ActionScript 2.0 :: Stop A GotoAndPlay() From Being Called?

I have a MovieClip.gotoAndPlay() statement in my code, but for some reason there is a chance that the statement will be completely ignored. When it's ignored, my movie acts as if the statement was never there, and I can't see a pattern in when my movie ignores the gotoAndPlay(). It seems like it just doesn't gotoAndPlay() when it feels like it.Anything that might stop a gotoAndPlay() from being called?

I thought I had a handle on the timer class (even just a beginners understanding), but I'm having trouble with it.I have an event listener for the timer and it starts fine i get a delay, then a tween,but when I place a myTimer.stop();in the fuction the listener called (to stop it) it dosent stop.it will repeat placing the first image, and then call the first function again

......Wait its placing the first image in (a couple of lines before the start), so Its restarting the whole movie, not just the function?

Actionscript 3 :: GotoAndPlay Causing Immense Lag, Even Though It's Only Being Called Once?

I am creating a game, in AS3, in Flash CS4, with Adobe AIR. The game has gotten too large and complex for me to share the full thing on here, but I will try to explain my problem.

The background of my game is animated water, and it is a symbol separate of the game character and the other entities in the game. When the character performs certain tasks, the water animation needs to jump to a certain frame. This should be really easy:

water_background.gotoAndPlay(the_frame); However, this for some reason is causing a lot of lag, regardless of the machine I use it on. Right when the gotoAndPlay fires off, there is about a 700 millisecond delay where everything freezes up, and then when it comes out of it, all the animations already have completed and the water is playing from the appropriate frame, however the user misses all the pretty animation because the game freezes during it.

I've been trying to figure this out for hours. I've googled everything I could think of and have yet to find an answer.

On a recent project I am working on, I created an event-based sound engine. Different components within Flex will be registered, and then the controller will listen to events and handle the information correctly. So, it just takes a custom SoundEvent or ChannelEvent to alter one of the channels, or play a sound.
 
I can not quite figure out what is wrong with my code, and I am finding myself snow-blind to the issue at hand. At first, I was going to rewrite it but I figured it would be better to learn from my mistake. Also, I realize that this is not correct for streaming sounds, but I am working off a local sound library until I get it up and running smoothly.

I created a movie with several nested movie clips. within these movies are stop actions to prevent the clips from playing at the wrong time. I created the gotoAndPlay/stop functions to play these clips at certain points of the animation. Now at first these actions worked smoothly and exactly as i wanted, however after several test movies, some of the gotoandplay/stop functions stoped working. Has ne 1 ever ecounterd this problem is there a way repair these actions without recreating the whole movie? i tried rewritting the scripts and still does not work.

Stop Movie Then GotoAndPlay On Mouse Click

I have a presentation which is one movie clip in one frame on the main timeline. The movie clip has quite a lengthy timeline. What I need to do is stop the movie at a frame then play on mouse click and in some cases gotoandplay, then stop again. There are no other movie clips inside the main movie clip and I want there to be no buttons. Just proceed to the next bit on mouse click.

I have a .fla file that consists of four images that appear, pause a few seconds, and disappear in sequence. Each image has an associated button that links to a different url. There are also four navigation buttons, should someone want to jump to a particular one of the images. My problem is, the navigation buttons use a gotoAndStop action to take the user to a specific frame. After one of those buttons is clicked, the buttons that link to the urls no longer work. They all work fine until a gotoAndStop action is called. The navigation buttons continue to work.

I am new to ActionScript 3.0. I am trying to create a button that will jump ahead to a specific frame, let the animation run, and then stop before reaching a specific frame. I have the first part working:

Once I get to frame 25, the animation will start. But I want to stop the animation at frame 49. How would I do this?

I'm trying to get a quick replay command, "pressing space returns the scene to the previous frame".

The current function returns me to a previous frame (40), however the event does not stop, rather it keeps on adding new events ontop of each other once it returns to main frame. The main frame being where the actionscript is executed.

I have a slideshow that is looped ... it contains 5 slides.I am using a gotoandPlay action to control the slide show.

There is a fade transition between slides.When a button is released ... I want to gotoandPlay (frame 98) ... and then have it stop 10 frames later on (frame 108). Frame 98 includes the transition ... if I just gotoandStop on frame 108 ... I loose the transition.Is there any way to incorporate a stop action, after a gotoandPlay action on my button ... without naming instances etc.I.E.

I want to load an external swf called 'signs.swf' into an empty mc called 'signholder'.

Everything works. Cool. But, I now want to target something within the signs.swf. How do I do it though? What is the path? Do I have to give the child of signholder an instance name? Everything I try fails.

I have a wordpress based site that stores information about an image in a database field called "background" in a table called "wp_postmeta".The 'loader' gets an url such as "/thisImage/background.swf"The "background.swf" should somehow display "background.jpg" instead but since I've changed the field name in the database (from background to temp_background) it doesn't work.I pass variables to the "loader" swf and they are correct based on the new field name but it still isn't working.I need to know if there is anything in the .fla's (and therefore the .swfs) that is pointing to somewhere in the database hard-coded. Basically I need someone to look at them and tell me how they are working.

I have a contact form for which I have a tween. That contact form consists of two keyframes, first the form, I tried putting the code stop(); in the first keyframe but it didn't stop. I then changed stop(); to _root.stop();, which didn't work either. I have to stop it because otherwise users would see a thank you note before they even enter their details. What can I do? I just got Flash CS3. I'm trying to get my main timeline to stop in the begining, on button press to play and at the end stop again. In AS2, you would just put stop(); on the first keyframe and stop(); on the last key frame and program your buttons accordingly.

The stop(); does not work!!!! It's driving me crazy. What am I missing? I've gone through the tutorials in Flash and they don't work either.Also, if you have MovieClip that contains an animation and you don't want the movie clip to be on a continuous loop how do you stop it from playing. In AS2, I would put a stop(); on the last keyframe of the movieclip's animation. This also does not work in AS3.
