so i finally decided to jump to as3 from as2! (yes, it took me some time XD) I have a better understanding of as3 after reading tutorials, however i have a problem/doubt: I have 2 movieclips on my main timeline with the name of the instances: OBJ_1 and OBJ_2. both have animations. OBJ_1 has a stop on its 1st frame; OBJ_2 has an action in its last frame:

What I want is: when the "hero" touches an enemy, all enemies should be removed. The problem is that when the hero touches an enemy it only removes that enemy. This only happens when its inside of an "if" condition. I made another example using buttons and worked perfect. let me show you the examples: in this case I made a button to create some movie clips inside an array:

I have the same movie clip on hundreds of keyframes and I have to convert them to graphic symbols to animate, then back to movie clips for scripting, but they lose their instance names.

I have created some movieclips and will be using them as buttons. After applying event listeners to them, they do not correlate to their instance names. I have a switch case statement set up to catch when one of the movieclips are clicked on and this is caught, the method is invoked but none of the cases are satisfied as all the buttons have the instance name "instance58" for example....they are all numbered instances.

the second bit of code "mc_inst1.onRollOver..." works, but the first bit of code, which tries to loop through all movie clip instances, will not work.I think this is because myReference is a String. But can anyone suggest how else I should construct my reference to the instance name?

Flash :: Embed A SWF And Access It Without Giving Any Movie Clips Instance Names?

I have a folder full of SWF files. Each SWF is its own animation. I have several people submitting their animations for this project. I would like to embed all these SWF's into my project and use .play() .stop() and other movieclip related commands on them as a whole. By this I mean, the artist sends me the SWF, my AS3 script embeds it, then I can access it with say animation_1.stop(); without the artist ever having to enter a instance name, or export for ActionScript name.

I plan to create a shell script which will take all the swf's in a folder and create a AS3 file with all the embed statements. The instance name that will be given to each one by the shell script will be the file name. Is this possible to embed a SWF and access it without giving any movie clips instance names or exporting for Actionscript? UPDATE: @annonymously answer below helped a lot. Trying to set up a world of warcraft like hotkey setup for an RPG i'm making for a school project, where you drag spells from the spellbook onto the hotkeys. Understand all the concepts, however, instead of doing a ridiculous amount of if statements, I want to loop the functions. Unfortunately, I don't know how to refer to certain variable and instance names within loops. I shall show you what I have:

I want the drag function to be available for all spells. At the moment, I don't get any syntax errors, but nothing happens, so I presume I have referred to it incorrectly.

As most of you don't know, I've been creating an rpg game. And, after several tries of art making, etc, I have finally moved back into coding the game. And now, I'm stuck on the equipment system idea. At first, I thought I would just place a bunch of goToAndStop's for each movie clip to go to a frame that has that certain armor piece. This was my first idea for an equipment system. However, after doing some research, and realizing how much lines of code could be saved, I started looking into simply adding and removing movie clips from the character as my new equipment system idea. Now.... on to the problem.

Basic want/ overall achievement wanted: Create an equipment system, which will basically attach movie clips (items) onto characters, which themselves will already be attached movie clips on the stage.

Problem: What is the exact code to do this? And Is there a better way to do this for an equipment system (a less laggy or more efficient way perhaps that I'm not seeing; Check the code below to get a better idea of what I'm talking about)?

I have multiple movie clips on stage (all in separate layers, of course) as well as buttons on stage to play each movie clip. There are buttons inside each movie clip. The problem is that the buttons inside the top layered movie clip work, but the others in the movie clips below don't.

1. I would like to be able to delete one by one the new movie clips

2. I would like to move them all together.... First you press the word green and then click in the blue area.... A green cyrcle will appear..
