View 2 Repliesi have my main.swf that loads front.swf and i want my main to have an access to instance name of button that comes from front.swf, how to do that?
View 1 Repliesone of my problem is that how do i call the instance name of a button from my child.swf to my parent.swf
i have four buttons from my child.swf where when i click btn1 it will load superchild.swf but i want to load that superchild.swf to my parent.swf, like instead btn1 calls superchild.swf to load, btn1 will call parent.swf then on parent.swf it will distinguish that btn1 was click from child.swf and it will now load superchild.swf.
I placed a movie clip instance inside a button, and I want this movie clip to play when the button is released. I'm using this code on the frame containing the button:
function playMovie(event:MouseEvent)
{
this.theButton.theMC.gotoAndPlay(3);
[code].....
I have a general / somewhat newbie question. Is it better practice to call a function from another class like so:

Does one way free up more memory or enhance performance?
I am trying call a popup window from actionscript on a button and am having trouble I am using following: import flash.external.ExternalInterface; Then on the button in Flash: on (release) { ExternalInterface.call("myPopup.start", "#contactForm"); } but I don't know if ExternalInterface will properly call the start() method.... am a little lost The page is @ [URL] and the link at the bottom "CLICK HERE FOR FORM" is what needs to be incorporated into a flash button on the SWF.
View 0 Replieshow to call a button. I have a main file ("AS3Build.fla"), which imports an xml file, and imports different swfs depending on which node in the xml is being referenced. One of the swfs("slide_01_03.swf") I'm importing has a button("btn_01_01") that I'm having trouble accessing. First of should the script for the button be in the swf that holds the button, or the main file that will be importing the swf? I've got it in the swf currently with a trace file to see if it's recognizing the click. So far not luck. So I'm starting to think it should be in the main fla, and be referenced something like: this.loader.addEventListener.btn_01_01. This doesn't seem to work either though.

I have a custom class and inside its constructor, I need "x" and "y" arguments passed on. Now when I call the class and create and instance of it, flash should pop up "the code hinting"...(but it doesn't), or am I missing something???
I'm having trouble simulating a click call to a button(displayObject) thats generated via an API call( youtube as3 API). I have not seen any mention of security reasons as to why I can not simulate a click as long as something is registered with a click handler. Basically I checked to make sure the button made is listening to a mouse click event with:
trace(generatedButton.hasEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK)) which returns true
I proceed to than call this:
generatedButton.dispatchEvent( new MouseEvent(MouseEvent.CLICK, true) );
And nothing happens yet if I physically click the button it works. Is there some security measure that prevents something from being fake clicked unless its origin is strictly from the system mouse?
I even set a timeout call on the click function and moved my cursor over the button and let it fire in case it was an issue of the mouse having to over the object but still nothing. I am kind of stumped at this point.
How can I call the instance name of a mc? For example in AS2 I would do: this._name How do I do in AS3?
View 3 RepliesI have want to tell a movie instance to play from a class:
`package com
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
public class Global extends MovieClip
[code]....
pic1m is the class, but I get 1120 undefined property error.If I just put pic1m.play(); in my main timeline action layer it works fine, but I need the function playMask to be global in AS3...
I am using Flash2004 MX
I thought this would be simple, but it hasn't been.
I have a seris of hidden MCs named star1, star2 etc.
I want them to become visible when I call this function.
star_fn = function() {
starcount++
starshow=("star" + starcount)
starshow._visible=true
}
But it is not working.
I thought maybe it was like converting variable info to a number format, but using a text scenario instead.
What I have:A swf exports a function via ExternalInterfaceJavascript creates new embed object and adds it to the documentCalling flash functions works fine in other browsersCalling flash functions will fail in IE 8Example of exporting functions in swf:
flash.external.ExternalInterface.addCallback("isActive", ...
Example of creating the embed object:
var b = document.createElement('embed');
[code].....
Everytime I try to do even an
ExternalInterface.call('alert','abc');
(Which will work on every browser) I get an
object doesn't support this property or method
After the alert appears. It even happens in the HTML generated by flash without me touching it...
how to embed external javascripts within flash with out having the scripts on the HTML.
View 0 Repliesconfiguring this instance movie to play when i click a button, here is my movie structure:
- root movie - container and some external .swf movie
The process is there will be button load at the end of root movie, and calling some external swf movie with number. all the swf will play in a container each swf movie(about 5 animation)
At the end of root movie there is also some loop animation that play at the end of root movie, while we can click the button also.
What i want to do is how can i play the loop movie, start from the middle when i click one of the button.
So what happen will be: - click button = external movie load and the instance name play from frame 100 and loop again.
i have a main movie. i use a loader to load a "example.swf" file. then i place that file inside a holder movieclip. in example.swf, i have an instance of a class i just wrote. this class has some particular methods. from my main movie, i want to call the methods of the instance of my class i have in example.swf. how can i do that??? i know it's a kind of casting, but none seems to work.
View 1 RepliesHow would you add a listener to an object inside of a movieclip that is in the library and as not been placed on the stage yet? Or, could you tell it to listen for when it does go on stage if it does come on the stage and when it comes on the stage to add an eventlistener to a movieclip inside of that?
View 3 RepliesFrom my Main class, in the method onBackgrLoad, I am trying to call a couple of public methods (i.e. xmlData, hintergrund & numOfProducts) located in LoadXML. I keep receiving an error message that "loadXML" is undefined. I dont understand why because I clearly defined it in the main class:

Is it possible to call an instance of a movieclip by a variable name?
Say I have several movie-clips on the main timeline and a variable named "disabled". I want to click a button and have be able to tell "disabled" to goto frame 2, where disabled will contain the name of the movie-clip. can I do this?
When I try to use this code to call a function for every instance of a certain class I get an error saying that there is a "call to a possibly undefined method removeInstance through a reference with static type flash.displayObject".
Code:
for (var i:int=0; i<=numInstances; i++) {
if (numInstances!=0&&getChildByName("b"+i)!=null) {
getChildByName("b"+i).removeInstance();
}
}
I am talking about doing something like this: [URL]
from flash by using ExternalInterface probably
I'm so use to timeline code, that this baffles me. How do I get a button class to recognize a button instance on stage?
[Code]...
Error: 1120: undefined property The error indicates it's the mouse event, not my instance name mc. LINK TO THE FILE
I've created a button in Flash, and inside that I have a TextField and a MovieClip, both with instance names set. They cover all 4 frames of the button, with no keyframes.I found I couldn't access the objects using the instance names I'd set, so I used this piece of code to see what's going on:
var obj:DisplayObject = this.m_graphics.btnChange.upState;
for ( var i:int = 0; i < obj.numChildren; i++ )
{
[code]....
I have 2 instances of a button wich is red and has a white label I have to edit the buttons so one button is red, and the other is green I was doing this, but when applied Also the title of label goes green instead of being white...

I am using in AS3 "External Interface ". When I call the JS function that is on the same page as swf everything works fine.
I added a link in the html page to an external JS file, when I move the JS function to the external JS file the website crushes.
I would prefer to have all my JS functions on an external file so I can use them in the future in other project and it also makes it easier for me to update the site.
how to call a JS function that is on an external file from AS3?
I'm trying to reference an instance through the use of a variable in my call to a prototype. The variable is myVar and contains the instance name to which I want to apply the resizeTo prototype. My syntax is incorrect.
Code:
on(release){
//disregard this line
this.swapDepths(this._parent.getNextHighestDepth());
//this is calling a prototype named resizeTo
this.resizeTo(150, -100, -100);
//Setting instance name of another movie
myVar = "green";
//Trying to drop that instance name into my next prototype call
this._parent.myVar.resizeTo(100, _parent.old_X, _parent.old_Y);
}
I have 35 textboxes with the names "t1" to "t35". How would I call these names in a for loop? I have tried this with no luck:

I know I'm doing something wrong with the ("t"+i) but I dont know how how to combine a string and number like that.
I'm trying to edit some flash to make an external javascript function call, but with no success. Here's my actionscript 2.0 code:
[Code]....
I've seen lots of examples and I'm mainly confused about the use of ExternalInterface.addCallback. I don't need the javascript to return anything to flash, so is this necessary? For whatever reason, I never see the alert. Does anyone see any problems in my code? Is there some ExternalInterface library I don't have? Also, what's the BEST way to use ExternalInterface (ie; error checking, etc.)
It used to happen in AS2.0 as follows :
my_Mc.onPress = function()
{
trace( this)
}
//output :
[my_Mc Movieclip]
[Code]...
