Trying to load some variables into flash I've done it before and it's work fine for some reason it's not working with this project.I get undefined values.Here's the embed code:

I'm writing code that takes data from mysql that's processed by a PHP script. It's actually a bit bizarre, at least to me. Anyway, here's some basic AS3 code that's moving toward what I want to do:

For some reason, the statement "trace(evt.target.data);" produces a whole pile of garbled text before the actual stuff that it's supposed to show Because of problem #1, I've had to include a throwaway variable at the beginning, otherwise the first variable I try to pass into AS3 comes back as undefined. This causes errors when I run my flash movie in the IDE, but when I run it from the browser it doesn't seem to have any effect.But this is the strangest thing of all whenever I make any changes to the database (and subsequently try to load data from different variables), the new variables come back as undefined. For example, let's say that I add another entry to the database, and decide to load students 2, 3, and 4 instead of 1, 2, and 3. When I do that, any new data I've added comes back as undefined, even though when I view the PHP output in my browser, it looks just fine.
And now for the REALLY bizarre part: I'll copy that output, paste it into my PHP script as an echo statement, comment everything else out, and my flash movie runs fine. Even though the output from the PHP script is exactly the same, it gives me errors.
I'm using YQL to try and find band photos for a project I'm working on. If an image is found, it is returned in an XML response, and my flash code posts it. But if one is not found, I'm not quite sure how to tell flash not to do anything. Here's my code:

I'm trying to make use of a given value from an XML node into Flash as a variable,

basically extracting the value from the "category" tag. This is based on the XML Slideshow gallery tutorial on Kirupa. There doesn't seem t be anything wrong with my XML file as all the images load up as it should. The values of the category tag is either A, B, C or D. I traced (category[p]) and got the correct value tagged with the image in XML to show up in Output, but I can't seem to use that in an if statement like

I've got an xml file that contains some data (which will be created by an external file later on in the project) and i want to be able to check the data in that XML file against a variable stored in flash.
If the value in the XML is equal to or greater than the value in the variable i want to jump to a different frame. If the xml value is less that the variable value i want it to stop and tell the user a message. i've included my code below. I just cant get it to work. Regardless of if the value in the XML file is higer or lower than the variable in flash, it always continues to the final frame instead of stopping accordingly.

I'm trying to make a login function that receives the username and password as arguments, does all the proper URLRequest and URLLoader stuff inside it, and retrieves some values from the database. Then, it puts those values inside an object (a little associative array really) and returns them. I've put 'trace' sentences all over the function, and it seems to be working without a problem and is retrieving the right values from the database. However, when I try to assign the returned value with something like:

How can I know if the value held by myVar is default false, or someone has assigned false to it? Isn't there an undefined state? How can I achieve such a thing?
I have an empty SWF that's sole purpose is to call loadMovieNum and start the project. Each loaded movie has a few variables defined within them - unique to those loaded SWFs. Instead of declaring all the variables in each SWF can I declare all of them in one place, in the first frame of the empty loader it all starts from? I'm thinking I can then declare a variable which each loaded movie can increment as needed for me.

I want to insert input data from Flash into a database through a PHP file but although I seem to be able to create new records in the db through this script, no actual data (in this case the value of a variable called "nombre") is recorded. View 6 RepliesWhat I'm trying to do is, create a button in Flash, with a dynamic text box, where I name the first one "botao1", the second one "botao2" and so on.
I managed to get the text I wanted into the text box by using an external text file (notepad) with the following code:

I also managed to do the same in an ASP page using the following code:

My intention is to have an array with several variables, each one with a different name, all of them of the type 'Number'. This I can do.What I can't do is to access the variables using the array's index.
