ActionScript 3.0 :: Launch New Timer Object When SWF Loaded

May 21, 2009

I am using the basic timer code:
PHP Code:
We need to import the utils packageimport flash.utils.*;// Create a new Timer object with a delay of 2000 ms(2 seconds)var myTimer:Timer = new Timer(2000);myTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, nextListing);// Start the timermyTimer.start();
How do I get the function nextListing to launch immediately instead of waiting 2 seconds when the swf is loaded and then continuing to loop with the Timer?

Flash - Timer Object With TimerEvent.TIMER Event Globally Accessible To All Objects?

Feb 16, 2012

I am working on a very simple game in Flash. I want to make all the animations framerate agnostic, so that I can change the framerate without affecting the flow and speed of the game.I read somewhere that if you want to do that, you simply create a Timer object and attach an event listener to this timer.

What if I have many objects that have to listen to the same timer? See the code to understand what I am trying to do. At this stage nothing breaks, but the event does not fire.Here is the Main class, the one that runs on swf execution:

public class Main extends MovieClip {
private static var _stage:Stage;
private static var _timer:Timer;

ActionScript 2.0 :: [Flash 8] XML/Flash Gallery - Making <launch></launch> Has The Ability To Link To An URL?

Jan 15, 2006

So I read through Kirupa's XML/Flash thumbnail gallery tutorial and have since modified some of its actionscripting to display my online design portfolio. How do I make it so that 'LAUNCH PROJECT' is a link? Here is the modified Actionscripting (I have one of each for the 3 sections):

Code:
function loadXML(loaded) {
if (loaded) {
xmlNode = this.firstChild;[code]....

As you can see at the bottom of the actionscript, I added a gotoURL action, hoping that simply by making <launch> read <launch action="gotoURL" variables="http:url...> that it would become a link. I, however, have had no such luck. Perhaps I have to add something more. How do I make it so that <launch></launch> has the ability to link to an URL?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Object's Timer Notify Another Object?

Apr 15, 2010

I have a game where there is a main application and separate SWC with classes for the objects in the game.

I have one object interacting with a second, where the second object's class has a timer that gets started.  When the timer is up, I need the first object to move on to the next object.

For example, if the first object is a hose and the second object is a bucket, when I move the hose over the bucket I am starting a timer that increments how full the bucket is.  When the bucket is full, I need to have the host move to the next bucket. To make life interesting, there will be a few hoses filling a few buckets, so each bucket needs to tell ITS hose to move on.

For some reason, I am getting myself quite confused about how best to accomplish this.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Stop A Timer In An Externally Loaded Swf?

Jan 21, 2009

I have a project in which the main swf loads another into it. The swf that gets loaded has an xml driven slideshow that runs on a timer. To view what the timer was doing in the output I traced the name of each photo as the timer fired. When I unload the swf I've noticed that though it appears to be gone from the stage the timer continues to fire and the images are listed in the output. I know that I can stop a timer by using

ActionScript Code:
photoTimer.stop();
but I can't figure out how to stop the timer in an externally loaded swf. I'm using this code to remove the swf

ActionScript Code: this.mc_content_box.mc_placeholder.removeChild(contentLoader); I'm worried that the timer may be loading the photos in the background somehow and increasing the workload.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Turning On/off Timer In Externally Loaded SWF From Main SWF

Mar 28, 2010

I want to know if its possible and if so how, to stop the timer in an externally loaded swf from the main swf that's its loaded into.

Just to give a quick basic rundown of the set-up. There is the main swf which via a class called Img loads smaller swfs:

PHP Code:

package {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.display.Bitmap;

[Code].....

The _scr bit is a string which gets passed in that comes from an XML file with the source of the external SWF to load. In the SWF there are some actions that are dependent on a timer. From the main SWF I want to be able to turn the timer on or off.

Do I need to put a addEventListener in the external SWF file?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Killing Timer Of A Child Object?

Inside each of those classes is a timer, set to loop (basically refresh) every 5 seconds.Even after removing the instance from the stage and setting it to null, the timers continue in the background. Is there some way I can stop and remove all the timers with an object when I null it, or do I have to do that manually before removing the object?

The reason I could not use normal ADDED_TO_STAGE at MC and define the center is because MC is not place in the exact position of the root stage (as in x, y=0). So if I would target MC2 at MC stage center, it would not be the exact center of the root stage/screen.How can I called the root stage properties rather than adding MC2 into the stage?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Difference Between Timer.stop() And Timer.reset()?

Aug 27, 2008

What is the difference between Timer.stop() and Timer.reset() functions because it seems that the 2 functions do the same thing? I image Timer.stop() to stop the timer and when Timer.start() is called the timer starts from where it stopped. For example, if I have a 3 sec. timer (3000 ms). If I stop the timer after 2.5 sec. and start the timer again, I would expect the timer to expire/trip within .5 sec.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading Object Is Not Sufficiently Loaded

May 29, 2007

I'm working on a class to track the loading of N objects.In order to do that, I Use a class called Advenced Loader inheriting from flash.display.Loader.I want to be able to listen to the ProgressEvent.PROGRESS but instead of receiving how many bytes have been loaded so far, I want to know how many byes have been loaded since the last PROGRESS event.So, I have the bytesPerProgress property inside the AdvancedLoader class which listens to its contentLoaderInfo object to calculates the bytesPerProgress.Then, inside another class which uses the AdvencedLoader I could do that:[code]

That's where I get an error #2099. It seems that I can't access the Loader instance only until after it completed the loading proccess.What I really need here is (if I could) to change the contentInfoLoader. loader to reference to my AdvancedLoader class instead of the Loader interface which doesn't include my new bytesPerProgress (implicit getter).What I could have done instead is to listen to the PROGRESS event inside the AdvancedLoader and then dispatch new PROGRESS event from within the AdvancedLoader. That's not quite what I thought it would be like, but I can't think of anything else since the contentLoaderInfo is an implicit getter (read only).
