ActionScript 3.0 :: Custom Mouse Button Reliability?

I'm having two problems with my custom cursor, which basically works. The script below is on the first frame, which is a preloader frame The first problem is that after I click on two of the buttons leading from the home frame to other frames, a few of the other buttons will disappear upon returning to the home frame, which doesn't happen otherwise, and doesn't happen for the many other functioning buttons that are set to work in the same way. When I don't use a custom cursor, all of the buttons work. My second problem is that I'd like the cursor outline to change color on rollover for all buttons without having to specify which ones, and so I tried using SimpleButton.prototype, but I obviously made a mistake, because it doesn't work. Based on trial and error, I marked in bold the lines that seem to be causing issues. Do you see the errors?

I'm just getting into AS3, can't believe how different it is! Anywho, I have a freelance project requiring AS3 with the use of the flash 9 alpha, and I'm on a Mac. They've built a Flex app using specific AS3 socket features not available in flash 8 (I'm told), and I'm trying to create the same app with a bit more custom interface/interactivity in flash alpha 9.So, my question is, how stable / reliable am I using the alpha flash 9 API in conjunction w/ the 9 player. Everything seems to be working smooth, but I haven't tested thouroughly on different browsers cross-platform. Am I to expect huge issues in some specific browser? Will this make the light of day if it appears to work great in the API and on a few different browsers?

I have a very simple piece of code but it has one very annoying bug. When I press the button a second time, the code doesn't work. The only way to get the code to work is by moving the mouse a tiny bit, or moving the mouse off the button and back on. make a button that can be clicked many times without moving the mouse?

How can i constrain the pointer to an area of lets say 800x600 ?

I would like to make a flash movie with a picture, where when the user holds down the mouse button, part of another picture will emerge in that general area (like a magnifying glass looking into another dimension).
Technically, my idea was to make a flash file with two images, and then code the mouse to be able to make the top picture transparent in a circle-like area around the cursor, while the mouse button is down.
But how to do that? I am using Flash CS4, but I don't really care if the solution is in AS2, or AS3, as long as it works

This is quite a complicated problem to explain.Basically I had some buttons with a on mouse out, and on mouse over effects.I wanted each button to load a different scene of the movie.For some reason the on mouse over and mouse out button effects work until I link them to load a scene in the movie.The only button I have linked to load a movie is the Drinks button. It loads the drinks scene, no problem, however the mouse over effects don't seem to work anymore.I have included the .fla file so if someone could maybe have a quick look at it, it is probably just a small bit of coding I have done wrong!

I'm not really replacing the mouse cursor exactly. Just placing a custom image of a pointer below it so it will follow the mouse cursor as it moves around the screen. I want this pointer image to move with the mouse and to rotate and point in the direction the mouse is traveling. Simple stuff. The problem is that the rotation of the pointer graphic is not smooth at all. It is jumpy and somewhat erratic particularly at slower mouse speeds. When the mouse is moving quickly the problem seems to go away.

I have a problem with flickering mouse custom cursor. I have a timeline which is my main clip and I want to show a pencil like cursor when I am over the timeline movie clip. I am using standard Mouse events, MOUSE_OVER and MOUE_OUT, MOUSE_MOVE. Also I use Mouse.hide()/show() functions to show and hide the mouse.Also the same principal or the pencil movie clip which I show and Hide.
On MOUSE_MOVE is set the coordinates of the pencil movieclip to be those on the Mouse cursor. How ever I get a flickering of the mouse and the pencil movieclip while above the timeline movieclip. So they change from one to another all the time without stopping i.e filckering.

I'm running into a problem where for my current project I need to use a large custom mouse for interaction throughout a website. The custom mouse (a movieclip) works fine until the user needs to select a option from a ComboBox.The custom mouse clicks the component fine but once the ComboBox expands with it's options the custom mouse appears behind the expanded list.Is there anything I can do to get this to work? I'd really rather not create a 'custom' comboBox for this project as the material was already prepared and set in stone. ps:: i found this information below, but it was for AS3 and I need AS2 and in any case didn't do anything for my movie when i tried it.

When I add a custom cursor it won't draw because when the mouse is down it's referencing the cursor and not the board. So drawing doesn't = true.
I can fix it by changing the eventlisteners to "stage" instead of "mBoard" but when I do that it will draw the the coordinates of where the mouse is on the cursor and the board.
So the Cursor could be x= 255 and y = 200 it will draw that coordinate but it will also draw the coordinate of where the mouse is over the cursor which could be x = 1 and y = 1. It will also draw that on the drawBoard.
Here are the examples in case I didn't make myself clear.

I've read some previous post by others, and have got the concept of how to make it happen just need to ask a few specific questions, one is the action script for changing the movie to the cursor and telling it how to move as the mouse cursor, next question is how do i get to act as the mouse pointer for the whole page, for instance I'm using frames I've got my buttons in the left frame, with a banner it the nested top and then the pages of course load in the main frame, how when creating the mouse cursor do i get it to work all over the page? I wasn't sure if using the normal method if it acts through out the whole site or just over a flash movie.

I have made custom mouse cursor (movie clip) everything works fine, default cursor is hidden, mc is following pointer, problem is- when flash is inactive custom cursor hangs in upper left corner of flash, I want to make it dissapear untill the moment you enter flash file. That would work like this: I am opening my web page, flash is loaded but custom cursor is hidden, I am moving my mouse into zone of flash -custom cursor appears on screen and follows mouse pointer.

i am currently working on a flash game using multiple scenes. I have made a quick video highlighting exactly what is happening. I get no error messages ut it still occurs.bassically the first button links to a second scene and the second button links to the back to the first scene.

I'm quite comfortable with hiding the mouse cursor and putting a movie clip in it's place - although the trouble starts when I try to tell it to load another movie when the mouse is clicked - then once realeased going back to the original movie clip !I have attached a FLA i've been working with - this is what i'm aiming for without the hotspot_mc - I would like the mouse to work the same across the whole page and be able to click on buttons etc, like a normal mouse click would !

I'm trying to convert my sniper game to as3 but coming up with the problem of evt.target hitting the scope crosshairs (the cursor) and not bubbling down to the stick man.[ode]I've come up with two solutions but they both negatively impact the accuracy and game play.
1. use objectHitTest, this works but makes it frustrating to hit small objects
2. make a small hole in the scope, this would probably work but could also cause problems

I've been searching around and can't find the solution to my problem. (firstly AS3.0 still confuses the hell out of me, having some real trouble getting my head around it).I've added a custom mouse cursor on my file, but with AS3.0 it already uses Mouse.Hide(); to hide the original mouse cursor and replace it with a symbol/mc.But i was already using both Mouse.Hide(); and Mouse.Show(); to hide the mouse at specific times. (so this new cursor has messed all that up).

Now: I use Flash Prof as Editor of my projects and I don't succeed in giving in meal to the editor the sdk so to have available the new class.

I have a Main class (which extends Sprite) that adds my Loader as a child. The Loader processes a continuous stream of images from a server (think MJPEG). I create a socket, add a ProgressEvent.SOCKET_DATA listener, and put the data into a local buffer. If I have a complete frame, then I call loadBytes() on it, and go back to waiting for the next chunk of data to arrive.
This works very well. However, if the mouse is moving when the image is being updated, then the control flickers slightly. But if no frames are being received, then there is no flickering. Do I need to double-buffer the image? If so, where do I do this? The Loader doesn't seem like the right place.

I have a menu for a website in flash where, an mc moves up and down and shoots...so that when the projectile MC hits a button, it clicks it.
1.) How do I make it so that the MC follows the mouse (like a custom cursor)..but is restricted to only going vertically
2.) how would you make it so that the mc can shoot anywhere....but when the fired MC hits a button, it acts as if it was clicked? My AS knowledge...is..very basic...so if you have any free time could you explain the codes?...so that I can learn from this...rather then just stealing your codes... but..if you want to just let me copy and paste...thats cool too

I have created a file where I have a custom mouse cursor using the following code:
Mouse.hide(); cursor_mc.startDrag(true); I have the mouse cursor in its own layer on the main timeline. In a layer below this one I have a movieclip symbol that when clicked I want to move to frame two of its own timeline and play.
The code I use for this is inside the movieclip symbol itself and it is:

The problem is the darn thing only works when the cursor symbol is in a layer below the movieclip on the main timeline and not in a layer above the movieclip on the main timeline. It wont even work when the custom cursor is in the same layer as the movieclip symbol.
Is there a work around to this or something else I could try. In actioscript 2.0 this never was a problem.
