ActionScript 2.0 :: Access Methods/functions Of Attached Clip?

Jan 29, 2009

i'm attaching clips from library using attachMovie. inside those clips are functions. I'd like to call those functions a few lines after instantiating them using 'attachMovie.' It seems that the clip isn't fully loaded because my functions aren't being called. I tried using movieClip.onLoad, but no dice.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Access Functions Inside Dynamically Attached Clip?

Jan 29, 2009

I've got clips being attached using attachMovie (clips are in the library with linkage id's).

inside those clips are two functions. I'm trying to access those functions after I attach the clips, but not getting anywhere.

I assume that the methods of my attached clip (the functions) aren't available immediately, but rather after the clip actually 'loads' to the stage they are.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Access Data From The Text Boxes (e.g. TextField.text) For Use In The Functions Called By The EventListeners Attached The Buttons?

Nov 1, 2008

The code I'm building creates two MovieClips on the stage, in one it instantiates several text boxes and in the other some buttons.

What I can't do is access data from the text boxes (e.g. textField.text) for use in the functions called by the eventListeners attached the buttons. I had the system all working nicely before I placed the text boxes and the buttons on separate movie clips.but this structure makes it much tidier to refresh the text I'm using.The button functions are fine with variables created prior to the building of the text boxes.

Am I failing to address the text boxes correctly (because they're on another movie clip) or is there a stage / movie clip property I need to set so they can see each other ... or is this something else altogether?Could it be that the buttons are created before the text boxes?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Import External Functions / Methods

Dec 29, 2010

I have a main actionscript file import other actionscript files into it to use their function. From the tutorials and training videos I have, other external classes apart from the document class always link to an object in the library or an object in the main.as is an instance of the other class, for example:[code]

The problem is I'm not creating any variables from the external class but only want to use the functions from it. When I test the movie, I get error 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method isPossibleNo, which is inside class ProjectileNo that is imported already.So my question is how I can use external functions without creating a new instance of the external class because they only hold calculation functions.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Calling Functions Of Attached Movies

Jul 22, 2006

I am attaching a bunch of instances of a movieClip to my stage and I want to call a function in this movie clip that I'm attaching however I don't seem to be able to access the movieClips functions. Is there any known reason why this may be happening, something I don't know about attached clips? I'm doing something similar to whats below

Code: myPointer = attachMovie("libraryName","myNewName",newLvl); myPointer.doMyFunc(); I know the clip is attaching correctly because I can see it, but I can't seem to access any functions within the attached clip. I also know that "myPointer" is correctly addressing the attached clip because I can change the clips properties such as width and height.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Calling Functions Attached To A Listener?

Mar 24, 2009

Basically what I want to do is call a function attached to an event listener, without the event actually happening - for example:I have a function that is attached to Event.RESIZE.I would like to call that function from time to time, but this function of course requires an Event argument, so attempting to just call the function throws an error that it expects 1 argument and got none.

ActionScript 3 :: Conflicting Scope - Global Functions And Class Methods Of Same Name

Jul 6, 2011

My question deals directly with ActionScript 3, although it could possibly appear in other languages. Consider the global trace function found in AS3. Calling the method requires no imports and is globally available from all classes.
class A {
public function A() {
trace("Hello, A!"); // Hello, A!
}}

Now, what if I create my own class method of the same name? In AS3, if I have a class method trace and then make a call to trace elsewhere in my class, the call is made to the class method over the global function. Essentially, I've blocked my ability to call the global trace method.
class B {
public function B() {
trace("Hello, B!"); // no output
} public function trace(s:String):void {
// do something else.
}}

Now, I know the obvious answer is to say, "don't create a class method called trace." But what if I'm unaware of the existence of the global trace function? Or what if I have a desire to "override" or "block" the global function? Is doing so bad programming? Or is this just another example of how AS3 is a poor object oriented language?

ActionScript 2.0 :: [Flash8] Setting Callback Functions On An Object Methods?

Jan 12, 2006

Been doing some actionscript magic lately, done a nice interpolator class. The class, whenever an update occurs, calls a previously specified callback function. Normally, setting a variable of funCallback:Function and calling it works fine. However when I wanted to specify an *object's method* as the callback for the interpolator, it apparently called it as if it would be a static method.

And it isn't.What I need to do, simply speaking, is to be able to call an object's public method, having just th object's reference and function name, just like the second variant of setInterval does ( the one having "object, string" as the first two params, not "function").

ActionScript 3.0 :: Write Class So It Passes All Of Its Functions/methods To The Calling Movieclip?

Nov 22, 2010

How do I write my class so it passes all of its functions/methods to the calling movieclip? For example, the following code imports my graphics class and creates a square:

ActionScript Code:
import sprites.vectorGraphics;
var vGX = new vectorGraphics();
var newSquare = vGX.createVector(this, 'square', 'rectangle', 20, 20, 0xff0000, 1, 0x0000ff, true);

That I'd like to be able to do is this:

ActionScript Code:
import sprites.vectorGraphics;
var newSquare = createVector(this, 'square', 'rectangle', 20, 20, 0xff0000, 1, 0x0000ff, true);

Flex :: Data Access Object Or Inline Methods?

Jan 28, 2011

I am still very new to Actionscript and have an okay working knowledge of Flex. I am working on an AIR application that runs a SQLite database underneath. The database is only 3 tables (projects, items and types). I was wondering if Actionscript best practices are to use a data access object or layer to store all of my database functions or to just run them inline as needed. I would assume an access layer would be best for interacting with the database for usability, but I can't seem to find much documentation for SQLite in AIR.

Flash - Access Methods Of MovieClip Inside ScrollPane?

May 9, 2011

I'm using a movieClip inside a ScrollPane to show a list of CheckBoxes. The amount of CheckBoxes shown is dynamic, it depends on a SQL query. After the query is done, I add as many CheckBoxes as rows in the result set. What I am trying to do is to access some methods I wrote in the MovieClip inside the ScrollPane to get the length of the CheckBoxes, check which ones are selected and the label they have (their label is also defined by the SQL query).

I've tried this
valueINeedToGet = Object(root).scrollPaneInstance.source.functionINeedToRun();
But it returns error #1006
How can I access the code inside the MovieClip inside the ScrollPane?

Actionscript 3 :: Access The Methods Of A Dynamically Created Movieclip?

Jun 28, 2011

How do I access the methods of a dynamically created movieclip/object?

For simplicity sake I didn't post code on how I dynamically created the movieclip. Instead, assume its already created. It is an object. It is called field_2. Below it is referenced by using getChildByName('field_' + field.id);

Check_box_component.as

public var testVar:String = 'test';
public function testReturn()
{
return 'value returned';

[Code]...

When I trace temp.testReturn, why does it show "function Function() {}" instead of "value returned"?

This link below helped me get this to this point.

Flash 9 :: Access Document Class Methods From Within MovieClip?

Aug 27, 2008

Let's say I have a FLA file with document class called main. In main, let's say I have a method called test1 that just outputs "hello world" via trace. On the FLA I have a movie clip. In that movie clip, when the timeline reaches frame 123, I want it to invoke the test1 method (I just set up a simple action on the frame). However, I get an error saying that the method is undefined. I try this.parent.test1() too but that gives me the same error. Is it not possible to invoke a document class property from within the timeline of a movie clip that's on the stage?
