Actionscript 3 :: FlexUnit: Unit Test File Upload?
Mar 27, 2012
Can I use FlexUnit to unit test a File Upload and delete? Are those actions good examples of unit testing? I'm a little new to unit testing and trying to figure out what parts of my UI are suitable for unit tests.

In FlexUnit 1 it is possible to access the name of the currently-running test using the TestCase.getName() method because all tests subclass TestCase. In FlexUnit 4, however, there's no base class for tests; the tests are identified by annotations. So, how can I replicate the getName() functionality in FlexUnit 4?

Is there any way to usefully test an Uploadify file upload with Selenium? I'm using Capybara with Rails, but really, any solution with Selenium would be a starting place. I'm worried I may have to disable Uploadify for Selenium testing.

I'm using AsUnit for unit-testing my current AS3 project. My Main() is basically:
if ( UnitTest )
runUnitTests();
else
runMainProgram();
where I change UnitTest before building depending on whether I want to run the program or run the unit tests. Is there a way that makes it easier to switch between the two modes?
Optimally, I'd use F5 for building with UnitTest=false and another hotkey for building with UnitTest=false. What is the closest I can get with FlashDevelop?

my listener.onComplete = function(selectedFile:FileReference) is fired without any file in the upload dir. if the file is small and I wait a bit I can see the file (through FTP) coming up on the server, but most of the times the "onComplete" if fired without any file being saved.
can I add something to this php code to make sure the file is uploaded?

Is there any "mainstream" library used for this purpose? Commonly spread, well maintained, documented etc.I found these (using flash):
Uploadify - not many releases, latest 12/2010, no documentation (!)
SWFUpload - latest release 03/2010, documentation
fancyupload - looks buggy.
phpfileuploader - looks heavyweight, and looks commercial (?) I cannot read the licence (you can download it but are you allowed to use it forever without paying?) plupload New version of pure javascript (no flash) Valums' ajax upload claims to handle file size limit and progress bar, which is quite suspicious to me: these features require to guess the file size before the upload, which seems impossible in javascript (look also here). Or can it work?

In the FlexUnit wiki I've read about the very interesting SequenceRunner that was contributed by the Fluint folks. Now I am trying to run a test that is very similar to the example, however when executing the run() Method of the SequenceRunner instance, I get this exception:
Cannot add asynchronous functionality to methods defined by Test,Before or After that are not marked async

I've recently started practising test driven development - thus far I've been working on a library project, so I've organised my FlexUnit tests in a separate FlexBuilder 3 project, linking against my library's swc.Now I'm working on a web app and wondering how best to organise the tests for this. At the moment I've put them in a src/test package in the project I'm testing, with the test runner application at the same level as the default application. Is this the best way to do it, or should I have a separate test project and link in the source for the application I'm testing?

I am building an app using ActionScript3 with Flash Builder 4 as my IDE.
The IDE supports a unit testing framework called "FlexUnit".
I can build and run tests within the IDE, no problem.
After much pain and suffering I figured out how to build the unit tests as a swf from the command line. I can point a browser or flash player at the swf and the tests run.
But for an automated build system this is no good: I would like to build the tests, run them, and collect/analyze the results to tell which tests, if any, are failing.
I can imaging some hackery: hack FlexUnit base libraries to dump output to stderr instead of just to the IDE console. Hack some script together that points a browser at the swf, counts to 60, kills the browser and checks stderr.
But that's hideous.
I have to believe there's some way to build and run from the command line that works nicely with automated build systems.
Further complication: I am a relative noob with ActionScript (~1 month). My background is C++, makefiles, etc. All the stuff I had to do to get the tests even to build outside the ide (a build.xml file, ant) was complete greek to me, just cut n pasting from examples I could find.

I am using FlexUnit4 with FlashBuilder4. A lot of the classes that I'm unit testing make use of the Flash Logger.In the main app, we use TraceTarget so that the logging shows up in the trace window, which greatly aids in debugging:[code]I'd like to do the same thing for the unit test runner that FlashBuilder generates (FlexUnitApplication.mxml), but I'm not sure how to go about it. I could, of course, add TraceTarget to FlexUnit Application. mxml, but as the warning at the top of the file says,My question is: how do I get logging-to-trace to work with FlashBuilder and FlexUnit?

confirm that Flash Builder 4 STANDARD comes bundled with FlexUnit 4 just like Flash Builder 4 Premium trial does? My company is interested in buying a few copies just for unit testing an existing code base. Don't want to spend the extra money if not necessary and Adobe support was completely useless. Also, any other considerations you can think of regarding Flash Builder 4 Standard & FlexUnit 4?

Im working on my website which was from a template. Ive gotten pretty far and all of a sudden my FLA file isnt exporting to a SWF file. It doesnt let me test the movie either, it shows the progress bar then does nothing. Similar to this guys problem on another forum:It shows the file in the folder for a split second then disappears. I really dont know what to do and I dont want to continue working on the file if theres a problem.

I have a website that has a SWF embbeded on it with SWFObject. This SWF file has 1,5 MB. I would like to test if website (Lightppd) will be alive if 600 users per hour will try to open it. It will be approx. 900 MB / hour of transfer.
So I have 2 questions in one:
1) Does ab (Apache Bench) test handle SWFObject and gets SWF file while testing too?
2) If 1) is false how to load test my website with SWF file embedded properly?

I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to allow a user to upload a file in the background and let them continue to interact with flash movie, while the file is being uploaded. E.g. if they are uploading a 50mb file, we don't want the whole interface to be locked up for 10 minutes while the file uploads, it's be great if they can continue to interact in the movie while the file uploads. I'm guessing if they refresh the page, or navigate away from the movie, that the upload process would get cut off and there isn't anyway around that. Couple of ideas I had:
1. My first thought is that we could use a popup window with a upload form in it. Which is simple, but not very cool.
2. Use some sort of ajax background uploader in conjunction with flash ... not sure exactly if this is possible.

I recently used Flash to create the header for my website. However, when I tried to upload my .fla file along with the .swf (which had no problem), I couldn't because the file format isn't supported. Is there any way I can get around this?
Also, I heard that you have to upload some .js file or something.

uploading files on Mac system. The same code runs perfect on a Windows system. Below is a snippet of the code I am using:
public class BrowseImage extends MovieClip
{
public var fr:FileReference = new FileReference();
public var ff:FileFilter = new FileFilter("Images", "*.jpg;*.gif;*.png;*.pdf,*.JPG,*.JPEG,*.GIF,*.PNG");
private var timeStamp:String;
[code].....
Once the file gets uploaded to the server, I load it into my application.Also, the script runs fine if there isn't any space in the file name of the file to be uploaded.
