Java :: Get Started On A Simple Physics Based Game (with Angle / Power)?

Nov 28, 2011

Basically there will be a club and a ball. You can control the power and angle to hit the ball. How do I go about implementing this? Is flash the easiest way to go? I want to implement this as a facebook game. Any game libraries specific to this I can use to quickly implement a basic version? I am comfortable with Java and PHP.

I'm doing a prototype game like Worms and I would like not only to shot, but also see the whole projection curve where my shot will travel before it hit the ground. The only information given by the player is an angle and a power. There is also some level elements like wind and gravity.

Can I have a code for the projection curve? its like a parabola I think. I research about parabola but I had some difficult to apply these math formulas into the programming code.

this code just makes the object travel to the upper right hand corner of the screen and it doesnt move after that. so i am missing something

my end goal is to have an object that will chase the users touch coordinates. I know how to have the object follow such coordinates but I dont want it to follow the exact path, but rather the shortest path to the most updated coordinates. so more like an intercept course

Java :: Platform For Web-based Multi-player Game?

Sep 28, 2010

I'm developing a web-based fantasy football game. Most of the game is a straight-forward web application built on top of Linux/Apache/Php/MySQL.

I'm trying to figure out how to implement the draft application. The draft date and time will be scheduled in advance by each league's owner. Up to 32 users may be logged on for a given league's draft, and there is no limit to how many drafts may be happening concurrently. The users will take turns selecting players, and each user's turn will have a time limit. I'd like for all the users to be able to see whose turn it is, how much time that user has left to select a player, who they select, and which players are still available. If there are users in the league who are not logged in during the draft I'd like to be able to detect that and automatically assign players to them rather than waiting for the time to run out on their turn. Ideally I'd also like to have a chat window so the users could chat with one another during the draft.

My background is in desktop application development, so if necessary I could write server code in C#/.NET or Java. As far as I can see these are the options: PHP/AJAX - It seems like it would be possible to have all the state for the draft in the database and have the operations for the draft run in PHP triggered by requests from the clients? I guess in this case the draft doesn't start until at least one user logs in, and it seems like it would be a lot of polling requests to the server if I want everyone notified quickly when a user makes a selection.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Power And Angle To Shoot The Arrow Back - Changing Distances Between The Player

Sep 24, 2010

So I've set myself a little project to build a bowman game. Everythings working smashing until the math at the point where the computer needs to figure out the power and angle to shoot the arrow back at you. What I've been working off is my knowledge from applied-math classes in school. I've been using the following formula where g is gravity, t is time (this would be in frames for flash), sx is the distance between the players, u is the initial force of the arrow and a is the angle we need to find. With a bit of moving around to seperate the angle, this becomes For my AS3 this translates to:

[Code]...

What happens is that it always fires the projectile at a very low angle that doesnt change to match the correct circumstances and I can't figure out how to get around this. Changing the force doesnt make any difference and the program will need to get around changing distances between the player so this math is pretty necessary (I think). Any math heads out there know what I should change?

Flash :: Python - Text-based One-on-one Chat With Interface: What To Power The Backend

Apr 22, 2010

I'm building a website where I hook people up so that they can anonymously vent to strangers. You either choose to be a listener, or a talker, and then you get catapulted into a one-on-one chat room. The reason for the app's construction is because you often can't vent to friends, because your deepest vulnerabilities can often be leveraged against you later on. (Like it or not, this is a part of human nature. Sad.)

I'm looking for some insight into how I should architect everything. I found this neat tutorial, [URL], which suggests using python & stackless + flash. Someone else suggested I should try using p2p sockets, but I don't even know where to begin to look for info on that.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Shoot An Object And Create An Arc Based On An Angle

Sep 21, 2009

I found a basic example of how to create something that'll shoot an object and create an arc based on an angle. I added a power Bar to it, but I noticed something bad about it.

The way it works the higher the speed is the further it goes and the faster it moves across the screen. This doesn't give me enough control. Because essentially I want fast moving projectiles but I want to also be able to shoot both near and far.

With this current system that's an impossibility.. Can anyone shed some light on how I can do this better? Here's the current way it's being done (important parts):

Code:
bullet = new Bullet;
this.stage.addChild(bullet);
bullet.speed = 1 + powerBar.scaleX * 20;

This is the best iv tried to explain it - sorry its probably hard to understand what im doing. Here is my attempt at doing it but its not very good i was wondering if anybody has got a better way of doing it.

Also the point to note here is that roles can be created dynamically by Super users from UI. I came across this link which describes how to perform Role Based Authentication & Authorization. With this approach I need to define the roles in service-config.xml but since my roles are not pre-defined I cannot go with this.

Flash :: Technologies For Building Simple Web-based Games?

Nov 3, 2011

I want to make some really simple board games that be played in your browser. AFAIK, there are really only two technologies capable of doing this: HTML5 Canvas, and Flash. I think Flash is on it's way out, so I think I should start learning how to work with the canvas.

My questions: Are there any other competing technologies/technologies I should consider? If canvas is the way to go, where can I get started? I already know HTML, JavaScript, and jQuery. I'm mostly interested in learning how to draw basic shapes and detect click events on these shapes.

I'm not overly concerned about supporting old browsers. Obviously I'd like to reach as large an audience as possible, but... I think it's about time people start upgrading their browsers if they want to keep up with the rest of the world, and this isn't going to be the sort of site you [should] visit at work, so corporate policies don't apply.
