ActionScript 3.0 :: LocalToGlobal Showing Wrong Values?

Feb 19, 2011

My problems keep piling up. I was trying to figure out where child objects X and Y positions are on stage and not locally. Therefore i use the "localToGlobal" function and I'm pretty sure i use it correctly? The thing is that some Y values are true but the X are just completely spaced out. I use a function to find all child objects on stage and this works great.

Code:
private function findGameElements():void
{
// Array that will store all elements on screen and their values
fixedElements = new Array();

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash LocalToGlobal And GlobalToLocal - Get Value In Global Coordinates

Oct 27, 2010

I have a small problem with usage localToGlobal and than back to local. I can get global coordinate of my nested mc in question alright. Than i check if this coordinate + value of my mc.width is more than my stage width. I get to this part with no problem. Than if value is bigger (so mc is not on the stage i mean if part is off the stage i change value so it is stage width - mc.width). So i get value in global coordinates that i need. But how do i apply this to my nested clip is my question? For reference here is my code:

IDE :: CS5 AutoFormat Bug Reporting

Is there a defined way to report bugs with the autoformat system to adobe (or do they even care may be a better question)? Also, is there a list anywhere of known bugs in CS5?In the last 24 hours I have come across several, and while some may be hyper specific (e.g. if you comment out a for each in loop and the comment is followed by a for in loop it will put semicolons where they dont belong and cause a syntax error), others are easy to do and hard to figure out (e.g. comments inside of for loops mess things up).

Actionscript 3 :: Convert Global Coordinates To Local Coordinates Of A UIComplenent In Flex Project?

Dec 19, 2011

I was trying to convert global coordinates to local coordinates of a UIComplenent in my flex project using below code using below code

var gp:Point = new Point(e.stageX,e.stageY); //global point
var lp:Point = uic.globalToLocal(gp); //local point

uic is UIComponent in which I have subclass of Sprite for drawing something I have set the sprite's mouseEnabled and mouseChildren to false to not interrupt the mouse event. above code is within uic's mousemove event where I was tracing the gp and lp gp was giving correct value and suprisingly lp was giving negetive values. when I move the move to the top left corner of uic i expect lp to be 0,0 but it is giving the -width of of uic. I broke my head for hours and ended up finding an alternate by using offsets. Infact my original code was much simpler like this which was same issue

var lp:Point = new Point(e.localX,e.localY);

I am not sure what exactly is causing this problem. the workaround had lot of issues and it creating a mess in my rest of the algorithms.Just now I found even more interesting thing (which is actually weird). for some reason I went and create a new lp2

var lp2:Point = new Point(e.localX,e.localY);

now surprisingly it was giving correct values as expected and I went back and changed the code as

var gp:Point = new Point(e.stageX,e.stageY); //global point
var lp:Point = uic.globalToLocal(gp); //local point
var lp2:Point = new Point(e.localX,e.localY);
var lp2:Point = uic.globalToLocal(gp);

now it is expected to have all the lp, lp2 and lp3 variables to be same but weiredly lp two is giving wrong value and lp2 and lp3 were giving correct. I am suspecting using the variable lp has something to do. I am not sure about that but above proves it so right now I am using lp2.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Converts 3d Coordinates To 2d Coordinates - Difference Between MoveTo And LineTo?

May 21, 2007

I was reading the 'Isometric Transformations' tutorial by Danko Kozar and I have a few questions. I understand what all the code does, but not how it does it. First of all, how does the following code work:

xFla = function (x, y, z) {

I understand that it converts 3d coordinates to 2d coordinates, but I don't understand how. What numbers whould be punched into x, y, and z to acquire certain desired effects?Also, what's the difference between moveTo and lineTo:

ActionScript 3.0 :: ProgressEvent Reporting Incorrect Properties?

When run locally and off of my own server everything looks as it should and I get accurate bytesLoaded and bytesTotal figures producing the correct load % displayed. However, when published to my client's server, the load status starts at 100% and doesn't ever change. The even stranger thing is that in Firefox it says 100% Loaded but in Safari it says Infinity% Loaded. Are there web server settings or differences I should consider here?

Flex - OLAP Web Visualization And Reporting Recommendations?

May 4, 2010

I am preparing an offer for a customer. They proide weekly data to different organizations. There is huge amount data suits OLAP that needed to be visualized with charts and pivot tables on web and custom reports will be built by non-it persons (an easy gui). They will enter a date range, location which data columns to be included and generate report and optionally export the data to Excel. They currently prepare reports with MS Excel with Pivot Tables and but they need a better online tool now to show data to their customers. Tables are huge and need of drill-down functionality. My current knowledge Spring, Flex, MySql, Linux. I have some knowledge of PostgreSQL and MSSQL and Windows. What is the easiest way of doing this project. Do you think that SSRP (haven't tried yet) and ASP.NET better suits for this kind of job. Actually I prefer open source solutions. Flex have OLAP Data Grid control which do aggregation on client side. JasperServer seems promising but it seems I need enterprise version (multiple organizations and ad hoc queries). What about Modrian + Flex + PostgreSQL solution?

Php :: Reporting True Game Scores In Flash?

Jan 26, 2011

Im making a flash game and just wondering, how can I protect the ingame scores from being hacked ? For the moment im using a random number, which is set on the server and sent to the client, then using a hashing function which will hash 'score+randNumber' (a bit more complex, but the same idea), then i send the resulting score and the hash to the server (obviously logging attempted cheats). This so far works, but it is still easy to hack the score by decompiling the flash and finding out what the hashing formula is. Is there any other way that the scores can be transmitted to the server with little or no possibility of hacking?

Actionscript 3 :: Error Reporting From Event Callback?

Aug 17, 2011

I have been experimenting with supplying better debugging information when an error happens in asynchronous code in AS3.

As an example of the poor error reporting be default, take the case where I force a null pointer in a Timer callback (github gist), I get the following stacktrace back on the console:

TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at Function/<anonymous>()[/[path-to-source-file]/TestClass.as:14]
at flash.utils::Timer/_timerDispatch()
at flash.utils::Timer/tick()

This tells me very little about how the timer callback actually links to my code.

The question is: How can I get information about what code created the callback?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loader Reporting Incorrect TotalFrames Of Content?

May 9, 2011

detecting the totalFrames of content loaded into a Loader?

I made a dummy animation just for testing (150 frames of text just tweening across the screen) to load. I load that in and when it's loaded I'm always told it's only 2 frames long.

e.g.:

package {
import flash.display.*;
import flash.events.*;
import flash.net.URLRequest;

[Code].....

I just wrote that by hand now as an example so there might be a typo here or there but you get the general idea. I'm using CS5, flash player 10, just testing the movie and every time it traces 2 total frames. how to tell how many frames the loaded content actually has?

This way I might catch errors that otherwise would go unnoticed.

ActionScript 3.0 :: LocalToGlobal : How Does It Work

Dec 14, 2010

I have a some objects of same class type prgramatically generated on the stage.Inside these objects which are generally at x=300 on the stage is the code:

Code:
this.x+=2.3;
trace(parent.localToGlobal(new Point(this.x,this.y)), ", ", this.x , " ", this.y);
A sample of the trace output is as follows..
(x=2.3, y=0) , 2.3 0

Now im expecting some values in there somewhere to indicate its absolute location on the stage, ie, x=300.This isnt happening.Whats the correct syntax i should be using.Bare in mind these object will be of any name on the stage and will be dynamically created so its not easy to just reference their mc names.

Flash :: Dynamic MC's Path With LocalToGlobal?

I really don't even know if i'm using it right, But I think my problem lies in the fact that I need the currMC path to travel up the display list tree and get the global stage X/Y position. I'm not too sure how to implement a dynamic path with the localToGlobal method.
