ActionScript 3.0 :: Touch Screen App Considerations

Feb 15, 2011

Firstly, as this app will be running 24/7 I am wondering as to whether I will need to (and if this is possible) to kind of 'flush' the memory to avoid any sort of slow down. There will over a hundred images and many video clips loaded into this app so I'm thinking it may suffer a but under all this? Is there a way to make it streamline and not suck on the pc's resources and memory and to keep any sort of cache empty?Secondly, whenever I have created these sort of apps before I have just copied my projector exe and the corresponding directory of swfs, flvs etc. onto the pc running the app. Is this the best way to go? Or should I be looking into some sort of other method for distribution? Maybe I need to research AIR or FLEX?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Double Click On Touch Screen?

Jan 6, 2011

i have dynamic coding for a full screen toggle button that needs to be a "double click" button. its for a touch screen. how to allow a double click for a touch screen? from what I know, for touch screens you have to use the MOUSE_DOWN event. but i need to allow for a double click. i tried the DOUBLE_CLICK mouseEvent and set doubleClickEnabled to true but it does now work on the touch screen. here is the code:

fsToggle.doubleClickEnabled = true;
fsToggle.addEventListener(MouseEvent.DOUBLE_CLICK, fullScreenToggle);
}

Touch Screen Can't Trigger Mouse Down Event Correctly

Mar 12, 2010

I am using it on a Sony vaio l pc (like hp's touchsmarts) in windows 7 the app doesn't need any multi-touch gestures (only single touch clicks and drags) so i am using mouse events

everything is fine (including mouse click and move events) except that a single touch to the screen (with no move) doesn't fire a mouse down. it is fired only after a small move of the finger

outside the app, on my desktop, i see that the small windows 7 cursor jumps immediately to where a finger is placed, meaning this issue isn't a hardware or a windows problem but rather how internally the flash app receives "translated" touch-to-mouse events from the os.

for example, in a windows Solitaire game, a simple touch to the screen immediately highlights the touched card.in my app, a button will change to the down state only if i touch it and also move my finger slightly (click events - down and up - are triggered fine)

shouldn't the MOUSE_DOWN event trigger exactly like how a TOUCH_BEGIN would in the new touchevent class?

Black Fri -- Best Phone For Flash 10.1 'touch'?

Nov 26, 2009

I've really been 'chomping-on-the-bit' to try some of the touch programming features of the next release of flash, but I haven't got a phone for it yet.  Flash 10.1 doesn't come out for a little bit so I've been putting off doing any research on it.  But I glanced through the fliers tonight and I'm seeing some REALLY good deals.  So the big question is, which phone would be the best for a touch screen programmer.  I'm not looking to dazzle my friends, but I am looking to have a piece of equipment that will suite my needs as a developer.  I understand that the iPhone doesn't use Flash, so that one is definitely off of the list.

Flash 8 - Simple (for Sum) Button Programming

Jan 21, 2010

So I am trying to get better at putting all my code within one action layer and there is a bit of button code that seems to be confusing me.

Whenever I program a button I use the following code:
PHP Code:
on (press){
} on (release, releaseOutside ) {
}

Now I know programming the on(press) command is done like this:
PHP Code:
btnName.onPress = function() {
}

However I am having a hard time with the on (release, releaseOutside ) code. The only way I have been able to do it is like this:
PHP Code:
btnName.onRelease = function() {
} btnName.onReleaseOutside= function() {
}

My question is, is there any way to combine the two onRelease commands?

Actionscript :: Programming Tests For Flash Developers?

Feb 19, 2010

What programming tests do company's give Flash developers?

I would like to level the playing field for developers and recruiters.

I've heard companies give debugging tests with broken documents you have to fix. Flash developers could include Flash IDE users and actionscript programmers.

Everyone would like to know what to expect and understand some of the blind spots we face. A rundown on "what to be prepared for" may be a right answer. Best anecdote or inside scoop on major companies is good too (don't have to use real names, it's up to you). Perhaps you have an opinion of what is fair or reasonable, I'd like to know.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Math And Programming In Flash - Resources?

Jan 2, 2008

I was just wondering if there are any good books/resources out there that helped someone out that is pretty terrible when it comes to Math when programming in actionscript, or I guess programming in general. I guess I'm after some sort of resource where it had basic problems which would involve a bit of math, then went through the problem in a detailed way solving the problem but at the same time explained what was going on so I would learn the math and also solve the problem using code.

I don't want to just be told how to do it with a bunch of code I don't understand. Really hoping there is some awesome book out there called '101 guide to maths in programming' or something like this, (hopefully more geared towards flash/actioncsript)

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Programming 3D Like Pacman Game

Jul 20, 2011

I wish to program a Pacman game, only it's designed with perspective (3d-like). Since the vertical lines are diagonal, I would think the best way to approach this would be to draw the maze with simple line shapes, then restrict the movement of all objects to those lines (let's call it "thePath"). The movement of objects would be determined by the angle of each segment of thePath. This gets complicated once I need the computer-generated enemies to both move along thePath, and to determine the shortest path to the Pacman.
