I have a monster_mc that shoots a bullet_mc at a target_mc.When I click the Keyboard.RIGHT the bullet jumps once then hesitates or pauses then continues -=25 pixels, instead of shooting smoothly.Am I missing something here?, can I make it perform better?

I am at uni and have a project to create an interactive game for the story Johnny Mnemonic. I would like to create a game whereby the player has a whip type weapon, there is an opponent jumping up and down and with the whip you attack them and cut off limbs -
I'm thinking it would be like a simple shooting ducks style game in terms of coding, the player has visible just a hand with the whip in it, you move the whip to your desired location click chosen button to hit, the whip then animates a flick, if it hits correct spot on bouncing opponent then an animation of the limb flying off happens, so the bouncing opponent is like the duck and the whip like the gun - if that is right at all?

I've been making this space shooting game but I'm having problems getting boundaries to work. I've read tutorials and done lots of searching here and couldn't get anything to work... On the main time line, there's 2 layers. One with the ship, and one with the background (both are movie clips). Inside the background movie clip, I'd like to add boundaries, almost as complex as a maze but not so restricting.. as in, a path to fly through that'd probably be as wide as the screen itself. Here's what I'm trying to work with. Use the arrow keys to move, space to shoot, and press control to toggle between fixed camera and fixed ship modes.

So the problem is basicly this: It all works just fine, but when the bullet hits the target it gets destroyed (this is ok) but also any bullet that was shoot before it (meaning also: with a lower y) gets destroyed aswell wich is anoying. Here's the code (left the comments so you can find your way around easier)

I'm making a Space Invaders-type game. Y'know? Arrow keys to fly Space to shoot? Well, shooting isn't working so well. I have two .as files: Ship.as which controls the ship's ActionScript, and Missile.as which is supposed to control the missile. When I hit load it up I get the error: The class or interface 'Missile' could not be loaded.

I am creating a 2d platform shooting game. Currently I have my main character walking around left and right and the stage background also moves left and right.
The problem I am having is that if I go to far left the charater just walks 'off stage' and into nothingness but the stage still follows. How can I make it so if the character hits a certain point he just 'stops' and cant go left no more but can go right no problem. I have tried using hitTest with another movieclip but couldnt get it working.[code]...

Ok I am creating a 2d game similar to the original mega mans and mario for nintendo. The character moves back and forth using the left and right arrow keys on the screen and has a walk animation and all. The next step is to get him to shoot his laser gun. I want this to be done using the space bar key. What I have right now is identical to Kirupa's movement using X and Y values tutorial but it only moves one direction of course. How can I make it so that it will continue to move automatically after pressing space instead of having to hit the space bar each time I want it to move 10 units over etc.?

I have benn programming in AS2 for a while, but I'm moving to AS3, and I'm having some trouble with syntax and mostly with management of parameters and variables (actually I tried to work with functions in packages without good results T.T). The game has four different types of shooters, and all of them use the same bullet (shoot function). I have succeeded on disappearing the target (a coin in this case) when it is hit by the bullet, but the problem is that I can't quite find the way to dissapear the bullet properly. I keep receiving this message:

I'm making a flash game in AS2, and i am having troubles with my gun, i have fiddled with it for a while now and i have narrowed down the problem, but i can't fix it. My problem is that i want a gun to follow the player, but the coordinates are messing up and going to his feet.

I got this rectangle_mc such that when I drag it to either the mask1_mc or mask2_mc, it will load movie_mc and plays it on the specific mask. But there's something wrong with my code.Here's the code:

Basically, I have a border(line) at the top of the stage so that whenever my ship's missile comes in contact with this line, it is removed and a rebound missile clip is attached.Here is the missile code:
Actionscript Code:[code].....The problem is that the rebound missile always spawns at left of the stage, not wherever the ship missile was removed.I'm not sure if I should attach the fla, action script files, swf etc. to the thread. Also, my flash version is CS5.

Basically every functions without hitTests are removed without errors, but all the ittestobjects that i have in the end game frame says that it cannot acess a nullhitTestObject. One of the hitTests i have is this one:

I'm new to ActionScript but I've been following Lynda tutorials and tried to tailor them to my game. I simply want to make my character at the top of the screen shoot at enemies below. The error I'm getting when I press the shoot button is "Parameter hitTestObject must be non-null." I've read some other forum posts on this error for ideas but still can't seem to make mine work.

I have a project I am working on in Flash CS3 using AS3.I have a drag and drop quiz that contains 8 boxes. 4 of the boxes contain dynamic text boxes with the vocabulary words. 4 of the boxes contain the definitions to the vocab words. The students drag and drop the vocab words onto the definitions. My issue is that hitTestObject is only working on the first box everytime. I have a for loop in my endDrag code that should loop through each object and test against it to see if there is a hit. Can anyone see anything wrong with my loop?

i made a moving car that the user can move by his keyboard , and i tried to collide it with a square (using hitTestObject function ) .. but i got no error , and no detection.so i tried to write the function again by using target (( the target object thing up in the action tools )) , then i target the car and again nothing happen.i wants that car not to get out of the square and i want the screen follow the car ... and i want to detection so i can write a function of the REACTION![code]also maybe its important to say that the carMC <---- inside this Movie clip an action layer where all equations , variables and function of the car movement are inside.

There's clearly a bunch of new stuff in Flash 10, I'm seeing a bunch in the Graphics class so far. Struggling a bit to reconcile it with what I know already but it looks useful - render lists and 3D transforms, etc - however I wondered if there are good arguments for targeting Flash 9 since I can definitely manage without all the new stuff I don't know. Like support on non-Windows devices, wide adoption of Flash 9 Vs 10, etc.

Here is what i am trying to do. i have a movie clip in frame one of my main timeline. In this movie clip i have a nav bar with buttons. With an on release, i set a variable and i play an animation in that movie clip, starting at frame 61. At the end of that animation, i jump to frame two of my main time line. In that frame i have a series of if statments that asks for the varible set with the on release, and it will load a new movie depending on what that varible is. Now, the code works, but the problem is it only works once. After you hit one button and it does all the actions, it will not go to frame 61 to play the animation in the new loaded movie. I have 3 buttons on my stage (this is a small part of a larger project), named _button1, _button2, _button3 declared in an array so I can dynamically assign listeners and use a substring of the instance name to determine which button was clicked for other functions.My problem is that trace(e.target.name); returns the value _button1 on ROLL_OVER and ROLL_OUT as expected. However when clicking the button it returns "instance9" instead of the actual instance name I gave it.Why is this happening and how do I make it return the correct name? Why the hell would my buttonClicked function return a different result from the buttonOver function where the target is the same button for each function?

So I am tring to load a movie into a target. It is loading but all of the scripts are not working (some of the scripts are working). All the scripts work if I load the movie to a level instead of a target. But I need the movies to be in a target because of the motion that I want to apply to the loaded movie

I have produced a Flash movieclip, containing a fair few layers, including masked layers, actionscript etc. One of the things it does is allows the user to click and drag a number of movieclips and drop them anywhere within the mc, but if they drop them on specific drop targets then some actionscript (AS2) kicks in, stops the drag object from being draggable again and advances through its frames to basically 'enlarge' the drag object and play a sound to show the user they've hit the right mark. This all works perfectly on its own, or in a browser window etc.
The problem I have is when I try to insert the Flash movie into an Adobe Captivate 4 e-learning package. Things work ok apart from when you drop the dragged object onto a drop target, nothing happens. The actionscript doesn't execute. Would the fact that the movieclip is (probably) sitting within a container (the Captivate e-learning package) be causing the problem? If so, how do I get around this issue?

Ok... I have 2 scenes.... 1st scene is an intro menu with several movie clip symbols (let's call them buttons for all intents and purposes) that gotoAndPlay various sections of the 2nd scene when clicked ... The various buttons on this intro screen point to different frame numbers in the 2nd scene... button1 goes to frame 1 of scene 2... button 2 goes to frame 10 of scene 2.... button 3 goes to frame 20 of scene 2 and so on....
when I click the 1st button, it takes me to the 2nd scene at frame 1 and correctly shows me that page ... (all 2nd scene pages have a navigation bar at the top to access the other 2nd scene pages) ... when I click on a navigation button it takes me to the next page within the 2nd scene that I am looking for and each progresive page works correctly.
