I am having trouble referencing dynamically generated textfield in a document class. I gives me the assigned name when traced, but generates an error when I refer to the name. Here are the documents:

basically, this is a menu with a scrollPane and clips inside for each line.I have to colorise the line if it is the current line.here is the code :

View 3 RepliesI have a dynamically generated swfs with text fields in a html page which have to be printed/have pdfs made from them. The text is virtually unreadable when printed. I have tried setting the sharpness settings on the text fields to highest, rendering the text fields as bitmaps, nothing seems to improve them. Is it possible to get text to print as clear from swf in html page as from plain html text? I have seen the PrintJob class in as3 but this seems to relate to only one swf at a time. Is there possibly a way to use this for highres printing?

the variable nextX places a new button every given number of pixels, in this case 140px. What I'll like to do is to make this value dynamic so that a new button is placed taking into account the width of the preceding button, plus a certain number of pixels.

I have a TextField on the stage in my main .fla file named loadPercent.
I'm loading a jpg with preLoad.as and displaying the bytes loaded in loadPercent.
I can access my loadPercent TextField from my MainClass
but I can't access it from preLoad.as
the document class is MainClass.as

I get three '#1120 access of undefined propery' errors for each time i try to access loadPercent.
a few basic questions: 1. all my files are in a folder in my documents, not in the flash directory, is this bad? I've seen people using com.whatever etc.
2. my main .fla file does not share the same name as my MainClass.as (it's not named MainClass.fla) Is that a problem?
I'm assuming these are inconsequential because my code seems to work up to a certain point.
This is for AIR: My document class imports a separate class "ConnMonitor" and uses it to constantly monitor the network connection. It's at the very end of that class where it's supposed to update a textfield on the stage as the connection changes, but the class can't access the textfield.

The custom class object gets created fine and is displaying on the stage. It's also holding custom properties I set as well.
How do I control the dynamic textfield inside the MC, which is inside the custom class object?

I'm working on font embedding in Flash (flas are compiled using CS5 made previously in CS3). The project is split into a number of separate flas, and I'm having trouble with one particular one. I'm dynamically embedding the fonts using a class I wrote that sits on top of the stage listening for Event.ADDED then searching for textfields that have dynamic text and embedding the font needed dynamically (No efficiency requirements here. I have a check so that I don't bother processing textfields that are already embedded. No textfields in any of the flas (to my knowledge) have fonts embedded.
But some textfields are saying that they are, as in
textfield.embedFonts == true.
In the fla global font embedding, that no fonts are embedded. If I click on the actual textfields embed button, I see that the font of the textfield is in the font list, but no character ranges are embedded. This is leaving me confused, as I want absolutely no fonts embedded in any flas. But the font for the individual textfield is always in the font embed list, no matter how many times I remove it. If I click on the embed button for the textfield to check it there is no embedding then the font is added to the list without any character ranges.
The code I'm building creates two MovieClips on the stage, in one it instantiates several text boxes and in the other some buttons.
What I can't do is access data from the text boxes (e.g. textField.text) for use in the functions called by the eventListeners attached the buttons. I had the system all working nicely before I placed the text boxes and the buttons on separate movie clips.but this structure makes it much tidier to refresh the text I'm using.The button functions are fine with variables created prior to the building of the text boxes.
Am I failing to address the text boxes correctly (because they're on another movie clip) or is there a stage / movie clip property I need to set so they can see each other ... or is this something else altogether?Could it be that the buttons are created before the text boxes?

I have an external swf file 'testSWF'loaded into a UILoader 'myLoader2'. The external swf has a textfield 'myText'. I want to retrieve the text from this external swf textfield into another textfield 'parentTextField' in my parent flash file. I can't work out how to do it, and I can't find a simple example.

TextField inherits from InteractiveObject which is kind of heavy for what I want to do: just display text (i.e. I don't want to interact with the text).
Note: I'm aware that there is a property selectable to make the textfield not selectable. This is not the point.

There are about 5 different things that the sender can customize, as well as write a message. The goal is to have their choices sent to a database and then inserting those variables when the receiver watches the movie.Now, instead of creating possibly thousands of XML files (one for each sender), we decided it would be better to just generate the XML on the fly from the info in the db. But my question is, how do I handle loading that XML? Since this won't just be a static page on the server, I'm not sure how to go about it. I'm wondering if you can use variables when loading XML, for example:

I've been trying to write AS3 that can read xml which is dynamically generated by php.i've generated the xml in several ways all of which seem to work but i keep getting the error,Error #1088: The markup in the document following the root element must be well-formed,when i try to load the xml into flash. however the xml (as viewed when you go to "view source" in your browser) is indeed well formed.i have 4 versions of the php.the first just uses echo. the second uses echo but i wrap it in {start_ob(),ob_end_flush()}; then i use simpleXML and finally i use domdocument.[code]
View 6 RepliesI am creating a text input control on top of the native TextField class. I am trying to make the input text field itself behave in such a way that hitting Enter when focused and typing, instead of adding a line feed, produces a kind of "submit" event from my control, clearing the "submitted" text input. The described above works quite well. My problem is that I currently rob the users of my control the simple line-feeding ability - instead of a line-feed, a "submit" event is dispatched.
Obviously my control is designed for sending text rapidly, but it is also multiline so I want people to also be able to insert newlines. Think of this as a chat text input control. What I thought about is, somehow capture Shift+Enter and make it behave as Enter usually does. This has proven to be absolutely impossible, and I know a thing or two about Flash Player.
Part of the problem is, Shift+Enter by default does not itself produce a newline (even though pretty much everything else that types in any OS, does) and I cannot patch the event - f.e. by setting 'shiftKey' property to false at capture phase so that the event moves on as if Enter was pressed instead. How to do this, sort of replicating a TextField entirely down to a caret and all?
I have a movieclip that I am adding to the stage dynamically. The movieclip has to be placed at specific coordinates to match the current text field.The coordinates that show on the INFO tab are x=264 and y= 365. However, in order to get the movieClip to match those I have to set x to 398 and y to 200.If I set the coordinates to those in the INFO tab then the movieclip does not show; it appears off stage.

I'm currently reading in data from an XML file. Each attribute of a child is assigned as a property of a movieclip as shown in the code attached. However, what i'd like to do is not have the property names already decided as i don't necessarily know how many attributes a child in the xml file will have. Is it possible to dynamically name the properties depending on what number attribute they are...?
