ActionScript 3.0 :: Detect What Events Have Been Attached To A Movieclip?
Mar 23, 2009
Is there a way to detect what events have been attached to a movieclip?
I want to remove an event listener only if it has been added, and add it only if it hasn't been added yet.

I'm building a video chat in flash and everything works really well, except for the part where I'm trying to detect if the other user is sending a working video stream. There's a couple of reasons why the other user isn't sending video.
-The other user got no camera
-The other user got a camera, but the camera is currently being occupied by another application(Skype, Photo Booth, Google Talk, etc.)
-The other user got a camera but hasn't allowed the use of his/hers camera.
(Other unexpected problems I guess...)
So how do I detect if the stream I receive from the other user is a black stream(because of the reasons above) using the NetStream class? The closest thing I have came up with is by adding a timer that polls the currentFps() function from the stream I receive from the other user. But so far this seems pretty unreliable because I might get currentFps() == 0 and show an error because of this even though I actually got video from the stream in some cases. The reason for this is because I poll the API every 4 seconds for the currentFPS function and let's say at 00:00:04 I get "no video" according to the poll but at 00:00:05 the video kicks in, and therefor I need to wait until the next tick until the error message disappears
This is what my current poll looks like
function subscribingStatusPoll(e:TimerEvent):void {
if (subscribingStream.currentFPS == 0){
error.text = "No video found from the other user...
} else {
error.text = "";
}}
This is the only hack I that I can come up with to detect this, but this is unreliable and I actually would prefer a way to instantly detect if the stream I receive got a working video attached to it.

I'd been working on a side-scrolling shooter game in AS2 for a while and it was going great, but for whatever reason, it scrolls all choppy and the framerate is inconsistent on faster machines. I would have expected the opposite, but it is what is is, I guess. So I'm trying to finally learn AS3, and I found some tutorials that got me started towards remaking what I had, but now I'm stuck.I'm trying to make one of those rotating cannons that shoots projectiles towards the mouse cursor. I have the rotation part working, but I'm having trouble with attaching the projectiles to the stage with enterFrame actions on them.I feel like I'm pretty close to a solution, but I don't understand where to put the functions to move the clips to make them work properly. In AS2, I just put something like this on the cannon clip:
Code:
bullet = _root.attachMovie("bullet", "bullet"+_root.bullets, _root.getNextHighestDepth(), {_x:nozzledot.pointx, _y:nozzledot.pointy});
[code].....

I've been reading about using ExternalInterface to have Flash communicate with JavaScript. I need to detect and call some code in JavaScript when the user starts playing the video and when the video ends. The swfobject is nifty for embedding a player on the page, but I can't figure out how to add these event handlers to it.[code]...

The simplified code:
//triggered on MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN
private function beginDrag(e:MouseEvent):void {
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, drag);
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, endDrag);
stage.addEventListener(Event.DEACTIVATE, endDrag);
[Code] .....
I am using some click-and-drag techniques within my flash code, and I've noticed some loopholes with the MOUSE_UP event:
-It wont be triggered if a context menu is activated while the mouse is still held down.
-It wont be triggered if the window is deactivated (alt+tab or similar)
What other events can possibly interrupt the MOUSE_UP event and lead to unexpected behavior? Additionally is there a way to generically catch ContextMenuEvent.MENU_SELECT for all context menus without having to manually add/remove the listeners to each context menu?

i was wondering how to make a class that is capable of detecting mouse events outside its own stage.
e.g. i want to make a click-drag bar and if i click on the drag button and start to drag, but the mouse exits the drag bar area, it wont pick up mouse_up and wont finish dragging.
i know i could add a listener to global stage and check if the user is dragging, if so, i could stop the drag. But...what i want to do is a class that wouldnt require me any coding withing a parent class.

I got myself an assignment which requires me to add buffering and few other video related functions to a flash file that uses embedded video( on the timeline).
this swf is about 30-40Mb in size and it loads quite a while.
what i need to do is to detect when the video stops playing, runs out of buffer, but i dont know how do i listen to the netstream events if there is no netstream on embedded video.

I have created a FLV video player using the AS3 flash.media.Video object (not the FLV playback component) and I am trying to listen for meta events and Cue Points embedded in the FLV video but I am not receiving any when I trace the movie. The cue points are not being created dynamically, they are in the FLV video.
Video embed code:
// Initialize net stream
nc = new NetConnection();
nc.connect (null); // Not using a media server.
[Code]....
Is there anything I am missing have wrong to capture events from my net stream?

I've some very old Flash applications, which we don't want to rebuild to add a new feature. We simply need to detect when the user has become idle. So, if the Flash application receives no key or mouse events after 3 minutes, we want to track that time till the user interacts with the application again.
We've considered wrapping the applications in newer Flash applications to include the key/mouse event tracking; however, early research shows that some of our apps are so old that they use event systems or AVM's (ActionScript Virtual Machines) that are incompatible. Also, it seems that mouse events on the inner application don't bubble up to the outer application. (I think the direction of event processing is backwards in versions of Flash prior to 8)
Anyhow, the next idea on the table is to see if we can determine when the user stops interacting with the old Flash applications using JavaScript. Can anyone confirm whether or not it is possible to detect, using JavaScript only, when a swf in an HTML document loses focus or key and mouse events stop and start occurring on the swf?

I am trying to reference a movieclip within a movieclip that I am loading using "attachmovie". In the first frame of the root, I am attaching the movie. Then, from the attached movie I am calling a function that is also in the first frame of the root. In the function I am tring to set the property of a clip within the attached movie to visible using the following code:
_root.logIn.loginMessage._visible = true;
I have also tried _root["logIn"].loginMessage._visible = true; with no luck.
(logIn is the name of the clip I am attaching using attachMovie and loginMessage is the clip I am trying to reference in the attached movie)
This is how I'm loading it and I know that part is working: _root.attachMovie("login_mc","logIn",getNextHighes tDepth());

I have short script (onClipEvent (enterFrame) {some code here}) that works well on movieClip that is on Stage. I've added the script to 'actions - movie clip' -window). But my problem is that movieclip should be attached dynamically usign actionscript, so I cannot add the script to the clip, as I used to.

I posted this in Kirupa but unfortunately i did not receive any response from the community for 4 days now. I'm thinking perhaps somebody here can answer my long awaited explanation for this bug or phenomenon. I have a shape animation on the timeline from one keyframe to the next (3 keyframes). There is an orange movieclip under that mask with instance name "container". Now if i attempt to attach a movieclip to it at runtime, it will automatically get removed when it reaches the 2nd shape tween keyframe. All my code is in frame 1. Isn't that illogical? I know it works if i place it into a movieclip. I need an explanation to this (if its a bug) and a workaround other than repetitively attaching it from frame to frame.

I have a mc in the library, linkage is "del". Here is the code I use to attach to the movie
Code:
delbt.onPress = function () {
if (typeof(_root.del) == undefined) {
_root.attachMovie ("dele", "del", _root.getNextHighestDepth ());
_root['del']._x = 100;
_root['del']._y = 100;
[Code] .....
This works fine to a point. In the "del" mc I have a button to remove "del" mc if no longer required.
Code:
on (release) {
unloadMovie(_root.del)
}
I discovered that this only remove the content and not the mc that holds it "del". So I tried
Code:
on (release) {
_root.del.removeMovieClip ();
}
But this does nothing.

I'm working with a MovieClip ("mainMenuItem") that is linked to a Class ("GenericMenuItem.as") that uses attachMovie to add another movieclip ("Arrow") to mainMenuItem as follows:mcArrow = this.attachMovie(prefix+"Arrow", "_Arrow_symbol", this.getNextHighestDepth());I'm able to use on(release) within the Class definition to capture clicks on the mainMenuItem component, but haven't been able to find a way to detect a click on the "Arrow" library item that gets attached to that component.

myTextField.wordwrap = true;

I have an AS3 project (publishing to FP10) where I load a custom made window from the main movie. The custom made window is saved in the Library and has a close button (called exitinteraction_btn).
I manage to load the window from the main movie with the following:
var WinA = new windowa(); addChild(WinA); var myTween:Tween = new Tween(WinA, "x", Elastic.easeIn, 175, 175, 5, true); var myTween:Tween = new Tween(WinA, "y", Strong.easeIn, 175, 175, 5, true);
This is the code in my custom window (which I cannot manage to close and have it remove itself from the main movie when clicked):
exitinteraction_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, closeI);
function closeI(e:Event):void{ this.unloadAndStop();
}
I get the following error:
TypeError: Error #1006: unloadAndStop is not a function. at windowa/heyb()

I have a Flash Professionl AS3 project I am working on.
I have this in a main movie:
but1b.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fbut1b, false, 0, true);
function fbut1b(e:MouseEvent):void{
var mc:documentwindow_mc=new documentwindow_mc();
mc.x=450;
[Code].....
The issue I have is I need to do this 40 times.
Is there a way for me to use the same documentwindow_mc movie clip and pass a variable to change the "documents/print2flashdocument1a.swf", part?
How could I do this from the fbut1b function?
