked the code on the HTML page, and it merely calls up one of the SWFs so should be OK with that.Do I need the videographer to give me a FLA where the movie was imported to, or is this not necessary? I'm wondering if I need the FLA so that I can re-define the content path? Is this the only thing I need to get all components to work together and play in the browser?
I have a button with a movie clip animation in it, and I finally have it all working just how I want, but one thing.it always plays the animation when I first open it and test it in a browser and the flash player. The button scales out an image to a larger image when you hover over it so when I open it in a browser/flash player the larger scaled out animation plays down to its original size.how can I can make my button not play the animation when its first opened in a browser?
How to play two 2 swf files by looping technique in Flash in a browserI have a webpage designed where in i am playing a swf file in the page with some text animation. Currently one swf file is playing on my web browser, But i want to have another swf file and loop it with the current swf file and play out on the browser. Is there any looping technique in Flash on this?
I am in the beginning of learning DW and FL stuff.I've got a swf that I've converted to fla. The swf is set to loop continuously in playback and when played it appears in full screen mode. I want to adjust the settings to make it play only once (no loop) and open to a specific size on a browser page (such as half the available window size).Sounds pretty basic and need to accomplish this adjustment and have not reached that level in my learning yet
So I'm building a web application, and in part of the application the user should choose an XviD (.avi) video file from his machine, to be played in the browser (without uploading it). I decided to use Flash for this.
Now I have two questions about this:
Which Flash video player is free to use and capable of doing this? How should I let the user choose a video file, and how can I link the Flash video player to the file?
I use video player from the flash media server and it will playback url.. as this originates from Flash media encoder then i have to enter this on the videoplayer but when i replace localhost with my IP address i get no joy at all. Also i can run url...ok from videoplayer in the media server but it allows the user to use http so how is this achieve as i cannot get it to work at all. tells me there is no connection. also this i try using local host and my IP address as well but no joy.
I am using the script below to move from a flash menu to other URLs. It works fine except we need to play the sound completely before sending the browser to the new URL. We are using external sound files and AS3.
I made a game as the same site URL..Anyone knows how to prevent user open and play game on multiple browser windows at a time?I used flash control to embed flash into aspx page and connect to sql server
in other words, suppose I want to send data, like text, programmatically from a Windows app (such as a browser plugin) to a Flash app running in the browser. Well, conceptually, an example of this might be a Flash instant messenger with a textbox and button "Send"; so let's say I want to be able to programmatically paste the text and press Send or otherwise activate it. That's NOT what I am trying to do here in reality (i.e., no,I am not trying to spam other people's chat rooms or anything)but just an illustration of a similar situation.I can include in it whatever widget or hack that may be necessary. The reason why this problem is arising for me is that AFAIK the SDK that is providing me the data I want cannot be directly accessed from Flash, so I need a way to pipe the data from a regular app into Flash. can I have the Flash app interact with other apps through localhost IP? Or are there draconian restrictions on which server Flash in browser can and cannot interact?
I have a PHP mailer form on my site which needs to be published in action script2 to work, but I also have a script set up to open browser windows of a certain size & location which needs actionscript 1 to work? The PHP mailer form has a "Name" field, "Email" field & "Message" field, theses can all be reset with a button. The button clears off any text in the 3 boxes to wipe them clean. The script on the reset button is:
This works fine with section script 2 but not with as1. Does anyone know of a script that resets the .text field on as1 Alternatively is there any way of opening browser windows from a flash movie with browser win controls, eg. centre win, no scrollbars.
Trying to detect a browser close event and send some data to the database when the user closes the browser window...but can't seem to get it to work.[code]
I have looked around for this and haven't found a way that clearly explains how to do this. More often than not the button will close the browser window in one but not another browser.
Is the a simple way of closing a browser window in all types of browser ( Or mainly Firefox, IE and safari on both Mac and PC ) with actionscript?
I created a photo album viewer which grabs an XML file from my web site, and then parses the XML to get the paths to all the photos to be displayed by the album viewer. The code makes use of the URLLoader class to fetch the XML. The problem, though, is that in google Chrome it works-- but in IE8, it doesn't work. For example, the XML code and the image fetching code work seemlessly on Chrome. But in IE8 and in IE6, it seems to not be able to fetch such information.
I've read somewhere that you need a crossdomain.xml file at the root directory of your server. But I'm not crossing any domains! It's all coming from my server where the swf is being hosted!
[URL].. Anyone know the AS to make it automatically check the size of the browser for the listeners_notice when you resize the browser it works perfectly...but not when it first loads up.

To clarify when I ask about browser to browser communication I mean without a server in between forwarding message. I would like to implement something like this for a game. If p2p in websockets isn't possible are there similar alternatives?
I am not trying to track clicks or anything like other people - I just want to put a browser within a browser that can go back, forward, refresh, accept user-entered URLs, and store bookmarks. Can flash/silverlight/ajax/whatever do this? If so, how?
