Actionscript 3.0 :: Trace Out Movieclip Values?
Feb 5, 2009I'm having trouble tracing the value of a movieclip name [code]...

View 1 Repliespoint in the right direction if there's been a post previously on this, I did a search but didn't find anything. So my problem is that I'm creating objects dynamically and adding them to a movieclip container. I.e. click button -> generate new instance of Item class -> container.addChild(item).
[Code].....
What on earth am I missing?! I've googled and found working examples of that, but it just does not do the trick for me. I'm compiling the project as an Adobe AIR file, but as far as I'm concerned, it should not intervene with the x and y values of the movie clips. I also tried getting the values by methods in the Item class, but with no luck.
I am having a color array with values like 0x2EFE2E, 0xFFFF00, etc. but when i am trying to trace the values in the array, it prints something else like 95455. I think these are some converted values. But i tried using parseInt(val, 16), uint(val). None of these works. Basically, i just want to take values from this array and assign it to particleColor (a uint) and use like this:

This includes some code and some traced output. I've been looking at this for 2 days and it stupifies me. I'll elaborate: There is a game object, its a dictionary object containing a screen tile with index/name tile_x_y So i can look it up using the x and y coords. The object contains lost of stuff but in this case especially: x, y , width, height, xtile, ytile (self explanatory i assume) & xmove, ymove (-1,0,1 depending on direction.)
So, now these objects move around the screen (yes its just a game) and check if they hit the screen bounds and if they try to move onto tiles that are occupied/non traversable. It goes fine for most objects but sometimes, or for some objects (no clue why and it changes on restart), halfway the boundaries check, the object internal x and y values go ballistic and i end up with a reference error on the dictionary object because tile 280 30 just doesnt exist.

I can create a double axis cursor and i want to have a tracker to trace the _x and _y values of my cursor but i'm not sure of the script.
View 2 Repliesi am using a movieclip who has two nested movieclips, the problem i am dealing is that when i try to get the width or height of the parent movieclip it always showing the values of the small nested movieclip, when i draw the movieclip it draw perfect but when i read this values shows that error, what can i do?
View 2 RepliesI can successfully trace out the movieclip instance name..Code: Select alltrace(regions[i].name);but if I try to use it in the following code to hide a movieclip Code: Select alluk.regions[i].name.turtleMc.visible = false;[code]

I want that my movieclip load a file swf named "main.swf" and then trace its Bytes. Below i reported my script.

I am having issues with a global array. I have an actionscript file called MyGlobal.as at the same level as my main FLA:
[Code]....
I am able to trace that first element while trace is called within the function... but if I try to trace that first element outside of the function it is "undefined". Do I need to return the array at the end of the function? I tried that but I cant seem to get it working correctly.
I've been playing with prototype a bit and I've noticed that either it isn't as static as it should be or that some functions are protected from altering, or that in some cases the prototype actually extends a function. For example, I was trying to modifiy the global trace function to output the current time of a trace action, something like this :
Code:trace("lulu"); // output 12:48:17.286 lulu I DID achieve something close to it, but it seems that I haven't actually modified the global trace function, but rather it's "_root" counterpart,

ive got a loaded xml list for an mp3 player. from playing track1, when i select track 2, it traces "track1" but then after a second click it traces "track2" and stays on that. the actually music for track2 does load on the first click though, but not the trace. anyone know why on the first click it would still trace the previous track? here is the code for that function...

I want to trace a text if the mouse is pressed (MouseDown) and is it's on a movieclip (DragOver,RollOver)...can't manage to put all the 3 condition allong for the script to work...
View 1 Repliestake a look at the results of these traces:
trace(imgGal); //traces "1"
trace(itemClip1._y); //traces "32"
trace(itemClip[imgGal]._y); //traces "undefined"
why does the last trace not trace "32" like the second trace? I want to insert the variable "imgGal" onto the end of the mc "itemClip", how can I do this?
[Code]...
var dane:Array = new Array();
dane_xml = new XML();
dane_xml.ignoreWhite = true;[code]....
and this last trace gives me undefined while trace(temp) gives me what I want
I've created some dynamic movieclips. When I click and hold on one of them, I'd like a different library linked MC to appear, and the new MC to be draggable.
I can make the new MC appear, and I can make it draggable. However, I'm a little lost when it comes to telling Flash to forget about the old clip, and make the new one the 'live' one.
In other words - after a click-hold, I want the new movieclip to be movable without the user having to mouse up and then click again.
I have a movie clip (mc_moviegroup) which is made of a group of many dynamic text fields. I want to loop through the dynamic text field children of mc_moviegroup and pull out their text values in a string. Does a movie clip have a property which gives the number of it's children movieclips?
View 2 RepliesI am dynamically loading an image into a movieclip using a preloader but cannot successfully calculate the percent loaded since I cannot get the getBytesTotal() method to work. I understand why it is not printing the percentage but what I do not understand is how getBytesTotal is behaving. Here is a segment of my output. l means loaded and t means total.
Code:
l = 0
t = -1

When you do, you'll see that the movieclip should obviously be at position (0, 0) on the stage. However it appears at (25, 5)! if I leave in the original "this.x = xx;", then it appears at (50, 5). If I also leave in "this.y=yy;" then it appears at (50, 10).

how to send variable values inside a movieclip, to the main scope (main timeline)?
View 4 RepliesSo. I have this relatively simple code
[Code]...
when I run it, there's this wierd random star just in the middle of the screen. I tried tracing all stars with _x values of 0, 200, undefined; _xscale values of 0, 100, undefined. There was nothing. I don't know why it's there. I don't even know if it has code in it. =/ Does anyone know what it is? Btw, I know it looks like crap ... sorta more like a glue gun than stars ... I have a better looking version, I just used this to try to disect the problem.
I would love if someone could take a look at the code below. When you do, you'll see that the movieclip should obviously be at position (0, 0) on the stage. However it appears at (25, 5)! if I leave in the original "this.x = xx;", then it appears at (50, 5). If I also leave in "this.y=yy;" then it appears at (50, 10).

I want to know if I have variables inside amovie clip that get some values after user contact and I want to use this values in other frames in the main timeline.
View 2 RepliesI am currently trying to create a piece of code that will retrieve values from a 2D array and use them as x and y values to position instances of a MovieClip called mcMain. The code for the array will look something like this...
Code:
var lvlMain:Array = new Array();
lvlMain.push(new Array());
var xAxis:Array = new Array([150,400,200,300,100]);
[Code]....
how to create a piece of code that would retrieve the x and y coordinates listed in the arrays and use them to create instances of mcMain. So going from the code above it would create the first instance at x=150 and y=100, second instance........fifth instance at x=100 and y=500.
im trying this every which way.creating global variables etc.I have a movie clip with a text area (lets call it txttest)there is text inside it which i want to send from this movieclip on the main frame to a text area (lets call that one txttestB) on the main frame. Whatever i try i get undefined in the text area on the main frame.I have tried this...
_global.selectedcompany = txttest.text;
_root.txttestB.text = _global.selectedcompany;
I've gotten these sliders to work but can't get the output values to add up. For instance, depending on the values for slider 1, 2 and 3, I need the total to show up in a separate text box. I keep getting a NaN message in the text box.Here's the code I have so far:
//item 1
sliderOne.width = 600;
sliderOne.value = 0;[code].....
Basically there's an object in a movieclip. I want to find the location of that object in relation to the movieclip, not of the object's symbol. So when i look at the x and y of it, it wont show 0, it will show the x and y location in the movieclip it's in.

I need to be able to compare the number of whole days between two dates in ActionScript, is this possible? I'd like to test if one date is 7 days or less after today, and if so is it one day or less (if it's before today this also counts).The workaround I have in place is using the .time part of the date field:
// Get the diffence between the current date and the due date
var dateDiff:Date = new Date();
dateDiff.setTime (dueDate.time - currentDate.time);[code].....
As I say - this is only a workaround, I'd like a permanent solution to allow me to check the number of whole days between 2 dates. Is this possible?
Is there anyway where I can pass the Array values (not the array collection values) to the Bar charts or column charts using flex 3.5...
here is the thing i want:::
I have array values like this,,
array1 = [23, 49, 40, 239, 20, 80, 39,49,120, 24, 31,41];
and i want to show these values on the Yaxis and months on Xaxis....
I have two Qns,
1) how can I pass this array to Bar chart or column chart.
2) how do I need to show months on Xaxis. beacuse I'm asking this regarding, I have kept a filters that even if we want to see some months or a particular months or perticalar span of months... there on Xaxis it need to change the months dynamically depending on the filters..... (for ex, on Xaxis the values should be (Jan, Apr, Jun,Oct) if i select the 3 months period filter....)
I have written a logic to collect the values of those particular months into an array, but not understading how to pass this array to Bar chart,, beacuse there I don't know what Xfield and Yfield to be given....
