I am trying to make a pacman game and was advised that collision detection for a game like this is much easier if you create it using a tile based methodology. I have the map created and the character moves fine around the grid. But once I added collision detection it seems to be a bit off and inconsistent. Im not entirely sure what the problem is with the collisions.

I wish to program a Pacman game, only it's designed with perspective (3d-like). Since the vertical lines are diagonal, I would think the best way to approach this would be to draw the maze with simple line shapes, then restrict the movement of all objects to those lines (let's call it "thePath"). The movement of objects would be determined by the angle of each segment of thePath. This gets complicated once I need the computer-generated enemies to both move along thePath, and to determine the shortest path to the Pacman.

Creating a pacman-style game using Flash (AS3). There are 3 players competing to eat the most dots. Right now when one player eats a dot, on that player's screen the dot goes away (but only for a second) and appears again in the screen. The other player playing, doesn't see that the dot went away and reappeared.Using hitTestObject, when a player touches a dot, the dot should no longer be seen on the stage. I'm using shared object to create this multi-player game environment. I'm new in using SharedObject and also AS3.

(think Pacman)....now, i've done my charater and maze..... but i've not started on d enemy.... i've read some tutes on random movement but it doesn't involve a maze like area....it juz cuts across d screen randomly...

I'm relatively new to creating games, however I've been a flash website developer (and designer) for over 7 years, and am used to OOP and AS2 Event-based programming. It was a bit tough to swallow the one-global function runs everything method but it all seems to be going fine now. The only problem I'm having right now is my math, and character movement and interaction.Also figuring out hitTests when the player punches, seeing as how you might have multiple hitTests be true, yet I want only those in the front row to receive damage.

What I would like it to do, is for the enemies to swarm, but not walk "through" each other.Because the player only has his fists to defend himself (stipulation of the game unfortunately), they need to start far away, but then come up to the player's range and then mosy about in front of the player, jabbing him from time to time. The only thing, is that currently they look like paper dolls, because they move through each other, and the movement isn't very good either. This will allow the player to punch away their health until theirs none left, starting the new wave. my first big problem is the enemy movement and interaction with each other in a simulated 3d environment.The second would be how to get the player to deal damage to them, how can you tell that he punched the guy in the front row, etc.

i have one movieclip and i have another movieclip>enemy...okay so when the first movieclip goes over the enemy, nothing happens until i roll out! all i want to do is the movieclip, when it hits the enemy, it goes to the enemy's second frame and that's it ! there are no syntax error in this script, just something i want to do that apparently doesn't work right.here is my code:

i.e. everytime the spaceship reaches a point a new one will be created randomly and the ship is flying to it (etc., etc.)Problem is that it doesn't really work because after the ship flies around for some time it suddenly stops to move. It's a matter of time. Sometimes the problem occurs after 5 seconds then again the spaceships flies around for 2 - 3 minutes and stops the movement immediately.Currently I have no clue where the problem is. I already checked the distance function but so far it seems to be okay

I am currently making a game, similar to StreetFighter,where enemies will come on from the side and you fight them. Now i have the character movement and attacks fully scripted, and have made an enemy, and i make it move towards the character using:

Now this works quite well and the enemy stops when it hits the character, but the problem is, it wont complete a full attack, instead it plays a few frames of the attack MC. Now i have every attack in a different MC (Frames 2-5) inside the Enemy MC. How can i make the enemy pause when it reaches the character, then choose an attack to use? From there i'll be on my way and can script the hittest and so forth.

I have a ball (instance name is "ball") and if I hit the enemy ball (instance name is "enemy") it'll dissappear, and add 100 points. At the same time, I want them to multiply and get faster.The enemy has a follower code:

im trying to make a third-person shooter game similiar to those "hide" when you press Down and "attack mode" when you stand Up, sort of like Time Crisis.I've done first person shooter games before.The hero character's move clip contains three clips, one of him in hiding, one in attack mode, and the last being hit. How do I script it such that the "hide" clip does not receive any commands from the enemy clip (which tells the hero clip to advance to "hit" clip and lose a health").

Im using Actionscript 3.0 and Adobe flash professional CS5 Im trying to animate a characters movement in a game im designing..Theres 8 differnt instances im going to use for the movement, I decided this upon studying NES zelda and finding his character only has 8 differnt instances for his general movement. See I want the graphics to be pixelated, just like the old games~ I like pixel games.

for example:Whenever I press the LEFT ARROW key I want two instances to switch back and forth between eachother to animate movement, and so I want it to keep doing that until movement is stopped~ as goes the same with the UP, DOWN, and RIGHT arrow keys.

im trying to create a tamagotchi game type game. For some reason i can not add any items to the stage.Currently i have imported 2 png images to the stage and coverted them to movie clips. One is called TamagotchiCharacter and the other is called Beer. I have also created a new 2 AS3.0 script class called TamagotchiGame and DraggableItem. The following is TamagotchiGame:

Simple animation..I want to rotate a circle with a cut in (looks like pacman).I want to rotate i 1 x clockwise and devide this animation in 4 parts. so if you think of a clock it goes, 9, 12, 3, 9, ...The rotation works perfect until i start adding the keyframes and adjusting the rotation, at some point it always goes wrong.. insted of going the right way (clockwise) the circle starts to move counter clockwise.. I have to add some extra keyframes to keep the rotation on track, this result in a not so smooth rotation.
 
ps: Just to make my self clear, it happents only once you start to manualy rotate and adjust pacman - this is a must since i have to have keyframes in certen points (when the packman is at 90 degree rotation) [URL]

I'm making a pacman game, and the game always crashes when I'm testing it in flash. It crashes when i get loser or winner. I can't press the X button or press again, because it crashes, so i have to do Ctrl-Alt-Delete. Do you know why its doing that?

Like in AS2 you can just hit a button, goto another frame, and that frame will loadXML in an executed function and then there you are.

Well AS3 is so different in approach, like some people even have an XML loader as an external class. I'm new at this an I'm kind of going in circles between tutorials trying to figure out what the best way to have a button trigger an XML loaded document revealing a thumbnail gallery etc.

Should I load my XML class in the beginning and then since I don't want it to load until MOUSE.EVENT put the function somewhere else to be loaded, and if so, what's smart?

I'm trying to get a smart clip to load a external jpg, I made the smartClip already and is loading two variables from a .txt external file but I can't get the jpg to load .

I created the SmartClip so if I want to duplicate or reused the MC with different text all I need to do is change the value or .txt name and it will load it info from another external file, I want to do something similar for the jpg so if I change the value it will load a different jpg and I want to be able to tell Flash what position and size I want the jpg's to have This is the position and size I want Flash to use for the jpg's, as it now I have a place keeper on it's position.

H: 136.0------------------------Y: -56.5

how to get those JPG's to resize and load in a fixed position? or as a second alternative I uploaded the file in my server ( ftp://65.49.66.147 ) The MC zipped with the jpg. The file is called SmartClip.zip
