ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding Text To A Symbol Dynamically?
Aug 31, 2009
I alreay have the symbol (mySymbol) in the library.I want to add some test to it dynamically (to write something on it).So when I call this symbol on the stage (create an instance in AS3), it comes modified with the test.
I was asked to create a flash product configurator:
1) true 3D visualization of the product (not perspective)
2) customization by the user to add uploaded images and texts to the product and styling text as he wants applying font e color. I have doubts about adding text and images to a 3D object and render them on the fly.
3) and optionally, save that configuration for a successive editing or to propose last saved model to other users. For this I thought to save the 3D clip as a file and then reload it.
Is this achievable flash AS3? If yes, can I use some 3D flash library like Sandy 3D?
What I'm trying to do is create a Simple Trivia Game by making the MovieClips and adding the text from the database (MySQL). Here's part of my code that I have working:
ActionScript Code: private function displayAnswersText() { select1MC.x = 50;
[code]....
what I like to be able to do is have it where I could just have the movieClip be selectable by the mouse. However when I try the following:
I have a game where i add some cartoonish ants, that when they are clicked, they need to be removed from stage. There are 4 differend kinds of ants, so im doing a Math.random for picking which one to add. (ant 1+2+3 have 50% chance to spawn and 4th 50%)
Code: rnd_nbr = (Math.random() * 5)+1;
I have a timer doing 10 tick, and i reset the timer to make neverending. Then i have a math random and if sentences adding mc' to the stage with movement from Tweener, and event listeners for clicks. But i cant figure out how to remove them when clicked. I have done alot of failed tries right inside the click_candy_anty function. I've left them commented out.
Code: import caurina.transitions.Tweener; var ant_index:Array = new Array(10);//index for ants var ant_number:int;
I know this is one of the most basic things, but I am having trouble adding an instance of a symbol to the stage with action script in Flash CS4. I have a "fireball" symbol and at the beginning of my code I say: var myFireball:MovieClip = new fireball; addChild(myFireball); But it says : "1180: Call to a possibly undefined method fireball."
i am currently trying to write code, so if i enter a value into a textbox it will move a symbol up and down the screen according to the value. I was using the method of removing the child at for example removeChildAt(1) then deleting it and re adding it in a different place. But for some reason as i have 10 symbols and textboxes it kept deleting random things. So i decided to try remove child by name, but this still hasn't worked.[code]
I've created a button (symbol), and added a OVER state, which covers a bigger boundary than the UP state. However when I add the symbol/button to my stage, the roll over activates on any area covered by the over state, where I only really need it covering the UP state boundary. Any way of clipping the region covered, so mouse over is only triggered by the boundaries of the UP state.
For some reason I can't add ActionScript actions to a timeline frame within a Button Symbol, like I normally would with MovieClip symbols or on the stage. The Actions panel shows this message:"In ActionScript 3.0, code cannot be placed directly on objects. Please select a frame..."even though I definetely have a frame selected.
EDIT: Screenshot as requested. As you can see, a frame is clearly selected...
I added a button symbol to a movie clip in a Flash 8 project, and the button works. OnPress it redirects to a web site.However, the animation in the movie clip becomes diabled. I get the same effect regardless of where the button is placed, e.g. scene1 timeline, movie clip, etc.
I have a motion tween that adds effect to a Symbol of type Graphic. My question is this:How can I change the graphic dynamically? I want to change the graphic to one inside my xml file. I am reading through my xml file fine, I just need to know how I can take the url to my new image and put it into my symbol.
This is a very basic question. I'm rather new. Just wondering how one creates and manipulates dynamic objects, when they were designed in the library- not dynamically.
I want to make symbols in the library (linked to classes) and then dynamically create them and manipulate them in the actionscript code. But when I create them in the code, any instance names of sub-symbols cannot be referenced...
The instance name is "instance244" and not "leaf_text" which I set under [properties>instance name]
i have 2 layers, called typer layer and plain layer... on the plain layer i have drawn out a shape... like a circle for instance.... if plain layer is on top of typer layer everything works fine. if plain layer is below typer layer the typer does not type.... it doesnt even show up. at present the dynamically created text field into which the typing text will be put into has a depth equivalent to that of a guide inside the component (just a plain mc used for determining sizes etc nothing special) +1 i added 1 to its current depth because if i dont i only seem to get EITHER the circle OR the typer.... whereas if i add 1, i get EITHER the typer AND the circle OR just the circle..but this doesnt make sense does it? i mean if the typer layer is on top then it has a higher depth (ie. closer to zero as depths are currently in the negatives still ) so if i add 1 it shouldnt conflict with anything and i should get it typing and displaying the circle surely?and if it is below then the circle has a higher depth so in this respect if the typer wouldnt work when it is on the bottom i could understand this as the depths would be conflicting and as such the dynamically created text field couldnt be created in the first place because the depth level is already occupied....
im building a full as anything text-typing-component... easily modified and adapted etc...one problem however... i came across a depth issue in testing.... its a little peculiar so you will have to bear with me... i have 2 layers, called typer layer and plain layer... on the plain layer i have drawn out a shape... like a circle for instance.... if plain layer is on top of typer layer everything works fine. if plain layer is below typer layer the typer does not type.... it doesnt even show up....
the idea is to create a loop to that displays 16 cards face down in two rows and eight columns using either a "for" loop or "while" loop, execute 16 times once for each clip.use new to dynamically create card instances based on the Movie Clip symbol in the library.use a modulo operator to operate the x position of each clip use Math.floor to operate the y position of each clip set dynamic text value of the card clip to show appropriate card number add card to the display list if using the iteration variable ("while" loop).this is what i am using and i get one card (the stack of 16) in the bottom left hand corner with a 16 trace statements of "instance 2"
//create variable for number of columns var numberOfColumns=8; // requirement 1
I have created some graphic symbols from text (convert to symbol>>graphic), and when I double click them (in the editor), they remain text. Others from several month ago seem to remain symbols when double-clicked. The other thing I have noticed is some of my buttons have bulls-eye type circles on top of them, while new ones I create have an empty black circle. All the new ones I created do not seem to work properly, and I am wondering why this is by working backwards.
I have created a basic symbol with dynamic text, so that I may have many of the same symbol and script the text that shows up on the symbol. When I have the text box in a horizontal orientation the text shows up in my animation but when I turn it into a vertical orientation my text does not show up. Unfortunately I need the symbols to have vertical text.
I am still using flash MX. I'm pulling random text from a textfile (array.txt) into movieclip instance textbox.[code]All is good, but now my question is if I can have a text effect as well. For example having the random quotes typed out as they appear.
I'm creating receives xml from the asp server its on.Because of this, there isn't an xml file that I can open and add to in the places I need carriage returns.To compensate for this, I've been using the split and join method.[code]Essentially I'm looking for certain nodes in the xml and adding a carriage return to the beginning of it.I had to add the extra quotes around the otherwise it doesn't work.The problem with this is, the carriage return works but it leaves the single quotes in the text.I tried adding another split join method that looks for the single quotes left and replaces them with nothing.The problem with this is, it deletes all the single quotes from the contractions.
I am loading Images from xml , images are adding to xml dynamically in PHP.if flash is unable to load one image it stops all the Images from showing what should I do , if one image got stuck , the Flash keep showing other images and BYPASS that element of Xml everytime ?
I'm querying the Rotten Tomatoes API for Upcoming Movies. For each movie returned, I'm creating an instance of MovieIcon (MC). I'm then adding this MC as a child of a Container MovieClip that's already on the scene. Each time, I'm incrementing the xPosition of each MovieIcon MC such that, they're positioned next to each other.My container MC has a mask applied to it, therefore any child objects that are positioned beyond the size of the mask, they're are hidden from view. How can I dynamically add a tween/easing animation between all these MovieIcon MC's so that when I hover over the Container MC, it 'scrolls' left or right, depending on the mouse motion?
Here's what I want to accomplish, I'm doing a listing of all the shows done by my band, I've written all the info into a XML file ( date, location, venue, info and a URL to get to the gig ) and I made a MovieClip with 4 field text to display the information.
So far I can read the XML file, I can addChild my MovieClip they stack neatly in a column to the stage...my problem is, after that, I don't know how to refer to them on the stage to get the url link that I've written in my XML file....here is my AS.
Pascal //--- load the gig info --- var xmlgig:XML; var showlist:XMLList;
I'm trying to create a portfolio with ten images that I needto be loaded and added on the stage.The problem i not to load theese images or adding themdirectlyt on the stage, but I want them to be added inside a thumbthat I've created as a movieclip.I've also created a for...loop so the thumbs dynamically areadded on the stage. To access them I've given them an instance-nameusing [object].name = "[name]" and I've also created an Array tokeep track of the names.
I have an XML file with a list of photos. I have loaded the XML file into Flash (CS3 / AS 3.0) and I am iterating through the list to load the photos. The problem is only the last photo displays. I would like to load each photo and then create a movie and "copy" the loaded content into the movie clip. Here is my code:
I am dynamically adding columns based on values received from an array. The columns are getting generated properly.But the problem is when I try to insert values for each column, I have to specify each column name in the addItem function.So the addItem function accepts only hardcore values which match my column names --- but it does not accept dynamic column names.Since it does not accept dynamic column names, it can't populate appropriate values related to each column.scoreBoardData is the instance name of my DataGrid component
Here's the code: import fl.controls.dataGridClasses.DataGridColumn; var obj:Object = {"systime":1323323297534,"id":1,"dest":"123234","source":"1983","ack"
I am reading in collection objects from an XML file. Each collection has an img field that stores a URL to the collection image. So I am trying to load the images of each collection, storing each image in a MovieClip, and add these MovieClips to the stage. However, my problem is that after adding a MovieClip (with the collection image) to the stage, when a new MovieClip is created in my 'for each' loop it overrites the previous MovieClip. So the images I am adding to the stage are being replaced by the following collection's image on each loop iteration. What can I do to avoid this?
I'm trying to make a quiz in flex and am loading data from an xml file. For each question I want to create a radiobuttongroup so I can associate radio buttons to it. How can I accomplish that with actionscript? I can see that addChild method works for DisplayObjects and I presume that radiobuttongroup is not one because I'm receiving errors. How can I dynamically add radiobuttongroup with actionscript in flex application?
generally, how i work involves designing all of my graphics in Flash Authoring, converting them to Sprite symbols by changing the base class to flash.display.Sprite, give my instances names and finally export them to ActionScript.the approach actually permits me to dynamically create properties in code on my Sprite instances that i've exported to ActionScript, just as if they were instances of MovieClips. i'm not entirely sure why i'm able to do this, but i can. in polling the objects to make sure of their superclass, they are indeed Sprites and not MovieClips.however, as expected, if i program a new sprite from scratch in code and try to dynamically add a property to the new programmed sprite a compile time error will result.
So I want a dialog box (this is the movieclip) to pop up when I click a button and then go away when I click another button. This is what I came up with...
ActionScript Code: eyebtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,popUp); function popUp(event:MouseEvent):void
