AS3 :: Flash - Using BeginBitmapFill() With A Library Object
Jul 1, 2011
How can I setup a .beginBitmapFill() with a bitmap loaded into the movie's library? Every example I've found on the internet uses the loader class to load the bitmap externally, but I want to load it from the library instead.
I want to turn:
mesh.graphics.beginFill(0xFFFFFF,1);
into
mesh.graphics.beginBitmapFill(..., null, true, false);
and have my shape filled with a tiled 'bitmap.bmp' loaded into the library. The major problem is how I can address the library bitmap inside the fill method.

i've imported an image asset (Background.jpg) to my Flash CS5 library and exported it to ActionScript as class Bitmap with a base type of BitmapData. the following code returns the following error:
backgroundTexture = new Shape();
backgroundTexture.graphics.beginBitmapFill(Background);
backgroundTexture.graphics.drawRect(0, 0, stage.stageWidth, stage.stageHeight);
backgroundTexture.graphics.endFill();

I have a program that responds to mouse clicks on the stage. Each time the user clicks it draws a horizontal or vertical rectangle composed of 32x32 squares to that point. Currently I am doing the following to fill in the rectangle with a png i have made.
Code:
// Draw segment
var myBitmap:BitmapData = new BitmapData(32, 32, false);

I have a as file which basically draws a box around the bottom of your mouth and I am using a beginFill () function for the box. Basically I need to replace this fill with a bitmap image using beginBitmapFill () command. The trouble is I cannot find any resources that show me how to make the bitmap image wether it be a movieclip or graphic.
Also code (if it helps any) ActionScript Code: g.drawRect( r.x * scaleFactor, r.y * scaleFactor, r.width* scaleFactor, r.height * scaleFactor ); g.beginFill(0xFF0000); g.drawRect(r.x * scaleFactor + (r.width* scaleFactor)/3.6, r.y * scaleFactor + (r.height * scaleFactor)/1.65, 70, 40); g.endFill();

I have this "left half of a door" image in my library, and I did cloned the same image to the stage, making it "right half of a door" but really would like to know what would be the right way of doing such things..[code]Should I just make new instance, or do it through function? Is there a memory issues in one of those, what hurts Flash more?

i have a flash file with a number of movieclips in the library - various bubbles that can be popped at a clilck. The fla has a document class - BubbleGame.as, and the various bubble mcies in the library are all exported for action script, (using their own names, but) with a mutual Base Class - BubbleBase.as, in order that all the various bubble movie clips have the same behavior: load in a random position, play out their own timelines, be popped when clicked, and if not popped - reload in another position.
This is all working very well, however, I want the movie clips removed if they hit an object on the stage. The object has an instance name of sym_mc, and I have tried various bits of code to cause the bubble to be removed when it hits that object, but i either get errors or nada.
I tried doing the hitTestObject code in both the document class and the base class. It seems more appropriate to have it in the base class - BubbleBase.as (below), because that tells the bubbles what to do.

determine the base class of a Flash library object at runtime, using Actionscript? The toString method gives me the class of the object, but what I'd really like to determine is the superclass of the object. So, if I have an Actionscript class called "Fruit" and I created many different Fruit types in the Flash library ("Cherry", "Apple", etc.), is there a way in code I can determine that an "Apple" is a child of "Fruit"?

Since i upgraded to Flashplayer 9.0.124.0 i've noticed that using textures on 3D Objects via the beginBitmapFill method and setting the smooth attribute to 'true' causes the player to hang a few milliseconds at random. Setting smooth to 'false', the player runs without any hang. I tested this on different machines. An upgrade to player 10 beta didn't cure the symptoms but the hangs appear less in time. Has anyone else such problems or an idea what is going on?

I'm working on a game whose background has many layers that each scroll at different speeds.
Inside each layer I have a Sprite, I've started using graphics.beginBitmapFill, but what I've found is that the graphics.clear() function doesn't actually clear the contents set by the previous call to graphics.begin.BitmapFill. Each frame, I adjust the matrix to shift the layer as needed. Then, I call graphics.clear() and graphics.beginBitmapFill() with the adjusted matrix. Since my layers have alphas in the bitmap, I can see the contents that was drawn the previous frame.

Is there any way I can determine why an animation in a "Graphics" library object of 10 frames length does not play if the main time line has only 1 frame? When the same item is changed to "MovieClip", it plays fine, regardless of the number of frames!

I am making a game where I reference "Player_mc". There are many different characters you can play as, so there can't be only one movieclip being called "Player_mc" I have each character (movieclip) in the library. How can I call upon them to come to the stage and be given the instance name "Player_mc".Also how can I remove them when the character is changed?[code]

I have a graphic or movie clip as an example which is a water bottle. An what I wanna do is that depending on what is the user response, in my case is how long the person is doing some activity, depending on that I want flash to generate a number of graphics/movie clips on the screen. As example the person says that takes 6 minutes doing "x" activity, so as a response of a button click which says "generate consumption", it generates on the screen how many water bottles he has consumed for that range of time doing that activity, for example each minute is 2 water bottles, so it has to generate 12 water bottles on the screen when the user press "generate consumption".

how to make an object appear on click from library. however it never appears where i want it to on stage. very frustrating. i go to change the x-y cordinates of the object in the library to match exactly with where i have an existing object on the stage but it doesnt seem to corelate with the scene? instead it is way off course.
secondly what is the code for clicking an object on the stage to show a masked or hidden layer? or something like that.
when i get either of the above sorted i might actually get some headway LOl

I have a class in my .fla's library called StatBar_object. StatBar_object is an inherited class that extends from a custom class StatBar, while StatBar extends from MovieClip.
However, StatBar's constructor has a parameter (the constructor reads "public function StatBar(target:int)"). Thus, I continually get an output of:
"ArgumentError: Error #1063: Argument count mismatch on StatBar_object(). Expected 0, got 1.
at actionscript.stat::StatBox_object()
at actionscript.modes::battle_mode()"
Is there any way to get StatBar_object's constructor to include StatBar's parameter?

I have a Main class that I call from the .fla file. Everything work fine until I set a object in the Library "export for actionscript"... after that the stage didn't work anymore, the stage now return "null", just because I checked an object to "export for actionscript". I'm using flash cs5 and it never happen to me with the early version of flash.

I want to creat an instance of an object out of the movie's library. I know there is that one funky function duplicateMovieClip that will duplicate instances of objects already on the stage, but can I dynamically insert objects when I want to, without having to drag a prototype object onto the stage manually?

I make a movie clip in the library ( a button with a text field on it ) and export it for actionscript. Then I create an instance of the object using code ( myButton = new Button1(); ).And then I want to access and change the text field ( whose instance name is "myField" in Flash ) afterwards.Is that possible, or I have to create a custom class for the object, or just create an entire button dynamically?
Because what I have tried until now doesn't work.
Code:
var button1:button_test1 = new button_test1();
button1.x = stage.width / 2;
button1.y = stage.width / 2;
[code]....
This questions is for all movie clips: is there a way to access a movie clip's objects with actionscript after you have created (with code) an instance of that object (which was designed in flash, and exported for AS) ?

I used to know how to do this (maybe): I want to load a Symbol from the Library on the fly into an Object on the stage. I think I have to give the Symbol a Class under Properties/Linkage, but after that I'm lost. I know this is a hack-y way to do it, but I want to do this without external Classes and files, all in the one swf.

I've found several threads on the MOUSE_UP "problem" with AS3 where onReleaseOutside, in its AS2 form, doesn't work. The solution being to add a MOUSE_UP event to the Stage.
Question is, if I have a slide-bar class, a simple dragger, its it happens to be added to a movieclip thats in another movieclip etc, do I have to adjust my class continually so that I use: this.parent.parent.parent etc. to get to the Stage to set this listener? I can't just set it using Stage.addListener.
I think this looks cryptic - but to those that have run into this specific MOUSE_UP issue, I'm sure this will look familiar.

I have the following as code in a separate file placed in the root folder of the swf file. Code:

import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import flash.events.Event;

I have loaded swf with an object 'Page'. A 'Page' object is created and a reference to it is added to an array 'pa'.
I have a 2nd loaded swf that then has a reference to the 'pa' array (I don't think this matters but I mention it just in case)
I want to cycle through the array and determine when I get to a Page object. Where I run into problems is trying to compile the class that does this.
Code:
private function CH(e:MouseEvent):void
{
trace(pa);//[object Image],[object Page],[object Blue],[object Red],[object Mask]

I can't make Flash do a gosh darn thing 'flashy', no matter how many tutorials I read, and how many demo's I see, it never seems to do what would make sense. This worked fine until I tried to plop the dynamic text box into its own movie object in the library... I've opened flash, drawn a simple dynamic text box. Set the dynamic text box's data variable to szTextBoxData (why don't text boxes just have a value property? anyways..).
Then selecting it, I convert it to a symbol (as a movie) call it DynamicTextMovie, and stuff it away into the library. Now I delete it from the layer, as I want to add it dynamically at run time. Next, on frame one of the main movie, I insert this code. (sorry for the bad formatting, limit of the forum here..)

I am working in two different applications, one to be compiled for desktop use (AIR) and one to be compiled for the web. They are part of the same project and use the same visual components, but they are completely different apps. When a visual component is changed in one application then it should also change in the other one. Is this a good situation to use a shared library fla? I am new to the concept of shared libraries and I am considering the options.
On one had I would not have to update 2 applications everytime I change something, on the other, I would always have to recompile the library folder when I do the smallest changes to a component.

I've got a simple question. Suppose some simple lib written on c. Did I understood correctly that alchemy compiles it AS3 before compiling it to swf. If so, will the lib be slower or faster in comparison with the same lib written on AS3.
