ActionScript 3.0 :: Using Symbols In External Package?
Jun 27, 2010
I want to use symbols, that I created with Flash Authoring Tool and made available for ActionScript inside a package with my own classes. The package folder and the *.fla file are placed in the same source folder, anyway, the Symbol-Classes cannot be used out of these external Classes.
I have a package that extends my sound class that I want to also control the alpha of an existing symbol on my stage. I have read that this would be ideally done through some sort of event listener but I can't find a way to do it. Basically, my package generates a wavelength that I want to control the alpha of an existing library symbol. I have gotten examples to work the way I wish but can't seem to get my package to access the main .swf's library.
Here's the code:
package {import flash.events.SampleDataEvent; import flash.media.Sound; /** * A dynamically generated binaural beat carrier wave Sound with frequency easing. */
When I was building apps in as2 - my main method of project distribution was to create a bunch of different swfs, each representing, probably, a timeline, some code, and a set of graphical assets. Tho cumbersome, it meant that I could progressively load large chunks of the project as needed, at runtime.
Obviously - working in as3 - this changes a bit. My last project ended up being a bit too large, even when all assets had been optimized - mostly because I just embedded them in one swf and loaded it (kinda long load time). So - new project, wondering what solid methods are available for loading packages of external assets. I could, obviously, just load everything individually, but I would like class linkage and symbols already defined - rather than doing this manually for bitmaps.
I've read tons of tutorials and spent nearly 10 hours on Google looking for a solution, but am stumped. Here's what I've got:Title.flaLibrary contains the following (Symbol name and Linkage are identical)-Background-FooterBar-HeaderBar
I have a symbol called s1 in the library and I also created an instance of it on the stage on the first frame, its name is myS01Before I linked the document to a class (this was for youtube player) I was able to add event listeners, such as mousevents, onto this instance in my actions panel. But, after I linked my document to the external class in a package without a name, I cannot add any code into Actions panel, because it gives me all kinds of weird problems.Instead I am trying to use this symbol and add listeners to it in my external class file (the one linked to the document) with no luck.my external class file looks like:
Is it possible to package all external files, such as images and videos, into the final .swf or equivalent file? I want to keep the external files separate because it is easier to change them out while developing, but I don't want them to be external when delivering the project.
I am loading an external SWF containing uninstantiated MovieClip Symbols. I can get the SWF loaded, no problem. If I call:loader.contentLoaderInfo.applicationDomain.getDefinition( "TestClip" ) as ClassI get the class of a Library symbol called "TestClip", which I can then instantiate. Jawesome. The issue I'm having is that basically I want to have access to all of the Library symbols without needing to explicitly know their names. I was hoping to use:
...to get reflective access to the Library symbols, but the XML returned doesn't seem to include any references to them. Perhaps I'm calling it on the wrong object? I also don't want to have to explicitly create coded instances to gain access. This is for a tool for Flash artists, and it's important to avoid code, even simple code.
I'm using a OOP model I read about called 'model-view-controller' - so I've got three main classes at work and then a few more additional classes I felt were necessary. I'm building a kind of game.I'm at the stage now where most of the programming is done. The game essentially works. Now all I gotta do is add the visual stuff - the animation and graphics. I asked myself if to draw up all the graphics as separate external swf files which would be loaded into the game via my View class; or would a better method be just doing all the graphics and animation directly inside the fla file, storing all MovieClips and Buttons, etc. as symbols in the library (exported for ActionScript 3.0).
I'm curious to know if this is an issue of mere personal preference, or if there are pros and cons for each method of work - external swf files loading into Flash vs. storing the graphics as symbols in the fla. file library.
I used this tut to create a menu. [URL] And my question is; Can I make the slider to move after a movie clip symbols instead of button symbols? That way my menu would be animated.
I'm working through a book called Foundation Game Design with Flash, and I'm finding the Flash IDE confusing. I've been programming for several years, so working with AS3 directly is far easier than trying to understand symbols and nested symbols and the difference between graphics and movie clips and scoping issues and all that -- when tied into the IDE.
How many of you who are making games in AS3 also use the Flash IDE? Can anyone recommend a resource that is AS3 heavy and Flash IDE light? I don't care how much time I may or may not save by using things like the timeline, I just want to understand what I'm using.
The problem is that i need to count symbols in external .txt file djs/1/text.txt If this external text file contains more than 50 symbols then i need to echo some text in Dynamic flash text(Myflashtext.htmlText ="some text";) in my Flashmovie.
I'm attempting to use CS4 (PC/Vista, if that matters) to create a SWF file that will basically act as a "library" of commonly used symbols. This SWF would be loaded at runtime by other SWFs, which could then use the symbols within it, including all art and code assets.
This question stems from this question that I asked yesterday.I've followed Theo's advice and created a .swc with all the common classes and added the .swc as an external library to my module .swf. This all seems to have worked smoothly--I don't get TypeErrors and my classes are all present in the catalog.xml of the .swc file when I unzip it--but now I've encountered a new problem: when I try to link a symbol in the module .fla's library to a base class from my .swc rsl, it says the base class definition can't be found in the classpath. The whole reason I want to use rsls is so I can do this,If I now include the project's source path or the .swc in the normal (not external) library path, will that cancel the sharing benefits of the rsl, or will the compiler still know not to compile the shared classes into the module .swf?
I am having troubles passing an x and y argument into a package function that creates a projectile on stage at the tank.gun's x and y.I have attached a zip of the code I am working on.[code]
I'm running into this weird thing with ASDoc. It will only document one package function per package. For example.I have these two functions:
gs.util.printf gs.util.ftrace
In these files:
gs/util/printf.as gs/util/ftrace.as
The only function that get's documented in ASDocs is "printf". But I know it can do more than one. As an example, in the livedocs [URL] There are more than one functions documented.
C:demoABC.as: Error: A file found in a source-path must have the same package structure '', as the definition's package, 'demo'.Where is wrong above command?
This is with Flexbuilder 3.2, Eclipse 3.3.2.I am moving my development environment to a new machine. Actionscript classes that compiled in the old environment now get a compile error:
A file found in a source-path must have an externally visible definition. If a definition in the file is meant to be externally visible, please put the definition in a package.I do declare the package in these classes - I think failure to declare the package is the usual reason for this error. To add to the mystery, many classes in this project compile without errors.
My code is an external .as file. Google provides this code on their demo, which contains the this keyword:
[Code]...
Notice that I have 4 calls to console.log. The first 3 fire, but after the new GATracker statement, the 4th does not fire. I have a feeling that I'm overriding the entire package with the object created from new GATracker when I should be passing a different context. I believe the correct context I should pass is whatever this defaults to when not inside of a package/external file, I assume it references the main stage object.
I have classes witch resides in this package :com.network.interface_as. When I try to load one class from that package in another class in the same package like this:
Extremely simple timeline. Simply want to fade one image to another.Created a keyframeadded a bitmap, converted it to a symbol, set the alpha of 1st frame to 100%, 2nd frame to 0% & tweened.Image fades to white -perfect.Create a new keyframe, set the alpha to 100%, try to swap the symbol to another bitmap I'd converted to a symbol.Doesn't work.Inspector always says "instance of symbol 1". Cannot use any other symbols except for this one?
I know nothing about Flash Professional, but a friend has given me a .swf that supposedly contains some graphics that he wants imported into a Flex program - which I know a fair bit about.I have the .swf, but I have no idea what to put for "symbol". My friend doesn't seem to know what I'm talking about. How can I determine the symbol name to put in the 2nd parameter of the embed?[Embed(source='SomeSwf.swf', symbol='WhatGoesHere??')]Is there some way to browse the .swf, or some way to just import the whole thing and step through the symbols in actionscript?
I am trying to understnd some of the things about packages, I have expand a book exercise and I am now trying to workout how to reference a return value within this package.I have put together this package
What I am trying to do is use the 'return(spot1);' value where 'new smiley1(); is.My goal is to be able to create the library object name, (in this case smiley1 from a string variable and then display it on the stage with addChild. At this stage I am just trying to work out how to swap 'new smiley1' with the 'return' value.I will work on the addChild bit next.
I have a 3.5MB SWF that points to ~80 FLVs that range in size from 3MB to 10MB.
Is there a way I can package all of these files into one ~500MB file that can be run locally? My client wants sales people to take this app around with them on their laptops and not require the internet and I don't want them to have 100 files to mess with.
implementing AS3 localconnection, I sourced Adobe article that provides a send and recieve script and thought to use this get started.
[URL]
how to bring the .as package script into my sender.swf.I have a blank sender.swf and have created LocalConnectionSenderExample.as in same directory, how do import the package (classes) and also any other code?
In one of my Action Script 3 projects I need to create package names having numerics in them. For example I am writing one of the package name as com.projectname.activity101.view.* My query is whether it is okay to have numerics in the package name as in the above example. I am asking this query as once working with Flash 7 I had used the package name ending in number that gave me some issues. When I changed the package name to have only alphabets in it the issue was resolved.
