I have 4 objects that I all want to have their own velocities. I have a bunch of variables (each one has a different value):
PHP Code:
public var vx1:Number;public var vx2:Number;public var vx3:Number;public var vx4:Number;

Rather than having a function for each object to say:
PHP Code:
function1 { this.x = vx1}function2 { this.x = vx2}function3 { this.x = vx3}function4 { this.x = vx4}

I'd like to have a for loop to have my objects x position to += vx(1 through 4):
PHP Code:
for (var i:Number=0; i<5; i++) {
this.x += (vx+[i]);
}

So I tried the above with a combination of " " around different parts of (vx+[i]) but I realized that turning any of it into a string means 'this.x' cannot read it because x has to be a number not a string. So how can I make this.x = vx1 then vx2 and so on with a for loop?

I have a script where i need an objects X and Y Position to change when you enter a certain frame.

On layer 1 i have an input text field with the instance of "message_txt" that runs along all 5 frames in the timeline.

On layer 2 i have 5 frames each with its own actionscript on. The user navigates between frames with simple 'gotoAndStop(4)' etc... on each next or back button.[code]...

I have several objects, moveclip, graphics and shapes in several layers keys and want to change position, for example, a moveclip is in the position X: 218 Y:45 and so in other key layers,To change it to X: 240 Y: 50, I go to keyframe for keyframe touch the object and go to properties and change one by one is annoying.Is there any way to do this more quickly at one time in all key frames?

This is for a personal art project, however I have hit a potential (Actionscript) brick wall! I want the diameter of the 'balls' orbit to change dependant on the position of the mouse but keep the point of rotation exactly the middle of the stage at all times. I.e. if the mouse is hovering over the exact center (both X+Y) of the stage then the 'ball' should have a tiny diameter of rotation (but contstantly follows the orbit in clockwise direction) whilst if you move the mouse towards the edge of the stage then the diameter of the orbit of the ball will increase. I have a little bit of code that makes a nifty kaleidoscope effect, but I would like to take it one step further by having each star in the kaleidoscope gradually shift color as it expands outwards. Right now, I create randomly colored "star" movieclips by drawing 6 different triangles within the movieclip, and then add those individual "star" movieclips to a "stars" array.

What I'd like to do is use a "for...in" loop to grab the .color property of each of the "star" movieclips and change it slightly (using colorTransform?) at each ENTER_FRAME. How can I go in and access the star.color property (or is it star.transform.colorTransform?) of each of the movieclip objects that are now stored in my "stars" array?

Would it be:

i have a class that creates circles randomly placed at stage, i want then to move those circles and make them bounce off the stage, i know how to do that, the problem is that when i add a new shape into my stage, that shape, has an "x" value of 0, no matter where it appears, how can i check the real "x" value of that shape within the stage, so i can continue with the bouncing check...

I'm looking for ways to use movieclips that I've added on the stage in ActionScript. I can't just adress the movieclip by its name because apparently AS3 won't recognize a movieclip name if you haven't created it within the script.

The way I'm going about it now is to check the instance names of every child on the stage (with a for-loop from 0 to numChildren) and if the name starts with a certain text, I create a movieclip in ActionScript like so[code]...

ActionScript 3.0 :: CheckProgress Not Being Added To For Loop?

I'm using a for loop to add images that are in an XML list to the stage. In the loop I am adding each image onto the stage as well as adding individual text fields for each images' load percentage and an onComplete listener to add a tween once the image is fully loaded.

When I test it, the loop adds all the images to the stage but only adds the load progress to the last image in the XML list. The correct amount of text fields are being added to the stage, but the loading percentage is only going into the last iteration. I've traced the load progress function and they're all happening, but they're just not being added to ALL of the images.

Basically, how do I add the checkProgress percentage to ALL of the text fields using the for loop? I've managed to make the onComplete function work for all of the images by using an if statement in it. Would I also utilize an if statement in the ProgressEvent function? If so how exactly would I impliment it?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Objects Added To Sprite / MC Not Appearing

I've been working on building a game and encountered a strange problem this morning when instead of adding objects directly to the stage I needed to add them to a Sprite (I also tried this with a MovieClip) which was on the stage instead and they did not appear. And yes, before anyone says it, the MC/Sprite that I'm adding the objects to has definitely been added to the stage, I've made that mistake before and don't plan on making it again

Essentially I have been building the game's levels using various different objects (rectangles, circles etc) built in the Box2D physics engine and with attached sprites to represent them to the user. When creating each of these object I supply a DisplayObjectContainer in which the sprite representing the object should be placed. Up until now I have been simply been supplying my core game class as the DisplayObjectContainer, with no problems whatsoever - everything is displaying fine.

A new level design, however, will require me to apply a mask to the entire level (but not the GUI) so I decided to place all the level objects within a MovieClip or Sprite instead. I have created the new sprite as such:

levelObjects = new Sprite();levelObjects.x = levelObjects.y = 0; //Just to make surelevelObjects.width = GameProperties.stageWidth;levelObjects.height = GameProperties.stageHeight;levelObjects.visible = true; //Just to make sureaddChild(levelObjects)

And have been supplying this sprite to the level objects as a DisplayObjectContainer instead of the core game class. Everything is getting added to the stage as I can click on things and the sounds associated with the game objects are playing correctly, but nothing is actually visible! As I mentioned above I tried this using a MovieClip instead but got the same result.

Added Children But Objects Not Displaying In Flash

I'm adding a series of objects dynamically to my flash movie from xml but they won't appear when I run the movie. I have nearly identical code adding objects in a different swf that works just fine. I have tested this 8 ways from Sunday including ensuring that they were added to the container which is a child of the main MovieClip (tested the display list), that they were added to stage (had a listener for ADDED_TO_STAGE) and that their position was correct (displayed x,y values and compared them to mouseX & mouseY values). They are in the correct place in the display list. Still there are no objects. The class is linked correctly, I have movie clips in the library.[code]

I have the following problem: at a given time i have:

so now i have two or more foo objects on stage. my variable is for one foo, and i need to remove them all from the stage.

After adding an image to the stage, turning it into a Movie clip, and setting linkage in library to Export for Actionscript, I'm now using a timer to add a bunch of roses to the stage as a video plays.How can I get rid of all these clips once the video is over?Do I need to add all of them into an extra container and then just removeChild that container at the end? Or do I need to use something like getNumberOfChildren and then create a loop that removes them one by one?The clips (myRose) are fairly small and do not have any event listeners added to them.  I just use TweenMax to move them from top to bottom of the screen.

What I have is a game with a Level object, inside the Level is a Player object, and they don't have instance names given, what I'm trying to figure out is how to do is make it so that the player can change the x or y properties of the Level object.
 
To be more precise, I'm making it so that when the player moves in a certain direction, he either moves accross the stage, or he starts moving the Level object around the stage, it'd be in an Event kind of function, now I can easily make the Player move, but I don't know how to make the Level object move which the player is inside of.

If I have several items that move across the screen but the user can click any of them at any time, how do I record the current position of any of the items item in order to use that data to change the position of the item after the user clicks?

This is what I am doing: I have 11 images that slide accross the screen. The user can click any of them at any time. When he clicks one I am scaling the image so it looks like it is comming forward (z axis) and then the rest of the images are scaled down so it looks like they are going back on z axis. So what I am trying to do is get the current position of the image when the user clicks the image so that I can use that to correctly estimate the scaling and moving of the image to make it look like it scales from the center and not from the top left corner. So if have a variable that gets the current position of the image being clicked I'm thinking I can change its position using something like: x = currentposition + -45;

Flex :: Position Objects On Different Resolutions

A Flex project exported as a Projector, showing fullscreen. The project has a background and several dots which each represent a "Location". These locations are fetched from an XML file and have their position set in percentages. The location in pixels is calculated (this works as it should) by the width and height of the Application. The dots are placed correctly. The background is a JPG with a resolution of 1280*1024. At this moment, the background is set on a Canvas with backgroundSize = auto. This places the image in the center without stretching it. Stretching results in ugly, pixelated images and tears the proportions apart.

Problem When we view the project on 2 different resolutions (1 = 1280*1024; 2 = 1024*768), the dots are in the good position, the background image is sharp. But - because of the background having the same resolution as 1, the background isn't fully shown in resolution 2 (because it isn't stretched. A logic result. That's why I tried stretching the background. The results:
