View 2 RepliesI currently have text fields that read data in from an xml file. Previously i used default font (times new roman) and the punctuation displayed fine. I have since tried to move to Arial (textformat.font = "Arial" and setting embed font to true in the txtboxes) which does not display any punctuation. Is there a function to allow this or is it more complex?
View 3 RepliesI'm fairly new to Flash (over the last few months I have followed Actionscripting in books and online tutorials and can do basics by essentially following the recipes, but am having considerably more problems putting it all together for my own program).
I am trying to create a program for my students that will take their text input in fields like author, title, publisher, date, place of publication, etc. and output bibliography citations in the proper format (complete with punctuation). What is the best way to handle the text formatting to add punctuation and make the citation entries? Your text tutorial on color and other properties is very good, as well as the input text that returns the words, but how do I go one more step to add my punctuation to the user's input?

If i have two or more input boxes to create a crossword puzzle, how can i make the cursor automatically jump to the second input box after the first input box is filled with a character?
View 3 RepliesIf I make a text box inside a fla, then publish, the swf size will be KB.But if I use character embedding in the text box, and embed Chinese, then the swf size will be MB.Is there a way to use a shared library to do the character embedding? BTW, the text box need to be changed at runtime.
View 1 RepliesThis is a rather advanced problem but apparently I'm not the only one having it.So far I've been using external font loading in all my projects. A Tahoma.swf with a Tahoma Font library item and basically two lines of code:ActionScript Code:import flash.text.Font;Font.registerFont(TahomaSmooth);As soon as I load the font in my application it's ready for use. This is Jesse Freeman's method, in case it looks familiar.The problem is Flash CS4 doesn't embed polish fonts. And clients dnt lke t read tet that hs mssng chrcters. Unfortunately for anyone who isn't english Adobe didn't forsee that people might actually want to specify the character set when embeding Fonts. This strikes me as odd, as supposedly the whole font was supposed to be imported, at least that's how it originally worked, AFAIK.
View 9 RepliesI installed CS5 and opened an old .fla which did not embed the Arial font because everyone has it already. Mostly it is used for user-entered and dynamic content.However, CS5 is auto-embedding the few characters I use in Arial, and all of the other characters are no longer showing up in the swf file.The only fix seems to be embedding the entire Arial font in the movie, which is too large since I want to be able to support all kinds of characters.Is there a way to turn off auto-font embedding?This feature seems well-intentioned but critically flawed if it can't be turned off.
View 1 RepliesIs there any ways to use input fields without embedding the font to minimize .swf file weight?
View 1 Repliesi'm looking for a way to capture key press based on the character pressed. using KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN has some problems: i can use String.fromCharCode works for letters only (and have to do capitalization manually using shiftKey boolean) but it doesn't work for other characters. the keycode for - (hyphen) is the same as for _ (underscore), for example, and fromCharCode returns the 1/2 (half) symbol.
View 1 Replieshow can I turn every specific word in a textbox to specific color? this works like highlighting if I have the word Jeeves in TextField object, I would like each occurrence of Jeeves in this TextFIeld to become red or any other color In AS2 i had to search the text for keywords and use the TextFormat class. and then handle keypresses for the textbox for highlighting as the user is typing.
View 4 RepliesI would like to replace the ":" for text_field_1 Instead, @ should show up when somebody hits :
Any ideas how to do that in as2?
Maybe something like: if text_field_1 is focused && somebody hits : add an @*to the existing text in field 1.
Or make a loop looks for : in text_field_1 and when it finds one it replaces it with @
But i have no idea how to do that in as2
I'm working on a delivery costing system for my company using postcode input from users
For you non Brits out there UK postcodes work on two blocks of 2-4 characters each.
L2 2HH - Liverpool central
M24 2TN - suburb of Manchester
IV56 7NQ - outter Inverness
You get the idea. So the first part of a UK postcode, wether it be 2 characters or 4 characters MUST have atleast one numeric and one non-numeric character in it. How do I detect this?
At the moment I've just got my CHECK POSTCODE button to run a few functions only if my POSTCODE (input text) field length it greater or equal to 2 characters. So how do I easily detect an input of numeric and non-numerical characters without having to resort to indexOf ...a...b...c...1...2...3...?
I'm working on homework for my scripting class and having some issue with keyboard input (trouble finding advice on anything involving keyboard input as well). The set up is that a function can be called by either clicking a button or using a key (spacebar in this instance). When this is done via the mouse and the button it prevents the function from working again until the "bullet" goes so far off screen.The problem comes from being unable to figure out how to also disable input from the keyboard, or spacebar specifically, to also put that pause inbetween the shots.Quote:
function firingFunction() {
// mark start time
var lastTime:int = getTimer();
[code].......
I saw vinayak.kadam advising someone if they wanted to disable an input box they could do this...
Code:
instanceName_txt.type = "dynamic";
But I want to access my text field through an array...
Code:
lockArr = [box1.lock1,box2.lock1,box3.... etc etc // instance names of button clips
tArr = [box1.field1,box2.field1,box3.... etc etc // instance names of input text field clips
for(var n=0;n!=lockArr.length;n++){
[code]...
so If can I not set the type property of a text field if I'm referencing it through an array?
How can i disable an input text box? What i want to do is once the upload button is clicked the input text box vname_txt and vdesc_txt are disabled. Which mean no text can be changed.

on (release) {
if (input1 == "140" && input2 == "180" && input3 == "140" && input4 == "180" && input5 ==
"640") { //if these values are entered in the input boxes <input1> etc.

View 1 RepliesI have a DateField component in Flex and I want to stop any user input. If I set the editable to "false" then it stops users changed the bits of the DateField box. It does NOT however stop them from clicking on the calendar icon next to it and updating the date. Is it possible to disable this? I basically want the component to be read only under some circumstances but not for it to have any alpha overlay. Therefore I want to use editable rather than enabled.
View 1 Repliesis there a code that will disable key press all together or to focus on just the input box so that i can type with the space key (space is used to pick objects up in game not in use when this menu is open anyway).

View 2 RepliesI'm building a project that has a character navigate through a room by clicking on the floor. Right now, the walls, character, and floor are all children of the same display object for sorting purposes. My question: is there a way to disable mouse clicks to the walls and character while allowing clicks to the floor? Using mouseChildren appears to be an all or nothing deal and I can't seem to isolate individual floor/wall/character objects for use with mouseEnabled.
View 4 RepliesI have encountered strange problem. I have created simple Flash text field control and I wanted to compare its content with some other string. This comparison in triggered when user is pressing the button.In Action Script 2.0 code I noticed that a caret return character () was added at the end of the string coming from the input text field.It is easy to overcome the problem obviously, however I would like to understand what is going on. I use Flash CS4 with AS 2.0.
