I am working on a flash calculator that was created by another developer. The calculations work correctly only after the values are reset to none.So I am thinking that if I handle the reset when the swf first loads that it will solve the problem.Right now the code in frame one is stop();What would be the correct way to add this to frame one as well:

I am creating a simple flash page that loads XML data to propigate text fields. However, the project is acting very strangley, certain areas of the whole movieclip aren't responding in the normal way. If i move a fully working button in to certain areas of the screen it won't react at all or fire off any events.
I have uploaded a video to youtube that demonstrates how certain areas of the screen are just black holes
For demonstration purposes i added a MC with the opactiy slightly down and buttonmode enabled, this is not part of my usual project.[URL]..

What I have is two buttons that when clicked they add an input text field and a third button that puts a text field and gives you the total value of the two input fields after the user inputs some numbers, the problem is that the buttons adding the input fields can be clicked multiple times and of course adding a new input field each time they are clicked and as you can imagine when I try to add the values I only get the result of the last two fields added.
How can I tweak my code so it adds-up the total value of all input fields on the stage?
I didnt test my code it may have some errors, I just put it together to show the concept.

I am setting up a series of tasks and might not have enough 1st graders so I might ask some 2nd graders to fill in some spots, of course 1st graders can not fill in for 2nd graders so that should not happen. Each color corresponds to a specific task which are linked across the grade levels. So DES1 2nd grade can only cover a DES1 first grade position.
The same thing goes for 3rd graders to cover 2nd grader positions.
So if I take the DES2 position in the 2nd grader column and drag it down it should back fill into the 1st grader position of DES2
Column one knows the info of a 1st grader Column two knows that of a 2nd grader and a 1st grader Column three knows 3rd grade and prior.

Is it possible to retrieve the value from an TextInput box that is created at runtime?
I've assigned the TextInput box (or many MANY boxes, in this case) with unique names using something like, input.name = "input"+i inside a for loop. But then, later if I try to retrieve the value of input2.text, for example, I get the old 1120: Access of undefined property input2.
Oddly, if I assign an eventlistener to the input box in the same for loop, and trace e.target.name, I get the name input2. But if I try to call the value directly via input2.text, I get the error.
So is there some way to get that TextInput value without giving it a name within Flash? Or perhaps a better way to assign a name to it in the first place?

Just new in forum and just new in as3 programming. All i want to do is to make some physics simulations (i'm physics teacher...). So i made my first sim with the following code, just to simulate a simple motion with constant velocity. It works ok, except the part i need to reset the display by the means to start the motion all over again (reset button). Then the motion starts but the traces of the previous motion remains on stage. I tried the null command (sp=null) but the sim could not start again because the sp nedded to be non-null...

I have an issue with adding a reset button to my drag and drop movie clips.The problem is, if a student drags a movie clip to a wrong location on the SWF file I want them to be able to hit a reset button that would take them the same SWF that they opened and what would showup would a clear page for them to restart their drag and drop exercise.I know how to make the button for this just want the proper action script to be able for user to start over with no movie clip symbols on the page.

I've tried setting up the TextFormat and createTextField as a function that's called on the onRelease handler. I've tried dropping the whole frackin' code in the onRelease function for each button. Neither approach works. I've been digging around on the web, looking for answers, and nothing seems to solve my problem.
I have a code that creates 10 dynamic text fields, along the "y" axis, based on a loop.
What I want to happen is, for each text field that is created, i want the numbers to constantly change based on a timer (they'll all change at the same time, but to random numbers).
Right now, the code below changes the numbers, but keeps stacking the new numbers on top of the old...

Basically I want to get the text fields in my Flash translated. To achieve this, I have the translations in a XML file and all text fields are dynamic. I read the XML (dependent on a language calling parameter from the HTML) and set the text fields like:
this["text_1"].text = "Hello";
The "text_1" and "Hello" are of course retrieved from the XML and I use variables in my code.
Now to the problem: I can successfully set the text field, that is visible in the Frame 1 (where my script is executed), but setting text fields that appear later give me an error. Translated it means something like Null Pointer not accessible. So I assume, that the this["text_x"] can not be found.
Is there a way to access it without copying the script into each text element? I have also thought about events, e.g. when the text is shown the first time and I do the translation then (would have to cache the XML at startup then to save time), but didn't find anything.

I have a linked movieclip that contains two textfields.One of the textfields needs to have regular and bold text, so I thought I would use htmlText however it's only showing the regular font that I embedded?I made the textfield in Flash and called it "details".I also tried to make another textField in the symbol called, "invisi" and I set it not visible:invisi.visible = false;I embedded the BOLD version of the font in the invisi textfield, hoping this would make the "details" text field show the bold font...but no luck.

my client reports to me that some of the text is being clipped off in the text fields. I try to recreate the problem on my pc with chrome and firefox, but everything works fine. But he sends me screenshots from his mac with firefox, and sure enough they are being clipped. i've tried using createTextField() but you can only make 1 textfield if you give it a different instance name everytime you then should be able to make more but they just disappear.
I'm trying to populate a set of dynamic text fields with text using a for() loop and cant seem to get it to work.I have 9 seperate dynamic text boxes each labled picNum0 - picNum8. I want to read a number of pictures from an external file then have those numbers populate 1 through 9 into the text fields.I get the variables loaded in with the correct values but the text fields wont populate.[code]When I trace(curPic) inside the for(){} it outputs: picNum0 - picNum8, so I know that the variables are allocating ok, but dynamic text fields arent populating with the correct numbers.

I got 1 button.A movie with containts 3 graphics , graph1 , graph2 , graph3 Each graphic contains a Dynamic Text field. So I have text scrolling in a dynamic text box. Buttons control it's movement, up and down with (scroll --) and (scroll ++). Let's say I read to the bottom of this text, and then load a new file into this same box. When I do this, the new text is scrolled to the bottom. My Question: How do I reset the scrolled position back to the top for each new file that I load??
