I know that the question may seem very easy. I am trying to display an image on canvas.I need to do it in AS, and also I need to locate image in specific coordinates.

I have 35 movie clips named mcMyObject1, mcMyObject2, etc. to mcMyObject35Each time the playhead enters the frame this code sits on, I want all of these 35 movie clips to be placed on the stage in random orderI want each one of these 35 movie clips to land on one of these X coordinates: 57, 187, 317, 447, 577, 707, 837 and on one of these Y coordinates: 53, 183, 131, 443, 573. I'm trying to skin a canvas with an image (which is essentially a custom border for the canvas). I've been trying the backgroundImage style as well as the borderSkin style. I can't get the image to scale to the full size of the canvas though. I was wondering what the best way to go about this is.[code]...

I have 500x500px images in my Library that I want to load to a specific set of coordinates. I've found various hints on how to insert images programatically, but none state how to insert to a specific location.Currently, my code goes something like this:

However, this sets the default location to the upper left corner. How can I set the xy coordinates for the image to be displayed at?

I'm developing a web app using Flex. This app allows to draw forms in a Canvas (like MSPaint in Windows).Now, I want a new feature on it: an infinite canvas. The user should be able to drag the main Canvas and this should be infinite in X and Y axis. Consecuently, this Canvas should be resized in real time.
Obviously, I don't want to create a Canvas of 1k x 1k pixels with zoom in an specific area to give the feeling of an infinite drawing area.
EDIT:I just read that Flash/Flex Flash/Air supports canvases up to 4056x4056 px, not infinite.

I've used .x = and .y = with the position I want and the pane continues to show up in the top left corner instead. What am I doing wrong?

I have an Image nested inside a Canvas.

I'd like the Image not to overflow the bounds of Canvas. But when I set width and height on the Canvas, my Image disappears. Canvas also doesn't seem to respect horizontalScrollPolicy.
Seems easy enough, but as the official Flex documentation is down at the moment, I thought I'd turn to SO.

I have an image loaded from an url and added to canvas as child. Then I am drag and dropping another image on it which also uses the senocular transform so the image can be transformed on the canvas. I have coded in such way that the transform handles shows up only after it's dropped on canvas. The image shows up correctly. But I am trying to save the result image (that is the main image and the dropped image on top of it), I only end up with the main image that was loaded earlier. The dropped image doesn't show up.
Below is the code for handleDrop() that is fired on dragDrop event and prepares the final image.

I want to dynamically add different items to thumbContent canvas and use scroller canvas to scroll. I see than the height of thumbContent bigger than 7977 it truncate from scrolling. So - I see the scroller canvas with empty space on top. Then I scroll to bottom - I see the content of thumbContent and at bottom scrolling I see empty space too.

I'm running into an odd issue with itemRenderers inside a TileList.Here is a working example without an itemRenderer: 152.org/flex/
Here is the broken version with an itemRenderer: 152.org/brokenExample/. (I don't have the rep to make both of these a link)Both examples have "View Source" enabled.To see the problem use the broken example, select an album and scroll down one row. Scroll back up and the images will be switched.If you try this on the working example it's fine.This seems to be a widely known bug, but I can't find a solution for it.
UPDATE: I started playing with this example again and found out something else. Turns out you don't have to override the data setter. You can create a new method in the itemRenderer that is set whenever the tile wants to refresh. So the trick is to not rely on the initialize or creationComplete methods.This is what I have for the itemRenderer in the Application.

I was trying to convert global coordinates to local coordinates of a UIComplenent in my flex project using below code using below code
var gp:Point = new Point(e.stageX,e.stageY); //global point
var lp:Point = uic.globalToLocal(gp); //local point
uic is UIComponent in which I have subclass of Sprite for drawing something I have set the sprite's mouseEnabled and mouseChildren to false to not interrupt the mouse event. above code is within uic's mousemove event where I was tracing the gp and lp gp was giving correct value and suprisingly lp was giving negetive values. when I move the move to the top left corner of uic i expect lp to be 0,0 but it is giving the -width of of uic. I broke my head for hours and ended up finding an alternate by using offsets. Infact my original code was much simpler like this which was same issue

I am not sure what exactly is causing this problem. the workaround had lot of issues and it creating a mess in my rest of the algorithms.Just now I found even more interesting thing (which is actually weird). for some reason I went and create a new lp2

now surprisingly it was giving correct values as expected and I went back and changed the code as
var gp:Point = new Point(e.stageX,e.stageY); //global point
var lp:Point = uic.globalToLocal(gp); //local point
var lp2:Point = new Point(e.localX,e.localY);
var lp2:Point = uic.globalToLocal(gp);
now it is expected to have all the lp, lp2 and lp3 variables to be same but weiredly lp two is giving wrong value and lp2 and lp3 were giving correct. I am suspecting using the variable lp has something to do. I am not sure about that but above proves it so right now I am using lp2.

also this is not all my coding im just learning off of it to create my own project... What coding would i use to tell the mc to stop scrolling once it reaches a certain x coordinate? for example x=0 (left side of stage) or x= -484 which is when right side of picture is at right side of stage... and can i setup math for it to automatically determine the correct x coordinate (based off mc width) to stop at?? if there is easier scripting to do the same....fill me in
oh and x is off of the stage typically...this is panoramic pics im scrolling

I have menu.swf which loads an external SWF (longmenu.swf)longmenu.swf has a long background on stage, which scrolls according to what the user clicks. It works fine on it's own with tweenLite. But what i need to do is to have menu.swf controls to which part of the background it scrolls or appears at once an item on menu.swf is clicked.

They also have to stay within the bounds of the water. I tried placing it on the spot I want on the movie clip, and alter the code like so:

I'm building a dynamic content page in flash that consists of using attachMovieClip and createEmptyMovieClip with coordinates to place photos and objects, which are loaded from an external source and scrolling their thumbnails I've run into a problem setting the variables correctly because the scrolling thumbnails required that the thumbnails be nested inside a scrolling controller clip and that has somehow messed up my preloading and sequential text caption loading for the tumbnails.

How do I have a file that's created via actionscript save the file in some other location other than the default, really long appdata/roaming/Macromedia/etc./etc. directory? I'm using the SharedObject.getLocal syntax, but is there another syntax I need to use so that I can save the file in a directory called appdata/roaming/MyApplicationName ?

I am currently working on a platformer, and I have a bunch of different tiles I use to form my maps with. These tiles are very different in the looks, and placed besides eachother, they give a very sharp change, which is not very visually appealing. I've been trying to fix this in the following way:
I have four layers, two for each block I'm fading. The first layer is where the actual tile, the graphic, is located. The second layer is the mask. In the mask layer, I have a gradient, which is the exact opposite of the other tiles mask layer (Mask layer 1 goes down, mask layer 2 goes up). However, I need to be able to alter those dynamically, place new gradients in the appropriate mask layer, and new tiles in the appropriate graphics layer.
I've been googling around for the last hour or so, attempting to find a way to define which layer a new MovieClip is placed on, but all I've found is setChildIndex, which, since one layer acts as a mask, I can't use. Is there any such function in Actionscript, or am I to make all combinations of tiles by hand?

for a menu i use 3 MCs, when you click one of them, the two others MCs will make place for the 'options' of the clicked menu. What i want to do is give a specific _x and _y coordinates for the menus to move at when the other one is clicked (start and arrival, and have a motion tween between them). see what i mean?
