ActionScript 3.0 :: Translate SWF File / Used Sothink SWF Quicker To Recompile Swf File
Nov 10, 2009
I needed to translate a SWF file, and used Sothink SWF Quicker to decompile the swf file.Now I want to re-compile it, with the changes made. How can I do that?When I try to "Publish" or "Export" the file with the same program, the new file is only with about 250 bytes, and the previous one had about 450 KB.

I want to call a function which does something a number of times. The complication is that i want to call it increasingly quickly, ie call it once after 1s, then again after 0.8s, then after 0.5s, then after 0.2s (the actual numbers aren't important I have an equation to work them out).

I can't seem to remove / unload the external swf files e.g when the carousel.swf (portfolio) is displayed and I press the about button the about content is overlapping the carousel (portfolio) . How can I remove / unload an external swf file from the main flash file and load a new swf file, while at the same time removing garbage collection from memory?

I am trying to write a class file using a .as file instead of writing code into the script tab of a .fla file.When I write stage.addChild(img); I get an error that stage is null. When I take out stage, and just write addChild(img); the code runs fine, but nothing appears on stage. Do I need to do something to set a stage active?
Is this because I don't have a Main class? My class is named after the file and I don't have a file named Main.Here is the code. As it is, it runs and I get the two trace outputs, but no graphic on my screen.
package { import flash.display.DisplayObject; import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.display.Loader; import flash.events.*; import flash.net.*; public class HelloWorldImage extends Sprite { private var background:DisplayObject, foreground:DisplayObject; private var url:String = "hw_jpg.jpg"; private var loader:Loader = new Loader( ); public function

I've been attempting to figure out the background math in a Flash game by using the Sothink SWF Decompiler to view the ActionScript files. Admittedly I know very little about ActionScript, but I'm seeing lines of code that look like:
[Code]....
From where I stand, value <= null doesn't make much sense, and neither does null * true or null & null. Am I just not understanding ActionScript properly, or is this an error in the decompiling process? If it's an error, is there any way to solve it?

I have more than one file that is using the same AS2 script, so to make the changes easier in the future, I created an external .as that is being shared by all the swf.How can I make the multiples SWF to be affected instantly by any changes I make in the external .as, without having to recompile every single one of them?

Any work flow to allow a Flash swf to be compiled by a web server. I would like to create an app that allows me to inject some code into a swf file and publish the output. Basically the user logs into a website sets up some properties, hits publish, and then downloads the app as a swf file. So the part that is stumping me is that I need one file. Compiling or editing would have to happen on the web server since I need to avoid separate resource or data config type files. The user must be able to download one complete SWF file only.
My thoughts were that maybe... Inject some code or variables into a SWF after it has been compiled from a FLA to SWF? somehow parse and rewrite the swf file on the server. An open source complier that can sit on the web server, or a javascript app that could compile a FLA to SWF? A way to complile a FLA to a SWF by using another Flash SWF? A homebrew web server that runs a command line compiler of the FLA script on demand. HaXe, MTASC, Adobe AIR? Any high level workflow that might work??

Does anyone know how to recompile Adobe Flex 4 framework RSLs?
I'm using the compiler directive -dump-config to get the build config file that the FlashBuilder IDE is using for compiling my application. I then pass that config file into the mxmlc compiler so I can build from the command-line. The results of the command-line build are output to a folder other than bin-debug. bin-debug is a localtrust path, and it will an application will run from there without error. A Flash application in any other path requires configuring the Flash Player to trust that path OR that the compile be done with the -use-network=false directive. I prefer latter since I'll be distributing the results to lay users for evaluation, and I don't want to request that they modify Flash Player security settings.
The build config file doesn't specify that framework RSLs be rebuilt using the -use-network false directive. FlashBuilder itself doesn't even compile framework RSLs. It merely copies RSL swfs from the framework directory into the bin-debug. Those swfs apparently were compiled by Adobe with the default -use-network=true.

I want to know if there is a faster way to take several bitmaps and arrange them one after another in a single layer in a movie clip.
This is how I am doing it currently.
Stage 1: Import the bitmaps to the stage
Stage 2: Distribute the bitmaps to layers
Stage 3: Make the first bitmap a movie clip symbol and cut the other bitmaps' frames
Stage 4: Go into the symbol, create a new layer, and paste the frames.
Stage 5: Click and drag the other frames into one layer, one after the other.
I now have a single movie clip with all my bitmaps ordered one after the other in the timeline.

We've got an app written in Flex that displays data from our app. The .swf file is only 427kb, but it takes a full five seconds to load in Firefox. This is a headache for our users because they need to access the page that contains the app frequently. (The app displays documents, and it's really slow to march through a list of them).
I've confirmed that it's not a slow web server problem. The .swf appears to be cached in the browser. Firebug reports that every time the web page accesses the .swf, the app server returns a "304 Not Modified" response, meaning that the load time from the server is almost zero.
Is there anything we can do to debug this issue? Or is the Flash player just slow?

Are their any tricks or things I can do with actionscript to make images load quicker? I have a full browser xml image gallery and the images are physically big but optimised in Photoshop. I have a preloader to display the loading amount, but is there a way to speed up the loading?Flash image galleries I've seen have images of similar size to mine but seem to load quicker. Is there a way to partly preload the images before they are used. I don't want to preload all the images cos that would take ages.

I'm not sure what happened but my Flex project seems to exhibit some strange compiler behavior. Two weird things:
1) I have a file with a lot of static consts. Changing consts doesn't elicit a recompile, so I need to clean and recompile to see the effects of any changes.
2) After every clean I get a same error in one of my main files (a type coercion that in fact should not be an error). If I save that file with a slight change, i.e. if I start a recompile due to changes in that file, all goes fine.

You got an eventlistener for an object that can dispatches events in intervals of 0.2ms.And if the eventhandler would need 0.5ms for his operation, what would happen? (listener and handler are in the same class).Would the last event overwrite the event before? In my case, I get some data from a xmlSocket, and I thought, that some datastrings can come in quicker than to work it off in my handler.

Which is preferred and why: keeping the AS in the Flash file itself, or linking to the .as with the Flash file. I've seen both done. Is it just a matter of preference?

I've created a small game with Box2d for AS3 - I have sprites attached to the stage that take their position from the underlying Box2d world. These sprites are mostly PNGs.When the game runs with DrawDebugData() bening called every update, it runs nice and smoothly. However when I comment this out, it runs choppily. In both cases all my sprites are being rendered. So it seems that it's running faster when it's drawing the debug data additionaly (i.e. my sprites are on the screen in both cases!)What's going on? Does drawing the debug data flick some sort of 'render quick' switch? If so, what's the switch!? I can't see it in the Box2D code.
function Update(e){
m_world.Step(m_timeStep, m_velocityIterations, m_positionIterations);
// draw debug?[code]...
Interestingly, If i set the debug draw scale to something different to my world scale, it slows down to 19fps. So there's something happening when it draws the boxes under my sprites causing it to run quicker..

I have a application developed in flex deployed on server. In the application data is filled by user and saved in cookies so as to be available even when the user closes the application. However if new version of application is released the user can still access the older version saved in the cahe. How can it be assured that whenever a new version of application is released the application is loaded from the server and not from the cache and at the same time data saved in the older version (in cookies) can also be accessed in the new version.

Is there any "mainstream" library used for this purpose? Commonly spread, well maintained, documented etc.I found these (using flash):
Uploadify - not many releases, latest 12/2010, no documentation (!)
SWFUpload - latest release 03/2010, documentation
fancyupload - looks buggy.
phpfileuploader - looks heavyweight, and looks commercial (?) I cannot read the licence (you can download it but are you allowed to use it forever without paying?) plupload New version of pure javascript (no flash) Valums' ajax upload claims to handle file size limit and progress bar, which is quite suspicious to me: these features require to guess the file size before the upload, which seems impossible in javascript (look also here). Or can it work?

The template is built under Flash and has .swf, .fla and html files and was setup on an html background. To make things look nice I decided to use an XML web template as a background to his template. The problem starts from there.The XML web template allows us to add our own SWF files, so I decided to add the swf file of my friend's template.
The swf file was set to "noscale" and when I imported it into the web template it didn't fit properly. So I took the "noscale" off from the actionscript and imported it again. Even then the scaling of the swf file was not correct.As soon as you load the file, it scales towards the left and not center.My question is how can I write a code within the fla file so that when the swf file is loaded it automatically centers itself?2nd question is how can I setup the dimensions of the file as in terms of height and width of the file without getting it cropped. I tried to set it up from 840x610 to 650x430 however the swf content got chopped off (even with noscale off).
