Setting Time To Spend On Each Frame?
Jun 13, 2010
Trying to set time spent on each frame in an animation, its an ActionScript 3.0 project.Problems:1) Frame rate - Can this be disabled? For now I just have it at 120 to go as fast as possible, but since I'm specifying the time spent on each frame it would be nice to not have this at all.2) Actionscript - I tried putting in the following code snippets...In frame 1...
Code:
function PlayNextSlide() {
clearInterval(SlideDelay);
[code].....

I am All Programmer when it comes to anything including flash. I got into making games not to long ago and some people use frames to navigate from the main menu to the game screen and so on (which I have no idea how to do). and some people encapsulate the game inside of a class and call it from the document class and add and remove it when please

I created a "movie" that is basically just several sentances fading in and out. I'd like it to stop eventually, so it's not annoying. I know with animated gifs you can tell it to "play" 5 times (or however many times you want). Is there a way to do this in Flash? Or would it be something I set on my html page?

I'm in the middle of switching from Flex Builder 3 to Flash Builder 4, and one of the problems I have run into is that support for web services in 4 is substantially different. In both IDE's I am able to import a WSDL for my web service and it will generate the appropriate client classes for communicating with the service. The generated code in each is different.
In my Flex3 code I was able to access the endpointURI property of the mx.rpc.soap.AbstractWebService, but in the Flex4 code that is generated, the new class extends com.adobe.fiber.services.wrapper.WebServiceWrapper which does not have the endpointURI property.
My project has mulitple game servers and the player picks which server they want to play on. In the past if the player wanted server 1, I would set the endpoint URI to [URL], and like wise if they wanted server 2 I would set the endpoint to [URL]
What am I looking for to accomplish this in Flash Builder 4?

In a part of one of my ActionScripts, I want to set a date to an exact time, using GMT, so users in any time zone will be able to see the time until or time elapsed since that time in London.
In JavaScript, I would simply add "GMT" to the date that I am inputting, as follows:

I have problem with the setInterval function. I have a game application that sets a time limit of 3 minutes. From 3 minutes counting down by 1 second up to zero. The problem is, the counting of the timer is by 2 seconds and sometimes by 4 seconds. I tested the movie in my local computer and looks fine but when I upload it to a server and it is embeded in a website. And by the time the user clicks the link to play the game application and starts playing the problem about the timer occurs.

I created a frame by frame animation using the default elapsed time. There are 41 frames, and it is completed in 1.7 seconds. I would like the whole sequence to complete instead within 30 seconds. How can I change the timing? I am using Adobe Flash CS4 Professional (v. 10.0.2).

how to import a SWC file directly in ActionScript, without setting a library path to the file.To exemplify, I need something like this:
package
{
[Embed(source = 'Library.swc')] // This line won't work, of course...
import ClassInsideSWC;
[code]....
Besides, I don't want to (I can't, in fact) import the SWC by loading it with Loader class.
Edited Just to add more info about the problem, I'll showcase my scenario with more details...I have a class SubClass that wil be independent from the rest.It will extend a class SuperClass that is inside the SWC/SWF...This SWC/SWF have the whole framework.I can't compile every class inside a single SWF.Every part of my framework is a SWF apart and will be downloaded by Loader class on runtime.

In my Flash, when you push a button, a symbol goes from having an alpha of 0 to an alpha of 100. When this symbol appears, I want it to begin animating on its first frame. However, I'm not quite sure how to do this. D: gotoAndPlay doesn't seem to be doin' the trick.

I just spent 2 hours scouring the web for the answer. All I'm seeing is a whole lot of "how do you do it" and a lot of "do a google search for it'. I found a tutorial for CS4 that looked promising yet when I tried it in CS5 the damned Preview attribute (or whatever) just sits there looking at me. You're supposed to be able to click on it and choose a frame. I click and double click and nothing happens.

I've got a zoomable map within a frame, and of course I don't want it to be dragged out of view, right? So, how do I set the startDrag (L,T,R,B) parameters when it's a different size when it's enlarged (zoomed)?
if ( between Size>100 AND Size<200) {
startDrag(this, false,400,150,600,250);
} if ( between Size>200 AND Size<400) {
startDrag(this, false,500,250,500,150);

I have 20 frames on a timeline, and a mc in the frames. Frame 1 the mc is _alpha 0%, at frame 20 the _alpha is 100%. A tween between the frames fades up the mc alpha. How can I change the frame 20 _alpha setting from outside the swf file? Say I need the alpha to be 60% at frame 20 BUT I can't open up the FLA, can I adjust the Alpha setting (using Loadvars perhaps) without going back into the FLA? I won't have access to the FLA (when the file is online) and I want to be able to manipulate the frame 20 _alpha setting. I have tried doing this totally in actionscript and not using the timeline, but if I can't get that to work I will need to be able to adjust the alpha parameter without editing the FLA.

I'm unable to make it work :Flash exports the first frame in the SWF file as a PNG file, unless you mark a different keyframe for export by entering the #Static frame label.When publishing the fla, the png is build from the frame that is currently displayed in flash (if my timeline is at frame 3, frame 3 get exported)

Is it possible to set the frame count of a video manually in Flash BUilder 4? How is the frame length of a video determined in Flash Builder 4? I need to do this in order to trick video format converters into thinking that my video is actually x frames long instead of just 1 (my swf video is controlled completely through as3 code and thus resided on just the 1st frame). This way, the video format converters will be able to automatically (and correctly) convert my videos to another format (flv is desired). Another solution to this would be a converter that actually automatically converts based on video length rather than frame count, but I have already thoroughly searched for one and one doesn't seem to exist.

Is there a way where I can compile or build different frame rates into the various layers I create using an action script?? I.e. If there are say six layers running in a particular player, each layer should be running at a different frame rate, independent of each other
The problem am facing is am playing multiple media content in multiple layers (masked, so that it appears as if all the layers are playing in the same level) and each media content played in different layers needs to be played at a different frame rate to get a good visual effect!

As I haven't much experience in AS 3.0, I faced a probem that I haven't with AS 2.0. The problem is that when I call for first time gotoAndPlay function, it works, but when I do this for second time and for another frame, it doesn't. Because the explanation of what is my file, would be long and confusing, I attached the file.

I'm trying to make a clock that goes to a frame with a set amount of bars across the screen at 8 am. Then every 15 minutes it goes to another frame where one bar is gone and a certain action happens. It's just a joke clock to countdown the workday. But after it switches over the clock stops telling time. I have a dynamic text named Clock_text I tried putting this actionscript in the first frame:
ActionScript Code:
time=new Date(); // time object
var seconds = time.getSeconds()[code]....
and so on for the corresponding frames going to the 5 o clock celebration page. After it switches over to frame 3 the clock stops working.

if for example the player moves, does it move him every x seconds or every x frames?like, if the flash game runs on somebody with fast computer and other has slow computer, so his game runs slower, so it can result in the player moving slower than the guy with the fast computer. so ya they'll move in 2 different speeds. in c++ you gotta add sort of timer for this so it depends on time incase the player lags or something. sometimes you gotta have 2 buffers for the screen, so while something is displayed on screen it loads the other buffer in the background, and then shows the finished loading buffer and so on. this way there are no graphic bugs.

Im using a onInterval at a very high speed or you could say, with a very short delay. In IE the onInterval is not going by the time frame i set and is running extremely slowly. In all the other browsers the onInterval is working fine and runs the code as fast as i require. I found a post on another forum but that person had no luck with this issue as well.[URL] Is there a alternative way to call functions at a fraction of a second?

is it possible to play mc in a specific time frame from the outside??
i'm actually making a card matching game and i'm having problem flipping the 1st card back if the cards don't match... i made 2 animation in 1 mc...the first one is to see the behind of the card...and the other one is to turn it back if wrong...
so is there a way that i could play the mc of the first card to frame 30 when clicking the 2nd card and they don't match??

I have a flash file where the first frame contains two buttons, one of which takes the user to the second frame, and the other takes them to the third frame. At each of those frames, various text fields and variables can be manipulated via SimpleButtons. Both Frame 2 and Frame 3 have "back" buttons to take them back to Frame 1.
Currently when the user navigates back to Frame 1 for the second time (thus playing it for a third time), my second button appears to no longer exist, and I receive an error. Both buttons on Frame 1 were placed via the Flash IDE. Why is my button popping out of existence, when it did perfectly fine the previous two times? Below is my code for Frame 1. The "back" buttons simple remove event listeners and then call gotoAndStop(1)
var inited:Boolean;
var cache:SharedObject;
var libsans:Font = new libsansreg();
[code]....

I have a generative art app, and I'd like it to draw as many cycles as possible each frame without reducing the framerate. Is there a way to tell how much time is left until the screen updates/refreshes?I figure if I can approximate how many milliseconds each cycle takes, then I can run cycles until the amount of time left is less than the average or the peak cycle time, then let the screen refresh, then run another set of cycles.

I have a flash file that consists of a number of loops that play in series that allows me to change the duration of each part of the movie dependent on what is in the loop. Therefore loop 1 plays x number of times before moving on the loop 2 that plays y number of times and so on. I had worked out all my timings so that each loop last half a second. The number of times each loop plays is controlled by an if statement on the last frame of each loop. So far so good. In this main movie have another movie clip that runs independently of these loops and I noticed that although it was the same length as the main movie taking the loops into account, it would drift out of sync as the main movie progressed and looked as if it was running slow. However by tracing frame numbers of the two movies, I noticed that each time the main movie reaches on of the if statement frames although it appears to increment by one frame the other movie doesn't. By commenting out all the if statement frames both movie run in sync.
Therefore I conclude that a frame that controls the playhead position in this method does not actually last a full frame in duration, but jumps immediately to the new frame as soon as the command is encountered. Can I assume that this is constant and that frames used to move the playhead occupy no time in terms of the main timeline? Is there any documentation on this?
