I have a dynamic textfield called neighName on my Flash stage. I also have a movieclip that I call a region on my stage. When I mouseover the region, I want a word to display in a little popup *and* I want some text to display in my textfield. I have an external .as file for handling the region. I can make the code "see" my region, but I can't seem to make it see my textfield, although no errors are being thrown.

I am currently working with a flash template, the links contained within originally linked to other scenes within the original movie, I have removed the nav and its elements and created a new flash file as I want to use the navigation on a static website, so I want to link the nav buttons to static pages instead of internal pages. Is there a cross-browser solution available to give a flash banner an html link, without putting it into the flash itself? (i.e. the Flash has no clickable button in it). I tried giving the surrounding anchor tag a high z-index, but that did not work. I'm using the standard google swfobject to include the flash banner, but am not stuck on using that.

Those eight images fade out one at a time while at the same time a new image is fading in with a different external link. This works great the first time through. But, when the first image fades back in, when you click on it, it links to the link of the second image. If you reset your cookies, it fixes itself for the first round again, but how can I make this work all the time?
Is there a way to link to a class file from the timeline rather than using the Document Class? (I tried using the document class but it messed up because of the nested movie clips and stuff like that... so I need another way)

View 2 RepliesI made a simple website with a flash menu, that opens internal links in an iframe. However, I have a few other (not included in the menu) external links, which open in the same iframe. And after I click on one of them and it loads in the iframe, the buttons on the menu stop working. I'm beginning to think it has something to do with the internet explorer, since it works on some computers. But I'm not sure... not very good at this.
View 5 RepliesThis question stems from this question that I asked yesterday.I've followed Theo's advice and created a .swc with all the common classes and added the .swc as an external library to my module .swf. This all seems to have worked smoothly--I don't get TypeErrors and my classes are all present in the catalog.xml of the .swc file when I unzip it--but now I've encountered a new problem: when I try to link a symbol in the module .fla's library to a base class from my .swc rsl, it says the base class definition can't be found in the classpath. The whole reason I want to use rsls is so I can do this,If I now include the project's source path or the .swc in the normal (not external) library path, will that cancel the sharing benefits of the rsl, or will the compiler still know not to compile the shared classes into the module .swf?

I have a Main.fla which loads Main.as as its document class. In Main.as I have a public function named "Main" which runs a trace. I also have another .as file called Preloader.as, which also has a public function in it, this one named "Preloader" with simple trace in it. I just cannot figure out how to use Preloader() from the Preloader class in Main() from the Main class. Main.as loads up fine when the SWF loads and traces.

This is significant only because I can link to external pdf.zips no problem on the timeline but I can't seem to translate the code to the external file. i have a monster hitting my character, and when i didn't had a class in my char i had

I was chatting with my buddy about this, he is convinced you can do this and says he has done it, but I cannot get this to work.
I am wondering if it is even possible at all. I tried typing a var as a Class that is within the externally downloaded SWF and then making an instance but no can do.

So it seems you cannot make an instance of a class unless it is complied within the project SWF. Which if true is what I want it to do. I do not want people trying to make instances of my classes just from downloading the SWF file for what I am building here.

View 1 RepliesI use flash CS3 on Mac OSX and I'm creating several AS2 projects with .as class files. Everything code-wise is working perfectly. The problem comes when I make a change to a particular class file, save the file, and the republish the fla. The changes are almost never reflected in the published swf. The only thing I've discovered to work around this problem and actually get my changes published is to publish to a different flash player version, and then republish back to the version I really want. Somehow that seems to actually get flash to load the most recent version.
It seems like this might be some sort of flash caching problem, but I have no idea how to tell it to always check for the newest version of the file.

I have created a small application which takes it's information from an xml file and displayes it in a news ticker which is a flash Flash AS2 application. tell me the correct way to format the link tag in the xml if there is a standard when wanting to state a target for the link? In the Flash app I'm building, I have a "main" SWF that will load a variety of "child" SWFs.
All of the AS3 code for both the main SWF and child SWFs is contained in external .as class files.
In other words, each movie has it's own document class .as file.
There are also a number of .as class files for all of the common elements (e..g, UI buttons and controls).
So - for example - both my main SWF and all child SWFs use the "MyCommandButton" class; the code for this class is in MyCommandButton.as, which all SWFs reference (import).
Here's what I don't understand.
(Let's say that the code in MyCommandButton.as draws buttons that are red.)
First, I compile ALL of the child SWFs.
Next, I change MyCommandButton.as, so that the buttons it draws are blue, instead of red.
Then, I compile the main SWF.
When I run the app (main.swf), I would expect all of the buttons in the main SWF to be blue (since that's what MyCommandButton.as specified when main.swf was compiled), and all of the buttons in the child SWFs will be red (since that's what MyCommandButton.as specified when they were compiled.)
Instead, ALL of the buttons are blue, which means the change I made to MyCommandButton.as affected all of the child SWFs, even though I didn't recompile them.
I'm unable to load forces.swf (assume I can't edit it, as I don't have the source code) through an external swf, due to Stage reference in the base class how would I go about loading it (and any other possible SWF) without errors being thrown?
