Actionscript 2 :: Create A Global OnClick Event In Flash?

Feb 25, 2010

I have a Flash AS2 application that is made up of many SWF files. I need to create an OnClick event in a container SWF that will work for every SWF called. I am trying to avoid adding code to every SWF (over 100).

Currently I can get access to the click in the container for the first SWF but when the second SWF is called it seems to overwrite the container.

this._lockroot = true;
this.onMouseUp = function(){
//if not on login

[Code]....

How do I make where a click in the container will be triggered even if the SWF inside the container calls another SWF?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Custom Event Not Being Detected

Feb 21, 2012

I've been experimenting with writing my first custom event. So I have a MovieClip class in the library called "Curtains". It plays an animation and at the end of the animation I have the code:

ActionScript Code:
stop();
dispatchEvent(new Event("closed"));

Now I'm creating an instance of this Curtains MC in my class below. The custom event is not being detected. Did I put the event listener in the wrong place? What did I do wrong?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Duplicating MCs When Variable Reaches Certain Number

I'm trying to duplicate a movie clip when a variable reaches a certain number.. this is the code I used...
if (numBlts<300) {
_root.power = 1;
_root.p += 1;
duplicateMovieClip(_root.plus, "plus"+p, p);
}
The problem is that I just want to duplicate it once everytime numBlts gets below 300. After numBlts increases above 300 and then goes below 300 I want the clip to duplicate. All its doing now is duplicating infinite times...

ActionScript 3.0 :: Passing Variable / Mouse Event Through Event

I used to actuate the painter function by using a MouseEvent although I'm prefering to do it this way, but I'm having issues with an error "1120: Access of undefined property thisMouse." Error in Bold I've attempted to pass the Mouse Event to the painter function but had no luck. A simple solution (even potentially dangerous and WRONG) would be fine here, as this is part of University Coursework and I haven't been taught Classes etc. Its basically an introduction to scripting but im trying to do things slightly out of my depth

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dispatch And Listen For A Global Event?

Feb 24, 2011

I know there's been quite a few posts about events, but I've run into a problem that I haven't really encountered before, and I've kind of confused myself with all the talk of "bubbles" and "capture" and various complexities of creating custom events, etc...Anyway, I'm trying to figure out how to dispatch a global broadcast style of event.1) If I have a custom class that resides in the Display List (the DispatcherClass), how do I set up this class to broadcast a "global" event?Actionscript Code:1b) If I have another custom class that also resides in the Display List (but in a completely unrelated heirarchy), how do I get this ListenerClass to "hear" the event WITHOUT explicitly referencing the instance of the DispatcherClass like so:

Actionscript Code:DispatcherClassInstance.addEventListener("DispatcherClassEvent", handler, false, 0, true);Is this even possible?2) What if the DispatcherClass DOES NOT reside in the DisplayList?Is it possible to dispatch a "global" style event since there is nothing to "bubble" up through?2b) How would I get a ListenerClass, maybe on the DisplayList, maybe not, to "hear" this event?

I tried to use an event listener, but the result is not good. If I open detail windows directly from the main window, I know how to add an event listener - and it works - but I don't know how to do it, if the detail window is opening from the menubar!

Flex :: Event Flows For Built-in Event And Custom Event

Aug 22, 2011

I hava a custom component and it contains a child icon. If I add a mouse-click event listener to both component(click-listener1) and icon(click-listener2), the event dispatched sequence is click-listener2, then click-listener1. I can understand it. But if I add a custom event to component (listener1), and mouse-click event to icon(listener2), when icon is clicked, the component will dispatch the custom event. In my test, the event dispatched sequence is listener1, then listener2. It doesn't match with event-bubbles rule.

In my opinion The custom event is dispatched in listener2, which triggers listener1. Why event flow sequence is not listener2, listener1?

In component.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Can Pass Touch Event To Class Defined 'global' Function

May 12, 2011

I have a class file defined in my package as MyGlobals.as.[code] (I have tried adding/removing "static" and "dynamic" to no effect.)I am trying to call a touch event from the main timeline in this way:myObject.addEventListener(TouchEvent.TOUCH_BEGIN, MyGlobals.myFunctionName);(I have tried removing the class name to no effect.)When I compile I get the error 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: TouchEvent. This error occurs on function definitions in the class file.What syntax/concept am I getting wrong? The functions were working fine when I was using constants in the timeline, but I need to be able to reuse these functions over and over again, so I wanted them to be able to take touch event variables so that I didn't have to write a different function for every touch event.I tried googling "error 1046" but I can't find anything useful.

Actionscript 3 :: Send Events Between Objects On Same Level (Global Event Manager)?

Sep 8, 2011

I came to the point where I need to communicate between 2 objects (let's say Tank and the Cannon). It is tile game, and when the Tank approach specific tile I need my Cannon to shot the Tank. When Tank gets that specific tile I want to dispatch some custom event and have listener in Cannon class body to make the shot happen. Other way I would have to check in ENTER_FRAME loop (inside Cannon body class) if the Tank touched tile that runs the Cannon shooting - but this is not elegant and efficient. The issue is complicated by the fact that the Cannon and Tank are added to the Engine (document class) and can't simply hear for each other, because they seat on the same level in display list.

Initially I could addEventListener to the Engine, but this way my document class would enlarge to the XXL size (all listeners functionality, all methods for game etc). What I would accomplish is to have event listener in every Cannon object (defined in body class) listening for Tank's dispatching the event. I saw some 'Centralized Event Manager' article in the net, but can't download full classes [url]...

ActionScript 3.0 :: Create A Global Variable From Inside Function?

Oct 11, 2011

I have a primary function that calls upon other functions, which call upon other functions, etc, each one creating different objects. I need to delete everything eventually and was thinking the easiest way to do this would be to have a global array to push() each object into. It would be easy to just put garbageArray.push(thisCreatedObject); into the for() loops of every function to grab all the objects so a deleteFunction() could just cycle through garbageArray to remove and null everything cleanly.

What I want to do:I could easily just create a global array to do this (code example 1), but I would prefer to be able to recreate this global array and delete it every time this primary function is called (code example 3) since it will be called upon a lot. It would be cleaner code to have it created from within the function as opposed to outside of it because I will have a lot of primary functions doing similar things that would require a global array like this.

I also know I could create one and simply pass it as an argument to every function (code example 2), but I would have to pass it to every single function. There are a lot of functions and a lot of calls to them, so this would require rewriting a lot of code and would be more work than it's worth. Making a global array outside of the function would be easier than doing this if it came down to it.

ActionScript Code:
//example 1 of global array. No passing as argument from
//primary to secondary functions. Multiple global arrays
//required for multiple primary functions in the future.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Create A Series Of Scripts That Will Create Some Custom Event Listeners?

Nov 14, 2009

I'm trying to create a series of scripts that will create some custom event listeners.

I have three movie clips on my stage. One is a movieclip who's sole function is to hold array's and the event listeners. A second which moves around the screen. And a third that is motionless.

The problem is that the argument I want to test (which activates the custom event) is held within a string.

What I want to know is, how do you test to see if the string argument is true?

Is it something similar to this:

var myCode:String="1<0";if(myCode){
trace('one is smaller than 0'); //Strangely apparently one IS smaller than 0!!!
}

I think I'm going about this in the wrong manner, however this is the only way I can think of this working... (since I need to be able to dynamically create these events)

ActionScript 2.0 :: Eating A Global Listener On The Class And Receive Dispatched Event For Any Instance Of The Class?

May 11, 2006

I've done a class to be able to listen to the event for a CLASS not on an instance.

Code:
class net.webbymx.events.XClassEventListener {[code]....

why did I do this.It cames with my rugby game.I have player in two teams. When a player throw the ball I want the other teammate to act like "wait for ball" and the opponent like "seek for ball". Plus I'm lazy (and I don't want to register the listener for each instance of the player I'm creating). So this class is made to be able to handle as many instance of a class I want without adding a listener on each of them. I'm just creating a global listener on the class and then I will be able to receive dispatched event for any instance of this class .so in my team I can do

Code:
XClassListener.initialize(this);
this.addEventListener("throw", "net.webbymx.game.Player", "wait");

and in my opponent team I can do

Code:
XClassListener.initialize(this);
this.addEventListener("throw", "net.webbymx.game.Player", "seek");

At the moment weird things happen when I try and do the second onEnterFrame.I know I could put this all in the original onEnterFrame, but I don't wanna be wasting processor time doing an if statement every frame to work out if it's time to swoosh out the movieclip. Or should I not worry because that's negligible cpu time?

Flash :: Keeping The Number Of Objects And Event-listeners On Stage As Low As Possible

May 23, 2010

I am creating a site with lots of big scrollable text-boxes in it. Each text-box object contained some text, and two buttons to scroll up/down with. The scroll buttons each had an event listener so the text moved when you clicked them.

These text-boxes were stacked on-top of each other with all except one having an alpha of 0. If I wanted to change which text-box is active I move it to the front and call a small TweenLite animation.

To the left (outside of the text-box objects) I have an object similar to a menu. It also has about 12 or so event-listeners (one for every button).

This turns out cause A LOT of lag an it's very troublesome for my laptop to run it. reduce the number of event-listeners on the stage and also the amount of text-boxes.

What I was thinking was to add the text-boxes using AS so I only have 1 on the stage at a time but I couldn't figure out how to do it. I also thought it might be better to just use 1 big event-listeners and from mouseX and mouseY decide which button the user is trying to push.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Use The ENTER_FRAME Event With A Number Of Dynamically Created Movieclips And It Is Not Working?

Nov 7, 2010

I am trying to use the ENTER_FRAME event with a number of dynamically created movieclips and it is not working.The swf features a series of five clock faces that the user will select by hitting the appropriate button. Each clock has five unique movieclips to that season including a second hand, a minute hand, a main character, a seasonal clock face and a back ground, again, each of these MovieClips are different on each of the five clocks. So I have a series of five listeners for each of the buttons:

spring_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startSpring, false, 0, true);
winter_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startWinter, false, 0, true);

then the associated functions to the mouse event looks like this.

function startSpring(){
var mBack:springback = new springback();
var mFace:springface = new springface();
var mChar:springchar = new springchar();
