Actionscript :: Progress Indicator Using Flash.display.Loader
Jun 13, 2009
I need to do a simple progress indicator while loading an image on background. I'm using the flash.display.Loader class in what seems to be the standard way. The problem is that even though I can see that flash.display.LoaderInfo fires the ProgressEvent.PROGRESS at regular intervals using tracing, a dynamically updated text (or any other graphics object) is updated only once when the loading finishes. It looks like if the display update queued and caused only one update at the end. This is a simplified version of the function which initiates the loading:[code]

I am trying to upload image files to my server using AS3 and PHP, and at the moment I am succeeding in uploading multiple files and restricting it to images only, but since I am finding it difficult to figure out how to have a loader bar show when the files are being uploaded, as well as executing a function once all files have been uploaded to go to a specified frame.
Here is my code thus far,
AS3:
import flash.net.FileReferenceList;
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.net.URLRequest;
[Code]....
1: how can I display a percentage or a uploading bar indicating the progress of the files being uploaded?
2: How can I launch a callback function after ALL files have been uploaded successfully?
3: How can I make the file browser appear on click, and not upon loading the flash file?

When using Loader class to load display objects (bitmaps, SWFs...) from remote URLs, is there any way for them to be instantiated (referenced as we know, by Loader::content property) as some user specified valid subclass? For example if I had a class that extended a Bitmap, is there any way for the loaded object to be of this class?

Is there any way to display the playback progress of an external loaded .swf file BUT it is not made with timeline animation? I mean I used TweenMax for the animation on the loaded .swf and due to this the totalFrames method doesn't seem to work... Is there any solution for this? (I would prefer not to transform the .swf as an .flv cause I need the interactivity)
Part of my code so far is:
Code:
function swfLoaded(event:Event):void
{
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, trackPlayback);
}

I am building an ActionScript 3 loader,which display the progress of Flash loading an external script. Here is a snippet of my code that works perfectly.
this.SWFLoader = new Loader();
this.SWFLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, trackProgress);
this.SWFLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loadComplete);
this.SWFLoader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, loadError);
As you can see, I have three event listeners, each for listening for different events triggered during the loading process.In regards to the above snippet, here is what I am unsure of:
What is the contentloaderinfo object?
What properties does the contentloaderinfo object contain?
Why can't I just use this.SWFLoader.addEventListener()?
When is it appropriate to use contentloaderinfo?

I have a SWF file that is the first frame of the movie and it's only purpose is to load in another SWF and show text corresponding to the progress of download completion. When I test the movie (Simulate Download) it just simulates without showing my text with percentage complete. The only way I can get it to show, is if I add a button to click to make it show. How can I get it, so that when someone opens the movie, it will start the download process, show the percentage, and then upon completion, start the UILoader movie?[code]...

I have a xml image gallery and I want to add a simple progress bar component from flash cs5 to the thumbs when they 1st load up in the carousel.
I understand about the progress bar and how it works and I have tried all day to insert the correct code into my project but I just can't seem to get it right. I dont want to use buttons for the progress bar as demonstrated by Republic of Code, I would just like the progress bars to load when thumbs are loading.
I have included below the progress bar AS3 code from the site "republic of code" which I have been learning from. Also below is the code from my xml gallery.
progress bar AS3 code
import fl.controls.ProgressBar;
import fl.controls.Button;

The application is loading a fairly large SWF from the server using the Loader class. Strangely enough, the progress bar immediately goes to 100% (but the loading still takes a while after that). The code is below, but you'll see it's basically too simple to break.
It has worked when the application was on a different server, so I though maybe the new server wasn't sending the size of the large SWF in the http headers. Firebug does show a progress bar though, so that is not the case, the information should be available.---
Update: That's actually incorrect, Apache does in fact not send the Content-Length the header. Going to look into that. :EndUpdate
It also works when I run the loader swf locally and change the URL (new URLRequest("Placemat.swf")) to the absolute URL of Placemat.swf on the server.
var l:Loader = new Loader();
addChild(l);
l.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, function(e:ProgressEvent) {
s.setProgress(e.bytesLoaded/e.bytesTotal);
[code]....

I am 5 days into actionscript and i have no prior training or experience in programming, flash using or whatever you might need to build a decent site, except for the graphic design part. I do however need to build an online portflio asap and things have been going great
I have a main movie that uses buttons to go to specific frames on the main timeline:
HZWA.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToAndStopAtFrame);
function fl_ClickToGoToAndStopAtFrame(event:MouseEvent):voi d

I'm running into some problems using the close() method.I'm trying to build a class that checks a resource size before loading it.it's very simple: I use the Loader class to load the resource, listens to the first progress event and immediately closes the connection with the Loader.close() method.However, the close() doesn't seem to stop the Loader after the first progress event dispatched.here is a quick copy & paste frame code just to demonstrate my point:
Code:
import flash.display.Loader;
import flash.events.ProgressEvent;
import flash.net.URLRequest;
[code]....
The ProgressEvent is thrown until the big.jpg loading is complete.How could I stop it just after the first progress event?

I have a dynamic text field which is loading images from an external html. This text is named scrollPaneImage and is a child of a movieClip called scrollPaneContent. I then load scrollPaneContent into a scroll pane named scrollPane
When the user interacts with my swf different images are loaded into scrollPaneImage. Since some of the images take a few seconds to load, I'd like there to be a progress loader displayed in the scrollpane.
I have tried adding the progress event listner to the dynamic text, the movie clip and the scrollpane and cannot get it to respond or track the loading.
scrollPaneContent.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS,reportProgress);
function reportProgress(e:ProgressEvent):void {
trace(e.bytesLoaded + " loaded out of " + e.bytesTotal);
trace("LOADED");
}

I am using the Loader to load an external swf into my program. Inside the external swf, I need to be able to access the Loader instance that just loaded it. Does the loader add the external swf to itself before any code inside the swf gets executed? When is it safe to access the loader via the following code?
var target:DisplayObject = this;
while(!(target is Loader) && DisplayObject(target).parent != null){
target = DisplayObject(target).parent;
}

I've been testing a file from my server and I'm getting varying results using different browsers. IE8 is displaying the file as intended however Firefox and Chrome give me an annoying little glitch. The problem lies with the way my preloader reacts using the MovieClipLoader class.
I have a main file with subsections where swfs are loaded in to blank clips. I'm using a preloader to display their progress and the preloader displays an animation by percentage increment up to 100%. If the target clip is not yet loaded then the preloader functions as intended across all browsers. However, if I revisit an already visited section where the preloader should not display due to the file having been already loaded, I'm getting a brief flicker (around 1 frame) of the preloader in a random state of load progress. Again, this does not apply to IE8 - everything there seems to be in order.It's as though it's firing onLoadProgress for a brief instant instead of just going to onLoadComplete.

Does flash.display.Loader determine the file by filename or header?
The reason why I ask is that I'm getting an IOError: "Unknown File Type" when loading an swf which has a strange filename (in the form of "filename.randomnumbersandletters.swf").

I'm loading a swf-file from my program written in as3 using the flash.display.Loader class. When I'm using the debug build configuration in FlashDevelop everything works fine. But when I'm using the release build configuration the program freezes for around two seconds efter the loader sends the progress events and before sending the complete event.
This is my program:
package
{
import flash.display.Loader;
import flash.display.Sprite;
[Code]....
After around two seconds where the program is frozen the line Completed on frame: 2 is added and the 'On frame X' counter starts ticking up. Debug build produces the same output but without the freeze.
Not all swf-files I have tried loading triggers the problem. The size of the file doesn't seem to affect anything. I have tried compiling and running on another computer with the same result.
Edit: I noticed that if the program is compiled with debug=true the flash player takes around two seconds to start, the same length of time the flash player is frozen when debug=false.

Im looking for a jquery or ajax file uploader, Im currently using the FancyUploader which worked great until Flash brought out their update making all flash progress bars absolete, now whenever I try to upload large files... it will fill the progress bar to 100% in a matter of seconds even though the actual upload finished minutes after. So im now looking for a new uploading script that DOESNT require flash but can still display the progress.

Discovered yesterday that the preloader I've been working with (loads external SWFs into levels based on this tutorial) which works fine on a local preview and IE, is having some major issues in Firefox. I thought this was a little bizarre at first but have since discovered that it could be something to do with 4 bytes that IE ignores but Firefox has a problem with. I've been searching for a solution that I can use pretty much constantly since then, and I'm stumped. Here's a link if you want to see it in (in)action: link
In IE, everything is good. Page loads, preloader starts at the bottom of the progress bar and progress is acurate. In Firefox, page loads, external swfs DO preload but progress bar doesn't display. When swfs are 100% loaded, the full progress bar appears with my "click to enter" link. But people will definitely have left the page thinking nothing is happening by then.
