Actionscript 3 :: Package External Files Into Flash Deliverable?
Jan 22, 2010
Is it possible to package all external files, such as images and videos, into the final .swf or equivalent file? I want to keep the external files separate because it is easier to change them out while developing, but I don't want them to be external when delivering the project.
I"ve created some flash content that contains two .flv files that I'm interested in distributing. My question is- how do I "package" the files together so the .flv and .swf open together and I also need to ensure that no one else can open and edit them in Flash(ex- someone receives the files, has flash on their computer and can alter my original content).
I would like to create an application whereby users can load in a number of files (images), manipulate them (move them about, basically) and then save the results. Easypeasy.Now, my users typically aren't the most IT-literate people in the world (teachers, basically) and will struggle to understand that in order to use the results elsewhere, they will be required to move all the images and the data file (xml, probably) to whatever computer they need to use it on, re-install the app and then put the files in the appropriate directory to be loaded in.
So, to minimise how complicated this will be, I'd like to create a package (a .zip, perhaps - although I'd prefer a bespoke filetype) that contains the xml and the images, meaning that only one file needs to be moved, which can then be loaded in either via a load dialog, double-clicking it or even drag-drop onto the open app.
I have a photo gallery, with a thumbnail panel (a photo viewer page) that I made, coding the AS3 from the key frame. It just so happens that I saw some class files online that have some good stuff in the tutorial.I've never really worked with .as files and I am intimidated by them.Would it be easier to modify my photo gallery, with a thumbnail panel, from key frame to .as AS3 code or to go from .as to key frame code? I personally feel more comfortable with key frame AS3, but I am not scared to dabble.How can I practice adding a couple of class files to my key frame AS3 code- I'm using regular variables, but the interesting idea I saw uses private variables and public functions, and it imports some stuff?
I've have an asp.net app that uses flash for its navigation bar...the flash app uses two class files wrapped in packages that create the functionality of the whole navigation bar.When I run the swf file alone, the flash app works fine...but when I try it in the webserver it fails. Whats more, the flash app in the web server will work fine if I type the full URL to the swf file....it will not work however as an embeded object...and what I mean by that is that the flash app will show up embedded into the .net app but the additional functionality created by the other two class files fails!!!
I'm getting close to finishing the application I'm working on, and the person I'm working for is going to be distributing it via DVD. to package my flash file in some format so that when the user opens the file, it will open the swf in an internet browser?
The reason I need to do this is because I have some xml data in it that is keeping it from being fully functional unless opened in an internet browser. I'm not entirely sure why this occurs, because the file works fine in Flash Player on my computer, but not when moved to anyone elses. So, the workaround is to open it in an internet browser.
Anyway, I figure that in order to have the file open in an internet browser, it'd have to be packaged as an exe or some other similar file type, but we want it to be cross-platform.
Maybe there's an easier way, but I need to find out how to package my swf file so that it automatically opens in a browser.
Using flash professional CS5.5 - creating an Air for Android app. It appears you can't deploy any additional files, other than the swf file, In Air debug launcher (mobile) the additional files deploy.But as soon as you deploy it for real on an android machine it fails to install the extra files. (it's a small sqllite file).I have looked in the final APK file using zip and they are there in the assets folder.
I spent almost a week trying to figure out how to unload a currently loaded swf using its button and loading a new swf... I have three files, a main.fla, file1.fla and file2.fla. In my main.fla, I have a code which loads the other two files. If i will click the "unload" button in the file1.swf, I would like the main.fla to unload the file1.swf and load the other file, file2.swf. Here is the code to load the file1.swf:
My code is an external .as file. Google provides this code on their demo, which contains the this keyword:
[Code]...
Notice that I have 4 calls to console.log. The first 3 fire, but after the new GATracker statement, the 4th does not fire. I have a feeling that I'm overriding the entire package with the object created from new GATracker when I should be passing a different context. I believe the correct context I should pass is whatever this defaults to when not inside of a package/external file, I assume it references the main stage object.
I want to use symbols, that I created with Flash Authoring Tool and made available for ActionScript inside a package with my own classes.The package folder and the *.fla file are placed in the same source folder, anyway, the Symbol-Classes cannot be used out of these external Classes.
When I was building apps in as2 - my main method of project distribution was to create a bunch of different swfs, each representing, probably, a timeline, some code, and a set of graphical assets. Tho cumbersome, it meant that I could progressively load large chunks of the project as needed, at runtime.
Obviously - working in as3 - this changes a bit. My last project ended up being a bit too large, even when all assets had been optimized - mostly because I just embedded them in one swf and loaded it (kinda long load time). So - new project, wondering what solid methods are available for loading packages of external assets. I could, obviously, just load everything individually, but I would like class linkage and symbols already defined - rather than doing this manually for bitmaps.
I have a symbol called s1 in the library and I also created an instance of it on the stage on the first frame, its name is myS01Before I linked the document to a class (this was for youtube player) I was able to add event listeners, such as mousevents, onto this instance in my actions panel. But, after I linked my document to the external class in a package without a name, I cannot add any code into Actions panel, because it gives me all kinds of weird problems.Instead I am trying to use this symbol and add listeners to it in my external class file (the one linked to the document) with no luck.my external class file looks like:
I am having troubles passing an x and y argument into a package function that creates a projectile on stage at the tank.gun's x and y.I have attached a zip of the code I am working on.[code]
I'm running into this weird thing with ASDoc. It will only document one package function per package.For example.I have these two functions:
gs.util.printf gs.util.ftrace
In these files:
gs/util/printf.as gs/util/ftrace.as
The only function that get's documented in ASDocs is "printf". But I know it can do more than one. As an example, in the livedocs [URL] There are more than one functions documented.
I'm working on making a pretty chunky game engine for games I plan on making, but I was wondering if you make external AS files unopenable such as .lib files, so that if I give it to a friend that wants to use it, he/she cannot change my code. Is there anyway to make external AS files unopenable? Also, obfuscation isn't an option for this problem as it only stops the people who hack the finished product, not stopping people who have access to the actual files.
i have been working with a few basic flash presentation to learn the ropes. However, I am working on a flash file which, when compiled, pulls in flash content from elsewhere in the Parent folder. I have read through the FAQ and cannot find the answer, as there doesn't seem to be any Actionscript which handles the importing of these external files.
Are there other methods that I am unaware of? I need to edit these other files, however I find it more beneficial to first understand how the Flash file is compiled before editing.
I've been using flash functionality in order to fill in dynamic text variable with an external data. The script works fine, except that now runs very slow - around 30 seconds or so.
I was told recently by a Flash developer that I respect that using
include "functions_file.as";
is not the appropriate way to import a list of functions into an AS3, Flash CS5 document.We're not talking about objects and packages, just a list of functions.
loadText.load("textfile"); //creating the loadVarsText function loadText.onLoad = function() { dynamictextboxname.text = this.the=whatever text in notpad; };
how to load my external text in, i have it all set up. Its all being saved into the same folders etc. But still nothing.
Anyone know how to set up a Flash AS structure that doesn't feature any code in the actual compiler FLA and instead places all code in external .AS files? I believe this begins by setting up a Manager class and then setting that as your FLA's Document Class, yes? Everything else runs through the Manager?
I recently got the following code from one of your tutorials and am wondering why it is that when I try to change the .jpg images to .png images, the images no longer appear in the swf file. Does flash no allow .png files to be loaded.The reason that I need the files to be png is because the have to have a transparent backgroung.[code].....
I use flash CS3 on Mac OSX and I'm creating several AS2 projects with .as class files. Everything code-wise is working perfectly. The problem comes when I make a change to a particular class file, save the file, and the republish the fla. The changes are almost never reflected in the published swf. The only thing I've discovered to work around this problem and actually get my changes published is to publish to a different flash player version, and then republish back to the version I really want. Somehow that seems to actually get flash to load the most recent version.
It seems like this might be some sort of flash caching problem, but I have no idea how to tell it to always check for the newest version of the file.
I have 5 external flash files that i am trying to load randomly in from a seperate flash files (main.swf is trying to randomly load: Flash1.swf, flash2.swf, flash3.swf, flash4.swf, flash 5.swf)
this is what i have so far:
var myLoader:Loader = new Loader(); addChild(myLoader); var url:URLRequest = new URLRequest("flash1.swf"); myLoader.load(url);
it works in loading just one flash movie but im looking to have to randomly load from the five .swf's
I am fairly new to Flash 5, I have been using Swish for about 1.5 years. I want to advance to a new level though. I have asked this question at others boards, and haven't yet got a detailed enough answer for me to understand it and work it. Either that, or I am making just a tiny error. If anyone could explain in detail how to show a .txt file inside a flash OR give me a link to a detailed tutorial then that would be great.
I am a complete novice when it comes to flash and web design in general. I have purchased a flash template [URL] which I have been able to customise to my liking for a small production company. I am now completely stuck when it comes to integrating videos within the site.
I understand that I need to have an Xml playlist and some action script that references the videos to the player, but I have no clue on what to do.
I am looking to have a video begin as soon as the site loads and then have the buttons on the orange bar allow the user to navigate between other flv files. I would possibly be interested in including firther links on the video samples page.

I'm currently looking to use Flash to pull in two separate media files and to play them at the same time. From what I know about Flash, it's certainly possible to play two files, but is it possible to play files without embedding them in the Flash file?
