I'm new to using flash and actionscript, but i'm looking to learn how to make a video or a series of videos play using flash. Where the user has to click on a specific part of the screen to play the next video. I'm using Flash cs3 to do this and again i'm new to this so i don't know how to navigate very well. If anyone could provide me with a tutorial or walkthrough on this that'd be amazing.

I am using Flex Spark Slider as a time-line for a Flex video player custom component I have created.
I want to prevent the user from clicking on the slider and changing its value, but at the same time I should be able to change the value of the slider programmatically.
Setting the "enabled" property for the slider to "false" doesn't help as then I am not able to change the slider value programmatically.
I did a test where I was able to load in data to a text field in flash from an xml file. This field will eventually be a scrolling text box. How would I make some of the text in the XML file interactive (meaning you could click on it and cause something to happen in the flash) - for example popping up a graphic on the screen. I don't want it to be an external link (URL) and since the text scrolls, there is no way to know where it will be on the screen when the user clicks on it so I can't create an invisible button.
View 4 RepliesI'm trying to load a flash game (hosted remotely) into an empty movie clip, and when I do the game appears but the buttons are disabled.Is there any way around this? I need to code it in as2 but the game was coded in as3, maybe that's causing issues? I've tried 2 slightly different ways so far but with the same affect:URL...(BTW, the game I'm using is just an example because the real one isn't finished yet)
View 1 RepliesSince I started using CS3 I sometimes get the following error: Error creating Flash movie file. Be sure the destination file is not locked or on a locked drive. Also, check that the file name is not too long. It doesn't happen all the time, and I haven't been able to figure out what causes it. I have been able to confirm that it's not anything to do with locked files/drives, permissions, or file name length.
It happens with files created elsewhere (by other developers) that I've modified, and it happens with files I start from scratch - I can create a new FLA on my desktop and it won't publish. Sometimes (but not always), publishing to a different directory than the one the FLA is in will work. This is becoming a big problem. I'm on OS X 10.4.9, 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro 17", running CS3 Web Premium package.
I have created a small flash project with 6 Scenes(two scenes contain flv clips 2 minutes each(1560 frames)). If I test each scene separately it runs perfectly, but when I try to run the whole movie it runs for 10 minutes "Exporting SWF Movie" and then stops without any errors or warning and without running project or creating swf file. I am using Adobe Flash Professional cs5.5.
View 1 RepliesI have a movie which loads quiz questions from an XML file. This works perfectly, although editing the questions is a bit tricky. Whether it is possible to create an XML file from a flash movie.
I would like to create a simple template in which:
- the user enters the question and answer data
- the user chooses a filename for their data
- this data is saved to the hard drive in the form of an XML file
- this data can be accessed by a serarate quiz movie
Is this possible?

View 2 RepliesI am looking to build a Flash/Flex application that would allow users to edit certain portions of an application and then be able to download a swf when they are finished customizing. Is it possible to embed content in swf files and save them on the fly? Or would I need to have them download the generic swf that points to an xml file to load the custom data? I know you can save out generated images from a Flash app using server side scripting, but I'm unaware of anything similar for swf files.

The video player is "SCORM" compliant so that when the user clicks the "exit" button a class file is called to mark the user complete in an LMS.I have tested the SCORM Code previously and it works with out issue. Usually I have the completion code embedded in an Actions Layer of the movie. This is the first time I have attempted to call the completion status in a class file, I have added a "trace statement" when the movie is tested within flash it runs the trace statement properly, but when uploaded to the LMS environment the course does not complete properly

if i create a loop for updating the own user users list statues it would not be good idea,,,
so what is the best way to let the user build his own users list and get the statues of each user in his list from the application online users sharedObject witch connected to the lobby app
I'd like to create a combobox which will get users from an arrayList & another field for creating a new user. for example when i open the combobox i'd like to see the rows :

User B
where the users come form an arrayList and the "create new user" option is always there.
How can I do it?P.S I don't wan't to add "create new user" obj to the arryList - so this is not a desired solution.

I have a webpage where user enters details. These details are sent to php and session variables are created. My new swf then grabs these variables and displays them in a movie. Now the whole idea is for this movie clip with the details then to be sent to someone as a link. But, if the receiver then opens this link, they wont have the session variables though, and the details will not display.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to write a secure login using flash. I worked out that the login must be separate from the protected content otherwise a decompiler will get round it very quickly. At the moment I have a login swf that posts variables to a server side script which then creates a session for a valid user.
The idea is to then forward on to the protected content. However I am unsure how to pass the users info to the swf so a user could not modify before the swf gets it and thus see another members content or what I can do to stop someone just accessing the content directly by just knowing the swf file's location.
I am creating an image gallery where the user can select from several thumbnail images. Once selected, the thumbnails will enlarge and load the full sized image. My problem is that while the user is waiting for the full sized image to load, he may decide to close that image and view another image. I am trying to find a way to stop a loader from loading.ere is the code I have used. My problem is that even though the user has clicked on the unloadBtn, the loader continues to load the file. Is there a way to disable that?

Its meant to be a background preloader, so it loads stuff in, but if the user selects something it stops, loads the choice item and removes it from the "to be loaded"...loadArray. so when it restarts it knows not to load it again
Setback/feature 1: if a user choices to select an item, it will continue to load whatever is loading and start to load the item they want.
Setback/feature 2: the preloader will not restart until the user calls userCont().... should I have a timer so after awhile it kicks back in?
Error: just realised I have to stop it when it gets the end of the list.

currently I use the following workflow for Live video streaming.I have FMLE on a computer streaming the Video feed to my FMS.I currenlty use Dreamweaver to create window with a few instances of a video window and one of the windows is configured to rtmp to my server and the stream name of the stream I have setup in FMLE.This then streams to one of the windows.I then assign a different Stream name to the other windows.
I send an FMLE client to a user in the locations that want to have a video presence on the webpage.I send them instructions and running FMLE and the parameters to use to get their camera up and running.This works fine to a point.Most of the users are not technically minded and so often this leads to issues and delays to get these things to work.
I want to move on and improve this flow.I want to create the video instances on the page where:Below each video window is a text input field where a user can type in their name which will be used as the stream name.Below each video window is a button that the user clicks to connect their camera automatically without having to install FMLE.Once the video feed is running, only that user can click the button again to disconnect it. ( The button changes to "Stop Broadcast" etc).
I have looked at the structure of Ustream for example, and this seems to be the method they use as you can download the XML file of your channe,l and the RTMP URL and stream name can be copied and then used directly in FMLE and you can stream with more control of your camera that way.
step1- I got an xml that is locally loaded(works fine)
step2- the content goes into a datagrid that is displayed (works fine)
step3- In AS3 I dynamically add some lines to this xml file(works fine)
step4- I save it locally (works fine)
step5-and want the datagrid to be updated..(works not-so-well)
So, in step 4, the data is saved into the xml file, but in order to finish the save, the user has to click on the "Save as" windows in order to have the file updated of course.. and that's where's my problem, how can i tell flash to wait till the user actually saves the file, before reload the xml file in the datagrid ? here's the code :

I have to make a flash movie that would allow the user to control the framerate of the movie. Unfortunately I'm not that good with flash and I don't know how that could be done ..I thought about something like

(As its a standalone offline application).I know about the JPEGencoder classes and all.I can't use FileRefrence because it asks the user where he wants to store the image while i want to save the image in a pre-defined folder automatically.
View 2 RepliesOK I have been racking my brain to get this resolved and unfortunately there isn't a lot of info on the web. Scenario: We are in a shared environment. Central file server (Mac OS X server) over gigabit enet. We open flash files over the network and then we "try" to publish the files back to the same server in which the .fla is stored. (I have read John at Adobe's comments on the practice but this DID work).
So we access the flash file at /Volumes/ServerName/JobFolder/~Flash/ and we "attempt to" publish the .swf to /Volumes/ServerName/JobFolder/htmlfolder/flash .... this was working previously in flash 6-7 but in 8-cs3 it has stopped working and we are kicking ourselves to get some answers. When we try to publish we get the following error: "Error creating Flash movie file. Be sure the destination is not locked or on a locked drive. Also, check that the file name is not too long."

I have a site at the mo with a banner in flash but i know that there are sites out there that use flash more in depth. ive seen pretty much whole sites done with flash before but have no idea how to do it! I could get something interatctive with buttons etc in flash cs3 but would have no idea how to display it all in a webpage, create a link from flash to the html or whatever so when a button was clicked it'd take the user to a different page...etc
I have an ad banner that the client says the clickTag layer must be the top most layer. The problem is I have movies below that layer that animate on rollOver:

These do not work unless they are above the clickTag layer. Is their a way I can adjust the rollOver code to acomodate for this? Both the clickTag and the movies are on the main time line but the rollOver animation is in its own movie.
