ActionScript 3.0 :: Textfield Created In The Flash CS4?
Feb 10, 2009Is it possible to have a textfield created in the Flash CS4 IDE that is associated with a sub-class of TextField? Or do I have to instantiate the TextField in code?

Flash :: Japanese Input Display Outside Of TextField Created Into ScrollPane
May 4, 2010I have created the MainMovieClip and Scrollbar as follow ....
my problem is that when I input japanese characters,the characters display at the top corner of the swf until I confirm the input. if I install FlashPlayer "flashplayer10_1_rc2_plugin_041910", then the japanese characters display in the textfield normally....why is that???
with flash player 10.0, I can't input the japanese characters in the textfield.

Apr 21, 2011Im creating a game in Flash and I have a class that have some text fields that I need to populate in this case a highScore. I get this error.TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.Meaning that the object doesn´t exist , for some reason.

Flex :: TextField Instance Inside A Button Created In A Separate Layer In Flash Is Null
Mar 25, 2010I've created an button object in flash. The button contains 2 layers. One is the background image and on top of it is a textField. The textfield is dynamic. I use the button inside a movieclip and I export it in a SWC. The I'm trying to use it in flex.
I'm trying to do this:

myComponent.button01.theTextField.text = "Caption";
I get and instance of the button(myComponent.button01 is not null in Flex debugger), but the instance of the textField(myComponent.button01.theTextField) is null and I'm not able to change the text(but the default text appears onscreen). The code is compiled correctly in flex.
I exported the in swc the button control as well. So the button is not the default SimpleButton from Flash, but an derived class generated by flash(with the same name as the symbol defined in flash). It contains theTextField memeber, which is null.
Here is the button timeline(Layer 2 contains the textfield, and the textfield instance is named theTextField):

Mar 4, 2009The following for loop dynamically creates 4 instances of the same button. Each button is then populated with its own textfield.I have given the textfield(s) an instance name of option0, option1,etc, etc. I want to populate the text in each field with something different (Home, Contact, etc, etc). I am trying to call the textField by its created instance name "option0", but I get an error saying it's not recognized.

Jun 20, 2009I tried to search but 99% of the posts I saw were referring to manually created dynamic text boxes instead of.. algorythmically generated text for lack of better phrasing.
I'm trying to make an AS3 .swf that would display a small array of letters that have been created with TextField's, and not with dynamic text's being dragged onto the stage since there's going to be more than 100 of them. I've tried setting the textfield's .embedded to true, changing the fonts, making sure the text and backgrounds are different colors.. nothing.
In my .fla I have nothing for the document class under properties. In frame 1 there is one keyframe with three lines of code below and I've tried it with stop() and without. The class file is in the same folder and is MyArray.as This should be really easy but it's driving me insane.

Jun 10, 2010We have a for loop creating text fields from arrays.
We have four arrays.
First three arrays create dynamic textfields getting their data values from a xml file.
The last array creates empty input textfields where the user enters the data.
What I'm trying to do is to send the values of these textfields to a PHP file.
The problem here is that I'm not being able to get the updated data of dynamically created input fields,which is the data that the user(visitor) enters.
P.S. : I'm using flash CS4 with action script 2.

Aug 21, 2009I've been trying to achieve the same anti-aliasing (for readability) effect with as3 as if the textField was created manually, but I just keep running into a problem. When I try to add AA(txtfield.sharpness and thickness) to text I can't get any result apart from the text appearing in the same old for animation formation. The funny thing is this only happens when the font size is lower than 20px. I've uploaded an example aswell as a source file (manually created textfield on the left, textfield created with as3 on the right): [URL]. Is this somekind of font issue with Helvetica Neue, weird flash issue or is it me?

Mar 14, 2009I have only one question but phrased it 3 ways:
1) Is it better to pre=render things say in photoshop or have flash render them?
2) if I have a field of stars that drift along; is it better to create that Star Field in photoshop as a single picture (say a .png) or to create a star in my library and add it to a movie clip and then have that drift along?
Lets say I have a blur effect on my stars and have an equivalent on the photoshop.
3) I have heard (and experienced) adding effects like blur takes a fair amount of CPU and memory so was wondering if I created the effect in photoshop and then imported the 'blurred' object into my flash if I could cut down on system resources?
Flash :: Textfield Embedded Font Only Adjusts According To Textfield Height?
Jun 14, 2011i would just like to ask why is the case that when i use embedfonts = true on a textfield, the textfield's text only resizes according to the textfield's height but not the textfield's width. meaning if i make the textfield's height bigger, the text also gets bigger in terms of height, but not width, can't the embedded font maintain aspect ratio according to the textfield height?
I'm only wondering about this because this is not the case when embedfonts= false
ActionScript 3.0 :: Keyword "this" - Refer To The Current Instance Variable Being Created When Its The Only One Being Created?
Dec 11, 2009When an instance variable is constructed by a constructor method, why do you need to refer to the current instance variable being created when its the only one being created? I understand assigning an expression to it but why name it "this." when it is the only object that the constructor is building? Does it have some hing to do with being able to naming that object in the Local Variable? In other words am I creating a generic object that will be named in another class?

I have been to the 'get URL Function', but it says something about needing to link to a web page? But my problem is how can I link Flash Buttons to a web page, when my site is still being developed and not published? Do I have to publish first?

Jan 24, 2011I have a user with a brand new image including Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and the Adobe CS5. When creating a project in Flash CS5 and then trying to view it in Safari & Firefox the plug-in crashes which then brings down the browser with it.I went and installed Flash CS3 (as this is what he is used to using) and the problem still persists.
