I understand how to create simple buttons as reuseable classes, but how could you create a next button that does something similar to the AS2 "goto and stop nextframe", and a back button that does something similar to the AS2 "go to and stop previous frame".On each frame that the user navigates to, is a movie clip, within that movie clip is then another button with a go to and play "Frame Label" action required, that navigates within the movieclip to a specific frame.
i can not seem to get a button working with simple gotoAndStop frame . its setup like _root > EMC_photos > photos_thumbs_ani now in photos_thumbs_ani i have several photo pages all setup every 100 frames with labels page 1, page 2 etc my button is within photos_thumb_ani as a movieclip with code inside this.onRelease = function(){ _root.EMC_photos.photos_thumb_ani.gotoAndStop("pag e2");} I have tried different variations to no sucess
I am completely new to AS3, and am trying to learn the basics, but have been having issues with what I think should be a simple command. I need to have two frames, the first one with a simple button that when clicked loads frame two and on frame two a seperate button that when clicked loads frame one.
When I try using the following type of event handler, i can link from frame 1 to 2, but not back and get an error message:
(TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at mc1_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
I'm making an app in flash as3, but there is a bug in my code. (i guess)
-I can go from frame 1 --> frame 2 -I can go from frame 2 --> frame 3
If i try to go from, let's say frame 3 --> 2, I get this message:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.Why cant I go to a previous frame on my timeline?
I have various movies clip within a movie and my back (mc = arr2_mc) and next (mc = arr1_mc) buttons are on the main scene.This is on my main scene on a first frame
when it goes back, it goes back frame by frame without stopping but I want it to go only to previous Scene. instead of going to previous frame.Do i have to create a unique button? which i did but i didn't work?
This seems pretty basic but for some reason I absolutely can't get it to work. I have a set of buttons which I want to be able to send their parent movie to the next or previous frame. I want to use a NEXT and PREVIOUS button, both combined within a single movieclip, to tell a parent file to go to next and previous frame.
OK so I have a flash project consisting of four keyframes with "stop()" on the first frame so that it doesn't play through.I have "next" and "back" buttons on each keyframe so that you can navigate between the frames.However, I have a problem where the buttons seem to remember the frame they were on and they skip keyframes when navigating back and forth.Example:I'm on keyframe 2 and press the "next button" and it takes me to keyframe 3.I'm now on keyframe 3 and I press the "back button" and it takes me back to keyframe 2.I'm back on keyframe 2 and I press the "next button" and it takes me to keyframe 4???I have basic code on each keyframe.On keyframe 2 I have this code:

I have created a simple navigation bar that has 6 buttons. the bar was created using movie clips then by putting an "invisible" button underneath. as for the action script:on the main stage in an actions layer i have:[code]I have this code for every button, except the names of the movie clips change. All the movie clips do for now is have a graphic go from black to red.The action script for the buttons are as follows:[code]Now when i play the clip everything works like i want it to work...The problem arrises once i load the bar into my header.What I have done is created a new file which contains my header... I added a layer called load with a blank movie clip with the instance name of load_mc in another layer called actions I added the following action scripts:[code]When I play this file, my button_bar.swf load but the graphic keeps playing over and over again instead of only playing on mouse over.
I have a nested movie 1 layer down from main stage that has several navigation buttons that move to different main stage labeled frames. I get an 1120 error because I am somehow not calling them out on the script. I have named the instances..so that's not the problem. I think I just need to somehow direct the script to the nested location. If I move the buttons to the main stage I get no errors and it all works perfectly.
I'm trying to put together a sideshow using a modification of load_images.fla (a sample file supplied with Flash) combined the the 'Kirupa Menu with Slider' tutorial ([URL]) The slideshow uses a 'next' & 'previous' button to click thought the images. In addition to this I have a separate slide menu navigation (currently just numbers 1-7), with a rectangle highlighting the number of the image being viewed. I would like to move the rectangle to show which image is being viewed, when the 'next' or 'previous' button is pressed. The follow code shows the actionscript for the 'next' & 'previous' buttons....
I have a movieclip within the main clip called "playPause" which starts with the Pause button shown. When clicked the movie clip moves to show the play button and pauses the current parent movie with the AS "_parent.stop();" when the play button is then pressed the movie plays via "_parent.play();" and reverts back to showing the pause button.
Simple so far. What is getting me is if I add a movie clip within the parent (say some scrolling object) I cannot get the added clip to pause. For example say the "parent" movie clip the playPause moveclip is within is called "intro" and the moving object is called "introObject" which is embedded in a frame along with "playPause"
What I have setup for the playPause buttons is for pausing _root.introObject.stop(); and playing _root.introObject.play();
I have a movie clip on the stage and have given it the instance name "team1". inside this movie clip there are two states. at frame1 it says one thing, then at frame 10 has an image. team1 stops at frame 1 and what i want to do is when the main time line reaches say frame 50, i want the team1 movie clip to gotoAndStop at frame 10, thus showing the image and not the text. i tried doing it by putting this on the main timeline at frame 50: team1.gotoAndStop("team");
I want to make the timeline go to the next frame (ie gotoAndStop) only if two button instances are invisible. For the buttons I have scripted an on(release) to make them invisible, but I don't know how to use the if function to make my animation progress when they are both invisible.

Currently I have a single movie clip and next/ previous buttons attached to this movie clip. The image changes every 9 frames. Currently I have the code set to change at every frame. How do I get it so it changes at every 9 frames????
I am trying to make a light comparison chart where the lights can be turned on inividually by the user and one can be compared to another depending on which of the 6 lights you want to view.So far i have managed to make this work with 5 lights over 33 layers and diffferent buttons and different handlers for each of the buttons on each layer but as soon as the 4 and 5 light come into play everything slows down struggles and sometimes gives up.Is there a simple way of doing this which i am unaware of.I am currently using the gotoandstop comand to go to a specific frame based on the button press.

I'm trying to create a "back" button, but when the user clicks on this button I want the animations to go in reverse and then go to the frame that it is calling. so for example i have 5 notes, what happens first is that "note 1" is on the stage then you click on 'next' and then "note 2" slides in from the bottom and pushes "note 1" up and out of the frame and stops and shows 'back' and 'next' buttons. what i am trying to do is, if the user clicks on 'back' , I want the movie to rewind and have "note 1" slide back down. Or if they click on 'next' 2 will be pushed up and 3 is revealed the same way 2 came in.
Am creating a two page document in flash cs4. Each of these 2 page documents have links to a learning resource on a web server.All I want is for the user to be able to navigate to and fro this two page document. Infact, I want to be able to click on a NEXT button to go the the nextpage and PREVIOUS PAGE button to go back to the previous page.

i've got a problem where i use the code below to communicate with another movie clip on the stage (from inside a movieclip), i don't get any errors and i even put a trace command to test it so i know it is going to that particular frame but visually it doesn't change, done the usual research, tried using a frame label instead of a frame number and also using root instead of parent.

none is a frame label by the way! extra info:- what i'm trying to do is integrate an as3/xml slideshow into a website which is no problem, however my menu is in another movieclip so its making it difficult to 'unload' the slideshow correctly without having an exit button (exitBtn) and hiding the navigation (menu2)

I have labels home, news, about, portfolio, contact. I keep getting this error ArgumentError: Error #2109: Frame label instance6 not found in scene Scene 1. at flash.display::MovieClip/gotoAndStop() at whywontyouworkdamyou_fla::MainTimeline/navigation() and my buttons dont work. I am seeing spaces in the word navigation why rofl its ok in edit mode? The Fla [URL].
I boggled with this simple script.This script is on the MC. Everything works except the last onRelase function which just won't go to "disable". If I change "disable" to "fadein" it will work. Please see the attached timeline pic to get better idea and please do let me know what I'm doing wrong.[code]
my program is i can choose several movie to load and the movies are save in an array... For example: i choose movie 1 , 2 and 3. Movie 1 was loaded. After i lick 'next 'button, movie 2 will be show .Beside that,if i click 'previous' button, movie 1 will be show. i facing a problem that my previous button is not back to my previous loaded movie but is trace my choices in arrays backward. The next problem is, my first movie load to the second movie load will be a bit lagging. but the rest 1 is ok.
