ActionScript 3.0 :: Completely Remove A Movieclip That Is Created As A New Class?

Mar 6, 2009

how do I completely remove a movieclip that is created as a new class.I have an event listener that does a removeChild like this

e.target.parent.removeChild(e.target);

is this enough or do I have to 'null' the object? I can't just do 'e.target = null' because the property is read only. Will the internal garbage collection do the rest for me if I have no references somewhere else?

Flash :: Remove Timer Of Object Created In A Loop

May 19, 2011

I want to remove an object that is created in a loop, with a timer.

var timer:Timer = new Timer(2000);
timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, voegtoe);

In function voegtoe I'm adding an Movieclip Object called man:

man.x=Math.random()*650;
man.y=Math.floor(Math.random()*(70))+350;
addChild(man);

I want to remove this object after 2 seconds. The problem is that there are multiple 'man' objects.

Actionscript 3 :: TextLineMetrics Get Text Width BEFORE Object Is On Displaylist

Jan 24, 2012

I have a library MovieClip Class that consists solely of a dynamic textfield contained in a MovieClip. I want to instantiate this MC, populate the textField with text, get the width of the resulting text and, if the width is less than a predefined MIN_WIDTH value, append more text. When the width is equal to or greater than my MIN_WIDTH value, add this MovieClip class to the display list. My question is, does anyone know if its possible to retrieve the length of text in a textField using Textlinemetrics BEFORE the textField has been added to the display list?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Sending An Event To The Stage From A Non-displaylist Object?

Oct 11, 2011

I've found myself in a tricky place, I've built an app that loads in swfs as external libraries so they can easily be changed at run time, all works well. I now need to separate the code from the art in these libraries so that external developers can change the art without getting their mitts on the code. Trouble is to do this my new code only library elements will need access to my overall manager class, which is the main document class, so that they can access the library manager class to add the appropriate art assets to themselves.

Now there's a couple of clumsy solutions I've thought of:

1, Store a manager class reference in a static var but that seems like a cop out.

2, Go through a few hundred thousand lines of code and alter every instantiation of a library element to include a manager reference - erm, let's not go there.

3, Have the library element send a custom event to the stage from its constructor which passes a return handler to the event listener so that can pass back a manager reference. Sounded like genius initially up until I realised that at constructor stage the library element won't be on the display list so can't bubble up to the stage

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading And Viewing XML When A Class Object Is Created?

Oct 5, 2009

I have writing a simple class which has a method that gets invoke when the object of the class is created. I am able to view the loaded XML content when I trace it with in my class method, but cannot assign the content to a instance variable using the mutator method. So the process goes like this:

Class object is instantiated Class construtor then calls the loadXML method which laods the XML And then assigns the XML to a class instance variable.

So now if I would like to access the loaded XML through class object, I should be able to see the loaded xml content which I am not able to see. I have spent over few hours and cannot get the class object to display the loaded XML content. .

[code]

package com.as3.app{    import flash.display.*;    import flash.events.*;    import flash.text.*;    import flash.net.*;

Actionscript 3 :: Tween Dynamically Created Object Along With Other Object?

Jan 24, 2011

I'm trying to dynamically addChild a Sprite to an already tweened MovieClip (tweened on the Flash timeline).
Let's say ObjectA is the tweened object, I published it in my swc and linked it to my Actionscript project in Flash Builder. I make an instance of ObjectA in my class, and then try to do the following:

var objectA:ObjectA = new ObjectA();
var objectB:ObjectB = new ObjectB();
objectA.addChild(objectB);
addChild(objectA);

Now, the problem is, objectB doesn't tween along with objectA. Is there any logical solution to this?

It seems not to be possible, since I'm getting a signature error in Flash, when compiling. For example, the following set of class do not compile (the code in function definition doesn't matter):
