View 2 RepliesI have a game design project that I have to animate characters for. The Bone tool in Flash seems like the perfect tool for the job!Here's my problem: I can draw things in Flash and rig them with the Bone tool and animate them fine. However, I'm much more comfortable with Illustrator. But whenever I try to bring in external artwork, I get lots of errors.Create (solid color, single object) body parts as layers in Illustrator. Import Illy file to stage in Flash. Drag bone tool across body. Body is highlighted but I can't connect the other objects. I realize the Armature is only above the body layer and all the other layers are on top. Drag Armature layer to top. Still no luck. The bone just doesn't care about the other objects.Should I make all the elements into MovieClips? That hasn't worked when I've tried it. Should I import differently? Should I make the entire character into a movieclip and then rig the instance on the stage?
I'll be exporting it to PNGs at the end, so I don't need it to be robust down the line.I get other errors with other importing methods too, but I can't recall them ("Can't connect...something" when using a PSD).
I'm getting the following error every time I use the bones tool:

Version is 10.0.2.
I have now tried to animate a human character made of movie clips using the bones tool 3 times from scratch and every time it has gone extremely buggy. I move an arm and other parts of the body randomly move to different positions. I fix one arm then I notice other parts of the body are all screwed up.
View 3 RepliesI just recently got the trial version of Flash CS4, and I want to know.. Is it possible to animate a joint with simple position scripting(just editing the x and y coordinates), while letting the bones tool take care of the rest of the animation, eg. joint rotations etc. Or does the bones tool only work in the document stage? (I would try.. but I find that I can barely make an onEnterFrame in AS3.. This jump from AS2 to 3 really is quite big.)

View 2 RepliesWhen I draw something, the line doesn't show at all - I get a box outlining the area that I created the drawing in, but I can't see anything in the box itself. I tried previewing (View>Preview mode), but that showed as a hairline and I wasn't able select it to DO anything to it

View 3 RepliesI have a Flex project that is the application master for my site. It loads a swf I built in Flash which has a runtime bones animation using a Loader. The runtime bones work if they are loaded without Flex.
Is there a way to make bones work if they are loaded by Flex?
Created a runtime bone animation (more complicated than the one included in this example).When I loaded the swf using the Loader class in master application, the runtime animation stopped working.I included my source files for the bones, and another fla that only calls the Document class Main.as.Try running bonesRuntime.html, and the runtime bones work; call bonesSwfLoader.html and only the authortime bones work.

View 6 RepliesI am working on a character that I will animate with bones. I painted the parts (left them as vector shapes), kept them all separate from each other on different layers and not touching. Added bones to each part. Flash made the armature layers each time. This is all inside a movie clip.I now want to copy and paste each part with bones/armature into a new movie clip so I can make mini animations, like a walk cycle, for example with out having to keep redoing all of my work. Somehow - I did this once.
I selected, copied, switched into the empty movieclip pasted it and there is was - armature layer, bones with object. All there. Moves fine When I tried to do it with the next part on a new layer, it just copied the vector shape with no bones. It is making me crazy. How do I copy and paste or duplicate an armature? I did it once, so I can be done...I included screen shots of the parts and the new movie clip - the body went with the bones (automatically made an armature layer when pasting) the leg did not.Attachments:creen shot 2010-01-01 at 2.51.20 PM.png (38.1 K)
I've been trying to figure out how to add a bone in the middle of an armature. Currently I have a bone from the neck to the shoulder, but would like to add an bone in between the neck and shoulder. Does anyone know how to insert the bone without having to reconstruct the entire branch?

All the frame #'s attributed to the hand symbol revert back to frame 1.Meaning I have to redo every hand pose again and again and again. More importantly when the animation is approved and I send it off, when the client opens it the animation is incomplete.

I've tried various ways but cannot get the hang of it and I'm usually stuck with unable to add a limb or something other, below is a simple representation of my stickman. I want all joints on the body to be movable, including both feet and the head. I just don't know where to start. My best so far was attempting to start at the hips and move up to the neck and then the head second but that didn't work out.
View 2 Replies[URL] I just watched a tutorial where they apply bnes to deform a "bitmap" image. Their image didn't distort like my image. Why is this happening. I imported an image then I "selected "break apart" and then I added bones to it. When I move the bones it makes the image distort, but in this tutorial here the image doesn't distort. What is wrong?

View 2 Repliesi cant get the precise cursor to work on the pencil tool. I prefer to use the pencil tool when drawing things. I usually use the brush tool for painting in the lines , or sketching something out. I did went to preferences, but even so, the pencil still doesnt turn into a precise cursor.How do i turn the pencil tool into a precise cursor?

This code works properly in IE7 but in Firefox I have discovered that the images are loaded after than the swf. This swf file needs some parameters to work with the images, but if the images are not loaded previously then the swf does not work properly. In firefox, a page refresh is needed if the images are not yet loaded in the cache.
I have resolved the problem partially preloading the images in the previous page link using: <img src="imagebig.jpg" style="display:none;" alt="" width="781" height="1051"/> With this solution, the images are loaded prior to the swf loading.
I found that .fla files do not save in Flash CS4 when the Deco tool or Spray Brush tool is selected. Is this a bug? Or is there a workaround to this issue.

This is a very very basic question.I am able to colour and otherwise manipulate elementary vector objects, such as rectangles. Yes, I know how to use the colour panel and the fil land ink pot tool. However, sometimes I can colour a vector shape drawn with the pen tool and sometimes I cannot. It seems completely random.In detail: select keyframe on an empty layer.I make a triangle with the pen tool, and a small circle shows completion. I get a triangle.This is coloured not for the stroke but for the layer. It seems to exist in two densities - a layer coloured line for drawing, a thicker, same-coloured one after selection.However, neither the ink bottle nor the fill tool do anything. I can set the colour in advance, or after the event, through the colour panel or otherwise, nothing. A gradient fill does not even show the guide lines for the fill tool.

It doesn't erase anything, but I can't change it to another tool.I uninstalled Flash, preferences and all, and re-installed it, but the problem persists. Interesting is, my customized workspace is still there, even though I had all preferences and anything else that has the name "Flash" deleted.At the same time the computer opens both CD trays when booting up. Never did that before. So I re-installed the OS, but that didn't help either.
View 1 RepliesSo we're sitting here at the studio trying to figure out how to use the pen tool without a stroke. We do most of the work in Illustrator, then paste it in Flash. Unfortunately, some objects sometimes disappear while breaking the object down, which means that we have to do some actual touchup work in Flash.

View 1 Repliesfor my class i have to draw this fish. in one of the steps it says to draw fins with the pencil. then it says to use the paint bucket tool to color it in. however i cannot color it in. i used all the options too, close small, medium, & large gaps and i still can't color it in. does it have to connect to the start point? i simply attached it to the fish's body. i started over on the 1st part of this 3 time already, and my patience is wearing thin.

View 1 RepliesI have an issue with my Cintiq not drawing smoothly in Flash. I need to sketch incredibly fast and loose. Flash used to work just fine but now it suddenly began drawing really crummy. I posted some examples of flash as well as Photoshop, Sketchbook Pro, and ToonBoom Animate Pro which is another vector graphics tool. I thought the vector graphics may be the issue but that app seems to handle the drawing excellently (now if only it did the other things Flash can do). Here's some examples of how they're looking. It may be hard to tell in these already loose sketches but the performance drop is really a big difference in responsiveness between Flash vs the other apps here:[code]Does anyone know why my cintiq is causing flash to draw so poorly?
