ActionScript 3.0 :: Altering Drawn At Authoring-time At Runtime Graphics?
Feb 13, 2009
Is it possible to access the graphics.* - characteristics of objects that I have drawn at authoring-time at runtime? If I have drawn a single line in a movieclip I'd like to do sth like this:
Is it possible in Flash 8 accessing from the linkage class, associated to a component, the graphics elements (for instance, a standard UI component, like a tree or a comboBox) that are on the movieclip this class refers to?
Lets say I have a customMovieClip. I sometimes draw an ellipse with customMovieClip.graphics and sometimes a rectangle. Now I want to know what was the shape ( ellipse/rect) that was created using a particular graphics object. Doing this would enable me to pinpoint what exactly to do with that customMovieClip() instance.
Is it possible to edit vector drawings made in Flash (and in the FLA's library) within Actionscript? For instance, to change the line width or line color?

I have an application that creates a chart dynamically. This chart has a lot of information plotted on it (4-6 stock trends). I want to be able to toggle some of those lines with a button. Each trend is drawn with something like this:
Code: // establish a new Vector object for the commands parameter var line_commands:Vector.<int> = new Vector.<int>(); line_commands.push(1,2,2,2); // establish a new Vector object for the data parameter var line_coord:Vector.<Number> = new Vector.<Number>(); // use the Vector array push() method to add a set of coordinate pairs line_coord.push(0,0, 75,50, 100,0, 125,50); graphics.drawPath(line_commands, line_coord);
How would I toggle the line I just drew? My first idea would be to put some of this code inside a function and redraw the line with the same color of the movie's background color. I don't know if this is the best option, I was wondering if I could draw this line inside a Sprite or Movie Clip and just toggle its visibility?
I'm using Flash CS3 to build a simple drawing application. When the user clicks a button, they select a particular movieclip. After clicking elsewhere on the stage, the clip is instantiated and added to the stage at the position of the cursor. I've also added the option of being able to click on the added clip and drag it around on the screen. And this all works fine.
The problem is that I also want to be able to dynamically draw and add objects to the stage via the Graphics class. Whenever I add objects in this manner, their x and y coordinates are always 0,0 no matter where I place them on the stage. This makes positioning these graphics very very problematic. I created a modified positioning function specifically for these dynamically drawn graphics and while it does "work", it feels less responsive than the positioning for movieclip objects. I'm still trying to optimize this function, but it seems to me that the ideal solution is for the graphics to have non-zero coordinates when placed in the middle of the stage like movieclip objects. Is there some "workaround" to achieve this?
I am trying to draw a line from x1, y1 to x2,y2 and i want it to be a line that repeats a pattern from an image. All I can see is that you can only draw lines and change their color or thickness but I would like it to repeat an image. Is that possible or do i have to use a really long and thin rectangle with a bitmap fill?The problem is I am making a game where the user will be able to actually draw the line so i have to make it be created dynamically. The game fantastic contraption [URL] has in the game a feature where you draw lines of any length and position that are filed with a picture.
I'm in the middle of a AS3 project and I'm stuck.In my class I'm trying to control the render speed of imported swf file.I would like to make this file play single frame and then decide when to go to the next one.Can it be done without changing the external file?
with a "small" problem:I can't seem to duplicate or clone a mc created at runtime, with a child mc inside, which is attached at runtime... Here is my file:
I'm trying to use fl.controls.Button under Flash CS3 to replace some "classic" custom button symbols with resizable ones with a consistent look and feel. However, I want to apply an icon to the button when authoring the layout of a particular frame on the timeline - but the only way I can see to set the icon style on a button is at runtime with myButton.setStyle(). Is there no way to customise style properties of AS3 Components when authoring on the stage, such that the preview in the IDE vaguely matches the end result? The 'Properties' inspector only provides 'emphasized', 'label', 'labelPlacement', 'selected' and 'toggle' inspectable properties - how do I assign style information at authoring-time?
I've created a complicated animation at a stupidly high frame rate. The .mov file at the moment just runs too slowly. The animation is of a watch interface so the timing is very important and I can't just have the movie file take twice as long at a lower frame rate.
How can I drop the frame rate without altering the overall time? and without manually changing the frame length of each motion tween?
I am working on a interactivity wherien i draw lines using a pen/pencil just as in MsPaint application in Microsoft. Ia m done with the pencil/ pen tool and its working fine but I basically want to change the thickness of the line at runtime by using a slider functionality.
I have an actions layer, a sound layer and an image layer. I put one image from the library onto the image layer and all I see is the border. When I test the movie the image is visible. This just started suddenly. What is going on? Flash CS4.
I've seen the Loom project, but are there any alternatives that are more mature (and actively developed)? I am looking for something that would allow load-time weaving of pointcuts into existing binary code at runtime with the AVM2 runtime.
I have made an input text filed in frame 2 (made at authoring time) and populated a variable with it i.e var g_nameEntry: String; g_nameEntry = nameField_txt.text; and now have performed the concactenation with this variable in the Frame 4 i.e loserField_txt.text = "Sorry" +g_nameEntry where loserField_txt is another dynamic field created at authoring time in Frame4. However this is not working.
I've built a UIComponent in AS3. When I drag it onto the stage during authoring time, the ADDED_TO_STAGE event fires.
I have an event handler, but it's really only meant to perform actions at runtime, not when I'm dropping the component onto the stage to design the layout. Is there any way to check to see if the component is "running" in a live SWF?
Basically, I don't want the ADDED_TO_STAGE event handler to do anything at design time.
I have four dynamic text field created at the authoring time in Frame-4. I just need them to be placed randomly every time when I come from Frame3. I have known that there is a Math Class which generates random numbers which would be an effective way. how do I proceed ahead i.e shall I create an array and seed it with the their current positions etc etc
I'd like to know if there is any way or any vector graphic file format that i can load dynamically at runtime on a web-based flash application.I have some files in pdf that i want to load in and i can convert them to jpgs at runtime and load the jpgs but then i lose vector graphics so when i zoom in and out they become pixelated.
I had a look a look at flashpaper to convert pdf to swf and load them in but i can't see anywhere in the documentation about converting the pdf's at runtime rather than manually dragging and dropping them in.So far i've looked at pdf, svg and .ai but none of these can be loaded at run time just imported into the .So can this be done? Or alternatively is there an application that can do the pdf -> swf conversion from the commandline then i could trigger php to do the conversion at runtime.
i've developed an cross-platform AIR application, which seriously under performs on mobile devices caused by animating/using vector graphics instead of bitmap assets. employing cacheAsBitmapMatrix / cacheAsBitmap is better, when and where assigned appropriately, but still not as fast as using bitmap assets.
i've attempted to bitmapData.draw() the vector graphics to a Bitmap object at runtime and animate the bitmap object instead, but this performs only about as well as (or maybe even exactly the same as) simply caching the vector graphic as a bitmap.
Flash Professional 5.5 UI now has the ability to convert a vector graphic into a bitmap assets, but is it possible to do this at runtime? is it possible to have an actual Rasterize() routine to convert programatically drawn vector graphics and maybe even editable text into bitmaps at runtime for optimal animated performance, especially on mobile devices?
Internally Flash obviously keeps a list of the primitives drawn using Graphics so I wondered if you have many such primitives in a Sprite, can you re-position/remove/alter individual items rather than clear and re-draw everything? Or is this deeper into the bowels of Flash than you're allowed (or recommended) to go?
What options are available for recording a graphics intensive SWF as a video format such as MOV, MPEG, or others. I have created an interactive SWF and would like to capture video of it so that I can share it in different formats. I have used some free screen capture software before, but am not sure it is the best choice since maintaining the frame rate is important. Worst case scenario, I could just eliminate user interaction and automate the input...
The code below is used to create one rectangle at a time when a button pressed. But they are randomly placed on the screen. I was trying to drag each and place each rectangle in a desired location on screen. But when I drag a rectangle (startDrag) with MouseDown ONLY THE FIRST CREATED RECTANGLE IS MOVED AND NOT OTHER RECTANGLES.
var i = 0 function newRectangle(x1,y1){ var r:MovieClip = this.createEmptyMovieClip("rectangles"+i, (i+2));
I can access this variable if I "hardcode" it into my codebase, as so: public static const PLUGIN_COMPILED_TIME:String = NAMES::PluginCompileTime; However, I would like to be able to do this at runtime using something like getDefinitionByName(): var value:* = flash.utils.getDefinitionByName("NAMES::PluginCompileTime"); This throws the following error: ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable PluginCompileTime is not defined. Does anyone know of a way to accomplish loading a compile-time constant in a namespace at runtime?
I am new to Flex and trying to modify some existing code.I am trying to It uses and Advanced DataGrid. In the click event, the ListEvent is passed in, and the code is able to access properties such as event.itemRenderer.data.feature.I would like to check whether the user has clicked on a parent (group) record or the child record; at runtime, I can see that the property I want to access is event.itemRenderer.listData.hasChildren. However, the listData property of itemRenderer does not show up in intellisense, and when I try to access that at design time, the project will not build because of the error "Access of possibly undefined property listData". But the property .data.feature doesn't show up in intellisense at design time either, and that builds and runs just fine.
What do I need to do to access event.itemRenderer.listData without throwing errors when I build the project? Do I need to capture a different event, or cast the event object or one of its properties into another object that will have the properties I need at runtime (I've investigated these options but cannot find info on how to do that).
flash builder 4 comes with a couple of cool spark themes, and there are tons of others out there on the web, I want to be able to change the theme at runtime, without recompiling.
