ActionScript 2.0 :: Calling Functions Of Attached Movies

Jul 22, 2006

I am attaching a bunch of instances of a movieClip to my stage and I want to call a function in this movie clip that I'm attaching however I don't seem to be able to access the movieClips functions. Is there any known reason why this may be happening, something I don't know about attached clips? I'm doing something similar to whats below

Code: myPointer = attachMovie("libraryName","myNewName",newLvl); myPointer.doMyFunc(); I know the clip is attaching correctly because I can see it, but I can't seem to access any functions within the attached clip. I also know that "myPointer" is correctly addressing the attached clip because I can change the clips properties such as width and height.

Basically what I want to do is call a function attached to an event listener, without the event actually happening - for example:I have a function that is attached to Event.RESIZE.I would like to call that function from time to time, but this function of course requires an Event argument, so attempting to just call the function throws an error that it expects 1 argument and got none.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Attaching Movies Within An Attached Movie?

Mar 21, 2008

I have a website, when you click a menu item it fades the current page out, and the selected one in. No problems with that, it all works well.

The only problem is, within those attached movies, all the actionscript doesnt work. I have, for example, a research page, which have 4 buttons, each of which attach a movieclip to and empty movieclip... Just a simple attachMovie function, but it doesnt work. If copy the research movieclip into a seperate flash file, everything works and the movies are attached fine, but in the website .fla, after the research page is loaded itself, none of the movies attach properly.

Are there any known issues with attaching movies within an attached movie?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Calling Function With Event Listener Attached To Button

Jul 26, 2011

I have a situation where I'm calling a function with an event listener attached to a button, which in turn calls a function, which does a number things including calling a second function which resides in a child swf.

Just as an example:
Code:
myBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, firstFunction);
function firstFunction(e:MouseEvent):void{
//I call another function in here (among other things)
externalSwf.stopTimer();
}

"StopTimer" resides in an external swf which for our purposes is called externalSwf and it resets a running timer.
Code:
function stopTimer():void{
myTimer.reset();
}

I'm getting argument mismatch errors, which often have to do with the Event Objects not matching. The event object for firstFunction is a mouse event triggered by a click so I put in e:MouseEvent...what I don't clearly understand is, what type of object event is dispatched when I call the function stopTimer from inside the function firstFunction?

I've got clips being attached using attachMovie (clips are in the library with linkage id's).

I assume that the methods of my attached clip (the functions) aren't available immediately, but rather after the clip actually 'loads' to the stage they are.

ActionScript 3.0 :: External Movies Communication (Array / Functions And Variables)

Jun 23, 2009

I'm new on AS3, I'll try to explain what my project consists: Well, There is a main.fla and It loads external movies triggered by button items. The content animation sequence introduction starts with tweenLite and fills the stage with elements from Library (movieClips, buttons) and some sprites. I've built the intro animation through actionscript. Perhaps I'll need to explain how I did it the TweenLite structure, but the code lines are too long

The transitions / navigation:
Each button before load the external movie has a respective animation that removes the other buttons from the stage. It triggers an "outro" animation and then loads the External Swf.

First:
Each external Swfs contains a removeChild action in a MovieClip that CLOSES and removes the movie.. Like a "pop up" with a close action. After closed It should replay the intro animation and replace the buttons in the stage but it's not happening because I don't know how to communicate between different timelines / external movies.

ActionScript 2.0 :: OnMotionFinished And Calling Other Functions

The thing is that when calling the tween function I need the submenu building function to wait until the tween is finished otherwise things start freaking out. It's organized like this (pseudo code):

[Code]...

The problem is that I need the first tweening to finish before I can build the submenu. I've tried using the onMotionFinished, but it doesn't seem to want to call a function nestled into another function (in this case buildMenu()).
