I am trying to slice or break a movieclip into multiple random shapes.or MCs. I am playing around with BitmapData and pixels but no luck so far.

I know it's for sure a complex task, but does anybody out there know a package or a set of algorithms to extract shapes out of set of overlapping lines? I am looking for something in as3 that would resemble adobe illustrator's pathfinder function (most specifically, intersection). SWF here: [URL]. I want to add multiple rectangles to the stage and manipulate them on an individual basis. Here is my code:

I place a group of movie clips with random types (different shapes on a square) in a grid formation The code for placing the movie clips is this (this is in two for loops):

this goes up a single column in the grid and should remove the tiles from the stage depending on each type and it does this (sort of) until it tries to remove more than one of the same type. So if it finds and removes an lShapes it doesn't error until it tries to remove another lShapes and then it gives this error in the output: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller. So I am assuming that this means it thinks all lShapes have been removed and thinks I'm trying to remove something that doesn't exist but there are other lShapes on the stage. I am at a loss as to what to do about this.

I have a question about shapes (i mean the flash.display.Shape class). Is it possible to import Shapes directly from the library as Shapes and not as Sprites/MovieClips? Shapes are supposed to be faster than MovieClips/Sprites, right? So why is it only possible to import MCs/Sprites from the library? I understand that generally shapes could be created solely by actionscript, but in my case the shape comprises of many points and is curved - so it's quite infeasible.

Is there maybe some sort of plugin to generate code that would draw the desired shape from a drawn shape in CS4? And a last one: Are there any benchmarks out there for performance comparison between sprites/mcs/shapes? How much performance do i loose by using a sprite instead of a shape?

i'm newbie to flash and cs5.5, i'm trying to understand the matrix class usage and trying to follow an example given in the below site,I'm following the steps given in the site but still getting an error saying"...Flash_SamplesTaglio.as, Line 341120: Access of undefined property image_mc."i've an *.jpg in the library and dragged an instance on the stage, converted into movie clip, named that instance as "image_mc". Also linked "Taglio.as" document class to that movie clip but still showing the same error.

I'm looking into doing the following :

I've got this 'map.png' that i'm using as a background image. The map shows a country with all the provinces/states/counties 'outlined' on it.

I'd like to generate the effect when you mouse-over or click on a province you get info on the selected province, maybe highlight it, or its outline.

The best way to do this would be making objects/MC's on top of the image ? Slice out parts of the image ?

when I click a button it loads an SWF, then when I click another button it loads another SWF into the same loader. However it appears to be loading multiple SWF's in conjuction with the amount of times I clicked a button. So say if I clicked a button 3 times it would load 4 of the same SWF's on the forth time and load them at the same time.

I can either have the text based mouse trail OR the random multiple vibrating circles, but not both. I think it has to do with the "MovieClip" name. I am doing a multiple mask where an image is being masked by multiple little squares that drop down.I created 2 layers, mask and masked for each square and image.That part works fine, however, I wanted to load a different image everytime when the page loads, I used the example on this site:

Now, every little square load a random image instead of all loading the same image. Is it possible to ask all other masked layer to call on that one random image? What should I do?

The random motion tutorial works just perfectly with one movieclip, but when I try to make a new movie clip and assign the same code to it, it really doesn't duplicate at all. The original movieclip has an instance name of dot so I created a new movieclip with instance name of dottwo.But for some reasob the following code doesn't duplicate the dottwo at all

I've got a Flash file that displays a series of .swfs one after the other and I'm trying to figure out how to encorporate a preloader into this script that takes into account the fact that I'm randomly selecting which of those .swfs to display first.

Here's what the attached script does so far:

1. Call external XML file and put .swf path names into an array.

2. Randomly select one of those .swfs to display first.

3. Once that .swf movie has played through (each one is about 6 seconds long) --OR-- if the "next" button is clicked, load the next .swf file.

4. When we've reached the last .swf file in the list, start back at the beginning of the list.

I have looked at a BUNCH of preloader scripts but just haven't grasped actionscript enough to know how to encorporate them into my file.

With some excellent help from ilike2 I was able to import random objects from a library that can then be dragged to their respective targets (on repeat). However, I forgot to mention that I need to drag more than one of these objects onto the same target and I don't know how to change the actionscript to accommodate this. I looked on the internet but in most cases a simple range is used like (2,40) or [4,50] etc.

I am currently working on an assignment that requires me to add sound to a mobile game. This is fairly straightforward in many ways but I wondered if there was any way that I could add multiple sounds to a single movie clip or action?

What I really want to do is to have say three or four different sounds for the sound of a spaceship exploding in the game to create variety and stop the gamer getting bored of the same sound every time they hit a spaceship.

detailed as possible. Took basic Flash classes, but no AS other than searching online, taking a couple Kirupa tutorials, so it's all greek tho recognizably so. I have 10 individual "scenes" currently in one swf file, but would love to break these apart individually, and load each into a "container" swf with a "random" code (so each visit to my site starts differently) which I've located and tested with Kirupa's super "Loading random movies" tutorial. Question is: currently I have active buttons in each scene which advance playhead to the next scene. How can I code these to load another swf into the main "container" file and kill/replace the current swf?

Another tutorial "Transitions between external swfs" suggests "if your buttons are not located on the main timeline, you will have to change the path to the container movieclip" - but doesn't show exactly how to do this, and I have to say I can't figure the "path" out! Another issue I foresee is that I'll need the script to automatically pull in the next swf file when the current one finishes, if the visitor doesn't click the button first... Haven't been able to find this with a few hours searching, though some threads come close.
