Professional :: Communication Between Multiple Remote Flash Instances?

Jun 3, 2011

need to create a simple application that will essentially function as a remote slideshow broadcast service. One presenter will see the show (full screen) and will be able to proceed to the next slide, all other attendees will only see the show (no control) and will see the next slide when the presenter proceeds. I have a Flash Media Interactive Server which can be utilized.

The problem occurs when I create another one on the same page. I have put one on frame 1 and the other on frame 5 so that I can select a 'category' and the scrollbar movieclip changes to the relevant buttons.Ive duplicated the movie clips and changed the instances accordingly. I keep getting these errors in the Output panel when playing my swf;TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at as3_movieplayer_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()and when I click the like to the second category it comes up with this error;TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at as3_movieplayer_fla::scrollbox_1/thumbUp()Not really sure what im doing wrong - or even what these mean!Here is the code from my main actions layer;

So the same as adding a library item to the stage multiple times, each time with a different instance name, with code, but using an imported swf?

Flash :: Download Multiple Files From A Remote Location To A Users Hard Drive With FileReference?

Jul 30, 2010

Can I develop a Flash AS3 download swf that will let a user select a location on their hard drive to download files to and then start the download of multiple files (in the same way I can do with upload)? Or should I zip all the multiple files first and download zipped files to local disk. My users will want to download potentially hundreds of images from a server to local disk so I dont want them to have to click save for each one. Will AS3 let me pass an array of filenames and store the location that the user originally chooses? I ask because this sounds like it would have been not allowed for security reasons.

Flash :: Multiple Instances Of A Movie Clip?

Sep 14, 2011

I'm creating an XML custom card game and am at the point of building the deck and making them draggable so the user can drag and drop them on top of another card.how to build the deck and put multiple instances of the movie clip that resides in the library, I just cannot figure out a way to make each one of the cards draggable. What currently is happening is the card on top of the deck is the only one that will drag, even if I click on the card below it. I have researched setChildIndex(), but I don't think I am using it correctly.

Another issue I'm having is when the user clicks the click_btn (named for testing only) to build the deck it takes a while to build it, can that be sped up any? Then once the user clicks the first card to drag it there is another long wait?

Document Class (CardGame.as)
package library
{
import flash.display.*;[code].....

The xml file actually has 64 activity card entries and 41 event card entries, but I trimmed it down to make it easier.

Flash - Add/Tween/Remove - Multiple Instances Of The Same MC (Tweenlite)?

Nov 11, 2009

I'm trying to create a simple loop that adds a random number of stars, fades them out and removes them.The script I've come up with does everything but remove them, and perhaps I need a less on adding children to a stage.

Here's what I come up with

import flash.display.*;
import com.greensock.*;
import com.greensock.easing.*;

I need a way to make the movie clips unique so I can tell my oncomplete function to remove the property clip, if I don't do this the movie will eventually slow down and crash because of so many (invisible) movieclips.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash - Multiple Instances Generated In The For Loop?

Aug 2, 2010

In the library of the FLa I have a symbol that is exported for actionscript with a class name of 'aClip'.I am placing multiple instances of it on stage as follows:

Code:

for (var i:int = 0; i < 10; i++) {
var myClip:aClip = new aClip();
myClip.x = 0;
myClip.y = 50 + (50 * i);
}

Each myClip will move across the stage at 1 unit per frame. If I only had 1 instance on the stage I would implement as follows:

Code:

//make an enterFrame listener for the stage
this.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, moveClip);
//make a function for the listener[code]...

The problem I am having, is getting this to work for the multiple instances generated in the for loop.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Multiple Ground Instances Using Arrays

Feb 26, 2011

I'm working on a game engine with a friend of mine, we plan to make it open source so other people can use it too for their own games. We basically have everything done, but I really want to add multiple ground instance support. I would like to use an Array, to call upon all ground layers on the stage, and put it into one call name for my gravity function. So I wouldn't have to have various strings for each ground instance.

Code:
var groundArray:Array = [ground, ground2, ground3];
var groundtile:MovieClip = groundArray[1];
addChild(groundtile);
This is my gravity..
[Code] .....

What I have so far works perfect without arrays.. When I add my above array, I don't get any errors.. but I fall through the ground.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Multiple Scenes With Multiple Instances Of The Same Slide Show

Sep 8, 2009

Ok so here is my XML slideshow Actionscript:

ActionScript Code:
stop();
var xmlRequest:URLRequest= new URLRequest("graphicImages.xml");
var xmlLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(xmlRequest);

[Code]....

So I figured that the coding of separate scenes would work independently of one another, but I guess I was dead wrong, because when I apply this to a different scene and change the XML path for a different set of images, I get all sorts of conflict errors when I test the entire movie. I have my flash film set up so that each link send the user to a different scene, which plays a unique intro for each, and then the slideshow appears on screen and the viewer can navigate the images.

Is there a work around for this? Or am I going to have to break my flash movie into separate movies? Or should I just add a suffix to all my vars and functions so that they are unique for each scene?

Professional :: Preventing Remote Url File Reads In Flash?

Oct 29, 2010

We have a Flash application provided by a vendor. It reads its parameters from an xml file on our web server's file system. However, it can also be spoofed to read its parameters from an xml file sitting on another domain's web server. At first we thought crossdomain.xml might be able to fix this, but we've researched it and understand the purpose of crossdomain.xml. It won't solve this issue.Are there any ways of enforcing that a Flash application reads its input file only from the same server where the Flash application was served? Or is the recommendation just to initialize variables within the Flash app, not relying on an external file.

Professional :: Remote Debug A Flash File Running Inside An Application?

Jan 14, 2010

I'm an application developer, and my standard usage of Flash is as follows: I'm creating an executable application, which contains a ShockwaveFlash object instance, which in turn is displaying a Flash Movie Clip - also created by myself. The executable application and the contained Flash clip are communicating via the ActionScript ExternalInterface (using XML strings) and the FSCommand.

I'd like to be able to debug the ActionScript code of the Flash file while I'm running/debugging my executable application. For that, I need to be able to start a remote debugging session from the Flash object running inside my executable. Problem is, I did not find any way of doing this.

When I publish the Flash SWF file with "permit debugging" checked, I'm able to start a remote debugging session when I'm displaying the file in a player or a browser (the "debugging" option is shown at the right-click menu of the Flash object), but I'm not able to do the same with the object inside my executable (the "debugging" option doesn't exist on the menu).

Environment Details: The executable application is using the ShockwaveFlash COM file to create the ShockwaveFlash object. The executable application is created using VB.NET, Visual Studio 2008, .NET 3.5. The Flash SWF file is created using Adobe Flash Professional CS4. I'm developing under Windows XP (SP3).

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Number Of Video - NetStream And NetConnection Instances Multiple Videos Would Require?

Dec 30, 2010

How many instances of Video, NetStream and NetConnection would be needed for multiple videos? Not sure that's the right question but essentially here's the objective:

Currently, I'm working on an interactive product tour, parts of which are to consist of short video clips, each covering a feature. While only one such clip will be playing at any given time, I'd like put them all at the application's fingertips as part of the initial preloading process before launching into it. The idea is to provide a seamless instant-play user experience without hitting the breaks before individual segments.

Flex :: Using One Remote Object And Multiple Destinations?

It seems to be working just fine except for the one or two fringe cases:It's bad design, but we use the same method name on two different destinations and they seem to conflict when they're called at the same time. Logging errors show a method assigned to one destination as being associated with another.

Performance :: Multiple Remote Objects - Best Practices

Oct 3, 2011

I have an application with about 20 models and controllers and am not using any particular framework. What is the best practice for using multiple remote objects in Flex performance-wise?

1) Method 1 - One per Component - Each component instantiates a RemoteObject for itself
2) Method 2 - Multiple in Application Root - Each controller is handled by a RemoteObject in the root
3) Method 3 - One in Application Root - Combine all controllers into one class and handle them with one RemoteObject

I'm guessing 3 will have the best performance but will be too messy to maintain and 1 would be the cleanest but would take a performance hit.

Flex :: Remote Object Multiple Parallel Calls?

Sep 7, 2010

I'm on Flash Builder 4.5 and I'm using remote object with amfphp and when I call two method (method1 and method2) at the same time the response of method2 always arrives after method1's response even though method2 is much more faster to return the result.re's the scenario:I set a remote object which refers to a remote php class "Newletter" which contains the sendNewsletter and getProgress methods.Here's the code:-sendNewsletter() reads the email archive and send the newsletter. After each email has sent it writes a log into the database.-getProgress() reads the log wrote by sendNewsletter, counts how many email have been sent, compares it with the total number of the email that have to be sent and return the progress percentageFrom the flex interface the users select a Newsletter to be sent and click on a "send" button which calls a function that calls the sendNewsletter() and then instantiate a loop of calls to getProgress (as you can see when getProgress returns something it calls the setProgress which updates a progress bar and calls getProgress again until the progress percentage reach 100%.

So right after I call sendNewsletter() I call getProgress() on the same remoteClass().sendNewsletter() can take several minutes to complete (in my tests for sending 4 email it takes about 4 seconds so I think that sending thousands of email will take much more!!) and the trouble I'm encountering here is that getProgress() result arrives only after sendNewsletter() concludes its execution while what I would like to achieve is:

Instead, it shows each instance's actionscript registration on the screen with a small circle. The instances are still there and show up when exported, but I can't see them while I'm editing the file. The static text and basic grapics are fine.
