Symbols Not Showing/invisible (layers NOT Hidden)?
Feb 8, 2009
I recently experienced a very strange bug and even afteruninstalling and reinstalling Flash the bug is still there. Myproblem is as follows: existing symbols on stage appear blank withthe correct bounding box. FIlls and lines appear correctly, but assoon as they are converted to a symbol they disappear. Componentslike the included drop down menu appear correctly.img1img2img3
Running CS4 I have a .fla that was compiling fine yesterday. Today I made some slight additions and it wouldn't compile, giving errors saying that various things were undefined I was starting to go nuts until finally I made all layers in the timeline visible and compiled again. Now it compiles fineJust in case it was something Flash itself I created a new file, hid some layers and compiled and it was fine. So it's not the application, just this particular file.
The animator said that he has created two symbols: one for the body, and another symbol inside the body symbol for the head. What I don't understand is how he translated the layers over into the head symbol. When I click on the head symbol, all of the layers disappear and I cannot edit an object individually within a layer.
I've created several movement animations for my character, i've also created several weapons which i've made into symbols. Is there a way to have my weapon stay in a relative position to my character(hand), even during animations?
I'm not even sure what you call it. When you go to some of the major web sites and big flash movie with option to shorten it is displayed. I've search the web for this and maybe i not calling it right.
What is the name of this flash movie called when you come to site and big flash movie comes up and pushes everything down? It has a option to reduce size by clicking button.
I have a flex application that uses BrowserManager for Deep Linking.
But whenever the # changes the new hash fragment gets appending to the bottom of the page. In IE it is inside a frame that says "Hidden frame for Browser History support." I didn't even know it worked that way. But anyways it is not supposed to be showing up visibly on the page but it is..
All my symbols disappeared. they're still there, and when i click into them to edit, i see everything, and also when i publish the movie i see everything. the layers are not invisible, and there are no masks. this happens to every symbol. i quit, closed, restarted, same thing. now it's happening with everything i open in flash.
whenever I try to make an animation I cannot because it only shows the layer of the timeline and it stretches all the way across the screen. Whenever I put in a keyframe it doesn't show up. How do I fix this? [URL]..
It's extremely problematic when you're trying to design something. It plays fine when tested, but you cant see anything that's converted to a graphic, button, or movie clip. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, rebooting, etc.
Also, I got an error message about the classic view not loading correctly, and everything's been goofy since. I still can't edit anything in classic view.
After restarting the program, rebooting, and even reinstalling multiple times, this problem still arises. All of the objects I've turned into movie clips, or buttons just disappear. They still work in the published movies, but are invisible in the main timeline. I don't understand the problem. I've started new files to make sure it isn't my movie that is corrupt, but the second they turn into symbols, they disappear. Is there a solution to this that i'm overlooking?
I am working on a simple spot-the-difference game, a pair of photos with hotspots the user taps on either photo to pick differences. It's a Flash CS5 project with a movie class, a class for the circles. It has worked fine with a single "level", but I am trying to add additional "levels" by adding a new keyframe in the timeline for each additional level. So I create a new keyframe and add the new pair of photos and reposition the symbols that are the circles to correspond with the new photos:
In my Movie Class, when level one is finished, I issue the AS: this.gotoAndStop(this.currentFrame+1); The images change to the frame 2 images, but the circles are in the same position they were in for frame 1. The keyframed positions are ignored. I'd rather visually position each layer's circles in on the stage for simplicity's sake.
My website is already done, however I found some sad property right after completion and publishing. When I zoom out (with ctrl+mousewheel or ctrl+-) my content which should be hidden is revealed which looks terrible and ruins whole effect (as you can see in the link below).

I did not use any mask, as I could not overcome the issue that I needed 2 masks actually - one for the whole opacity in the middle, and second for the rest with slight opacity and I believed flash CS 5 does not allow this. Therefore I used simple layer with low opacity and small cut window in front leaving my moving pictures in the back. Now is there any way I prevent either browser from zooming out or zooming in(javascript perhpas?) or Flash from showing off-document content?I think I've tried every combination of Flash publishing. Every time after zoom out the space between flash object and the rest of the html are enlarged and pictures off-screen are shown.
I'm making an interactive book and I would like to make my "Text"-layer invisible when I start the "Turn Page"-animation. It's either that, or I'm gonna have to put a code for EVERY 23 MoveClips with the Texts in them, since I'm using the same "Turn Page"-button.
I used this tut to create a menu. [URL] And my question is; Can I make the slider to move after a movie clip symbols instead of button symbols? That way my menu would be animated.
I'm working through a book called Foundation Game Design with Flash, and I'm finding the Flash IDE confusing. I've been programming for several years, so working with AS3 directly is far easier than trying to understand symbols and nested symbols and the difference between graphics and movie clips and scoping issues and all that -- when tied into the IDE.
How many of you who are making games in AS3 also use the Flash IDE? Can anyone recommend a resource that is AS3 heavy and Flash IDE light? I don't care how much time I may or may not save by using things like the timeline, I just want to understand what I'm using.
I'm attempting to use CS4 (PC/Vista, if that matters) to create a SWF file that will basically act as a "library" of commonly used symbols. This SWF would be loaded at runtime by other SWFs, which could then use the symbols within it, including all art and code assets.
Is it possible to create a invisible mc with in 2 other invisible mc's and if so would there be any complications. Im trying to do something similar and it gets to the second layer but then doesnt want to load the third inv-mc. Like loading an external swf to a container mc then in that same mc have another external load and then another.
the snow effect always acts like the top layer, ok what i mean is, i have 3 layers, (1)toplayer= a car, (2)middle= snow, (3)low= background.I want to make the snow to be seen behind the car...i hope you understand what i mean , whenever i put the code from the link above it acts as the top layer and appears in front of everything.
Is it possible to add layers, re-order layers, move movieclips from layer to layer or specify which layer a duplicate movieclip appears on at runtime with AS3?I am aware of the depth properties and the functions associated with that but it would be easier to have a concept of a layer because I am dealing with masks.I have a nasty feeling I'm gonna be told that layers don't really exist within an swf and that depths and setmask are all there is to work with.
I'm attempting to unravel a Flash template and there are two Flash movies, Main and Magazine, the second being embedded into the first. The Magazine Flash file contains a menu of links to various pages in the Magazine movie. There are 5 of these links - About, Services, Contact, etc.I've been trying to find the text elements so I can assign new colors, but the only thing that I can find is the first element. Tere is a scene called menutxt which has an area with text for each of the five links but they all have the text "About" in the buttons. I would have expected each button to contain the different link names.o I was assuming that this was a standard
I'm working on a project for a presentation that has hidden buttons. I want a way that the hidden buttons can be located, if someone else has to give the presentation. I've seen an example where if the user hits the tab key it would cycle through all buttons and outline them in red. I am new to flash and action script and have no idea how to do this.
I didnt see a place in preferences to keep edges hidden. I have some text that has a dotted line around it. I can hide it with hide edges, but as soon as I select them and let go, the edges come back. maybe their not edges since theyre dotted. maybe its flash telling me somethings not set up correctly? anyone?
I'm lost, at school we use CS3 and at home I have CS4. I cannot recall how to create a hidden button. From my previous work it appears that they come from the components, however I just can't see them there on CS4. Or have I got this completely wrong and do I have to create one from scratch.
I tried a search but it keeps saying I failed the No Spam when I didnt get a question - d'oh. Ok, this has probably been covered before, but a lot of research hasn't got me far, so I thought I'd post. I have a single page html site with several links that load up a homebrewed lightbox. The inline content is written out at the bottom of the page and the divs are set to hidden.
When a link is clicked, the light box loads and the correct <div> is set to visible. The flash plays, or is interacted with but when the user has finished, they click an html Close button and the div is hidden again. Obviously the swf is still loaded and running; it could be even mid animation. The more swfs loaded, the more memory that is taken up.
My development machine can handle the 600mb + used up by have a few FF windows open and a couple of copies of the site; but I imagine it will cause problems for users. So I've been looking into externalInterface to fire a command into the swf to close itself down when the close button is clicked, but I can't seem to find anything
I'm working on new presentation that has hidden buttons. In the previous presentation, when you hit the tab key it cycled through the hidden buttons by outlining them in red. I'm trying to recreate that feature, but am new to Flash and Action Script. I have many books and search the web often, but can not find an example of this or how it is done
What are some of the hidden features of MXML? What existing features are not well known but very useful?MXML being used in Flex Framework became quite popular language because Flash Player is something every PC has and Flash Builder and Flash Catalist are quite popular Adobe programs.specify one feature per answer, and read all answers before posting a dupliate. It's not always a great idea to use these hidden features; often times they are surprising and confusing to others reading your code.
