View 2 RepliesI have tried this a dozen different ways and I really am at my wits end.
I have a presentation that works like a powerpoint. Everything is working as it should, except one part. I have a movie clip with an instance named slides, and I want to actively display which frame number you are in this move clip.
I have tried more than one why but I see no reason why this should not work:

this.frameText.text = "P�quina " + frameNum + " de 173";
It appears to work at first, but does not update when I navigate the slides. It constantly says 1. Before I just added a function to the back and next buttons to frameNum++ and frameNum--, but after I created the Menu I would prefer it to automatically detect what frame it is on.
I'm wondering how to dispaly either an image or a frame from an swf when the movie is not playing.
View 3 RepliesI feel like such an idiot but after trying endlessly I still haven't managed to come up with a way to display the current frame number of nested movie clip ("ecke1") (in a dynamically created text field).The problem really is that I don't know how to have flash keep updating the variable. Here's my latest attempt:

There are four frames; one frame is the title with a start button, which takes you to another frame, which has two input boxes for the two teams to write their names in. getFocus in used to store the names and display them in a dynamic text box in teh next frame.During the course of the game the two players take it in turns to hit a number of fish, with points adding up. There is a finish button at the top for when we want to finish the game, and from that point, when it goes to the 4th frame I would like a text box to display the name of the team that has the highest number of points.The points are displayed in a separate dynamic text box from the team name.

View 3 RepliesI am tryin' to emulate simple button functionality and methodology.To finish, i need to emulate 'hit' framelabel, where everything you put inside will be that frame will be the active zone of all button states.But i don't know how to read that framelabel, if button is not at that framelabel.Why button is not at that framelabel?, 'cause button is either at 'up', "over", "down" framelabels, 'hit' label is and actually never played framelabel, but i need to read it once so that i can to replicate its contents to all other framelabels.I'm aware i could just use a display object with an 'hit' instance name throughtout button's timeline.But what i am trying is to, it's to emulate 'simple button' methodology as i stated

- The movie clip contains 4 frames, each frame has a different image.
- I want to display one of these frames at random every time the game loads.
- What script would i need to target a random frame within this movieclip?
- Would this script be placed on the main timeline?
I am using a flash template with a _urls.txt file. I would like to change the code so I can display a target html page in an inline frame. My goal is to change the page content when a nav item is choosen without reloading the swf.Here is the original code in the template.

I have a project, that uses a set of buttons, between a predetermined set of frames, with the code for each, on the same frame. When it reaches the first frame with framescript, it lists one of the objects on stage as null. It seems like it is trying to run theframescript, before the frame finishes loading/changing. Is there a event to listen for when the frame is fully loaded?Also, I've noticed this does not happen, when the framescript starts on the first frame of the main timeline.

View 3 RepliesI am using swfLoader to load external flash movies in my flex/actionscript code. If the loaded swf was made for the newer flash player versions (I believe 9.0 or more) it loads as a flash.display.MovieClip object which has methods for play/pause and go to frame. However if the loaded swf was made for older flash player (I believe 6.0) then it loads as flash.display.av1movie which doesn't have methods for play/pause. Is there a way I can play / pause the av1movie from my flex code.
View 2 RepliesI have the Dynamic Text field that has an instance name on a mid-timeline frame in Flash CS4. I have a class that inherits from Sprite, and which is always added to the stage on instantiation. How can I get a reference to my Dynamic Text instance from this class?

Game Container extends MovieClip, and draws some pretty gfx. On Frame 8, in the Flash IDE, there is a Dynamic Text element instance named "scoreText". I want to access this from the GameContainer class. Possible?
I am making flash segments for one of my professors for online teaching and the way he has his server set up, whenever there are interactive segments, the segments are done on one frame. Right now I am trying to make an interactive segment where you click on input variables to an AND gate (in circuitry) to change the input from 0 and 1, and then based on these inputs it will show the output.
Basically I want to start out by having them all display ?'s, and then if you click on the ? it turns into a 1 and then clicking again goes to a 0 and 1 and 0 etc. How can I either change what these buttons look like or how can I change the buttons to go from the ? button to the 1 button while all staying on one frame? I am very very new to actionscript (I know how to AddEvent Listener, etc, I just need to know what to write for my function)
I'm building a calculator in AS 3.0. On frame 1, the user inputs data into the input text boxes and hit's the "calculate" button (also located on page 1).The calculations are displayed in the dynamic text fields on frame 1but aren't appearing on frames 2 and 3. Anyone know how to get the calcs to show up on frames other than where the calculation button is located?
View 7 RepliesI've got these Flash students I TA for a course, and they are doing drag and drop exercises and have come across some weirdness.(They are using a frames based design to represent different pages of activity, with a menu to goto each frame under user control.)At author time:
1. they set up drag and drop as3 for an object on a particular frame.
2. when startDrag is initiated, they moved the dragged object to the top of the display list, so it appears to float above all other objects as the user drags.
at runtime,a problem appears:the object seems to have been pulled out of the frame, and now floats in a display list above any frame that may be advanced to.What's going on here? It's like the object got pulled off the authortime stage and now is disconnected. Going back to the drag and drop frame shows the original object again, reinstanced, along with this copy that got pulled out.
I have a movie clip symbol that is place on my main time line.I want the movie clip to display frames for (x) seconds then go to the next frame.I have a chunk of code that works by itself but when placed into my flash site it is causing some strange problems. Such as navigating to a label (page) prior to the movie clip that has the wait function code, freezes the flash.I am wondering if I need _root or a this in there somewhere.
The reason I want to do this is so I don't have to add a bunch of frames to get the pause time I need.Is there a way to use the code below and not have it cause problems with the rest of my time line?Here is the wait function code

The only thing that has me puzzled is the preview field. Basically i have a background which is a movie clip, it basically transforms from the loader to the background (over 70 frames).
is there a way to have the preview field for the root movie display a child movie at a frame other than frame 1? At the moment it looks like this: [URL]
But i'm wanting it to look like this: [URL]
It would help or positioning other items if i had the background displayed how it will actually be?
can a button on a single frame be coded to both display a movie clip on its first click and, after a second click, hide the movie clip?

I'm halfway to accomplishing this.

The above code is on a blank keyframe. Changepage1 is the start of the animation and Changepage2 is the end of the animation.
Upon clicking the navigation button it plays the above scenes.
However it doesn't change scenes to scene "Home2".
When using Loader class to load display objects (bitmaps, SWFs...) from remote URLs, is there any way for them to be instantiated (referenced as we know, by Loader::content property) as some user specified valid subclass? For example if I had a class that extended a Bitmap, is there any way for the loaded object to be of this class?

The reason i ask is my current project has a rotating + enlarging effect which is largely dynamic so sometimes an object may clip the edge of the stage areathis looks messy but i dont want to increase the stage area to cover the largest possible area any object could enter because most of the time the objects are at the center and small so i would end up with a lot of white space
I have a list containing display objects from throughout the application (insertion order). I want to process the list either top-down (parent, child) or bottom up (child, parent). The only requirement is that either a parent is processed before any child or vice versa a child before its parent. What is a good approach? This question is not about sorting a list. It's about retrieving the depth of a particular display object.
Example
Display list:
A (root)
B1
C1
C2
D1
B2
......
My list:
list = [E1, F4, A, B2, B1, C3, ..., N9, N8]
Bottom-up:
N9, N8, F4, E1, C3, B2, B1, A
Top-down:
A, B2, B1, C3, E1, F4, N9, N8
Does not matter if N9 before N8 or N8 before N9. Important is that any N is before M (first run) or any M before its children N* (second run).
Is there any way to test if a display object has been added to the display list?
