I'm new to flash and working on a project with underlying music. I have the music on a layer and everything works fine, but I'm having trouble syncing animation to the music because the blue oscillation bar of the music layer is more or less a flat line. I was wondering if there was a way to increase the variation in this bar so I can see the beats in the music.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying out FlashCS5 in an iMac running Snow Leopard. I'm putting in the timeline an mp3 sound I imported to the library. When I test the movie I get this message: When I test the swf, I get no animation and no sound. I tried changing the settings in the Advanced AS3 Settings to Default Linkage to from "Runtime Shared Libraries" to "Merged int code". The message goes away but the test still fails.

I am having a bit of a problem with the playback of a certain sound in my published file. I have a sound attached to a frame in my timeline and I have it as a stream so that it plays extactly where I want it to in the movie. When I publish my movie, however, the sound plays about 2-3 seconds before it's supposed to. I tried putting another sound file in its place and the other file plays early as well. View 3 RepliesI've run into a bit of a problem using Adobe's CS3 flash program in terms of lip syncing... I can place the sound files in the timeline at whichever point I like and so forth, but I have no way to play them in such a way where I can adequately make lip syncs. It's hard to explain, but in flash MX I would merely click the timeline, drag the cursor along it, and it would play the sounds as it did the frames, one piece at a time. That way I could tell where the consonants were and therefore where to change my characters' lips. This is not the same as simply hitting "enter" and letting the sound play in its entirety.

I am attempting to preview several frames in the timeline to see how my animation is syncing up as I work on it, but no sound plays in the timeline. Doing a publish/preview every time I want to check it doesn't seem like the best option. I've tried CS4 and CS5 and it's the same result in both. I'm curious as to what I am missing, or do you animators out there do something different?
View 3 RepliesI've been making the transition from AS2 to AS3 for the last week and am making progress. But I'm having a problem that hopefully someone can help me with. I'm using Flash CS5. I have a fairly simple Flash website I'm working on. I have sections on the timeline like Home, About, Photos, Media ... all set up using labels for each of those sections. Everything is working fine but when I go to my Media section where I have a video placed (using the flv component) I'm having a problem as follows:
The video auto plays fine when I go to the Media section but when I attempt to leave the section and go to another the sound of the video doesn't stop. It continues to play when I go to another section and if I go back to the section it starts again. The video is not there when I go to another section which is the part that's confusing me. In AS2 when I did this the video and the sound both stopped because you went to another section on the timeline. Why is the sound of the video not stopping in AS3?
I'm trying to modify many .fla files (in CS3) that have a voiceover layer on them. Because I'm adding or deleting other items on the stage, I need to adjust the audio fo synch with the modified flash file. I have tried deleting frames and this happens - I select the unwanted frames, such as frames 200 to 300 of a 500 frame file. Then, the audio from frames 300 to 500 (at the end of the file) gets deleted instead.
I need to create gaps (like 200 frames of no sound) in the audio (.wav) file so I tried adding blank frames. When I click on "insert frames" in the middle of the timeline, Flash adds the new frames to the end of the sound timeline.
I also tried adding a keyframe at the beginnig of the range and Flash deleted all the frames after the keyframe.
It looks like any modification to the sound/audio layer only affects the end of the timeline. How do I modify sound parts in the middle of the timeline? I know this can be done but how?
Details: The audio layer (.wav) runs the whole length of the Flash file. The .wav file is a sound file in the Library; 22kHz Mono 16-bit 27.4s 12.1kb. The files were created in CS3. These files work fine.
i have a weird bug.. I create 4 sounds and attach sound to them at level _root, sound1 to sound4.I create another 1 that has no sound attach, which i use to control the volume, let's call it dummy.That last one is also declared on _root.When i start more than one sound and still force the volume to 100 on dummy (_root), i still hear a large volume increase everytime a sound is started, and even growing after for a few seconds. so if i have 4 sounds, it feels after a while that the volume is set to 1000, having the sounds all crapped out. That volume changes a lot tho, it can be very loud or extremly loud... If i only start 1 sound, the volume is fine...

when importing sound into flash. the file becomes a lot larger than it should be and this has happened to me many times before. heres a scenario to describe what i'm talking about:
original file size: 900 kB
music file size(to be imported): 5000 kB
import the music file size, and it should be automatically compressed (usually i get a message at the bottom of the properties window for the sound, saying that it was decreased to 10-15% the size of the original file). even without the compression, the file size shouldn't be more than 5900kB (900 + 5000), right? well oddly enough, it isn't. it might increase by 3 times this amount from what i've experienced in the past(to about 18 000kB).
this has caused many problems for me including the inability to upload files(due to upload limits) and slow file transfer, which is the reason i decided to bring this up.(file sizes increase greatly when importing sound)?
Background story: many users (including me) browse the web from notebooks that are not constructed for sound performance. That means (besides other things) that the sound volume for most videos is too low, especially if the video itself is recorded at low volume.

View 3 RepliesI have an older flash application, it uses actionscript 2. Its logic is heavily tied to the frame rate (using onEnterFrame lots of times). I need to accelerate its calculations.
The maxmimum frame rate Flash Professional lets me specify for it is 120. Is there any way to make this higher? I don't necessarily have to change the fla or the swf, being able to play it faster locally would be sufficient, if the flash player can be tweaked to accomplish that.
how to increase the work area of a flash document? Not the stage but the empty space around the stage. [URL] It seems to be limited to about 4,000 pixels wide regardless of the zoom level. This is a big problem for me as I'm working with a movie clip with a width of 8000 pixels and if I want to add text to part of the clip that's at 6,000 pixels in, I can't see it because its outside the work area. I can't shift the clip to the left to access the part on the right because if I do, the text area doesn't move with it. Is there any way to link objects together? When I select multiple items on the stage and Right Click, there's an option called "Break Apart" but I don't see one to join them or link them.

What would be best practice for speeding up an animation? - Increase the frame rate, or is that considered cheating (already set to 25)? The alternative would be to manually adjust the length of the tweens on each layer.

I have a flash header that was never completed because the guy I hired took people's money and ran. So now I even wonder if what he said could work with my flash header is true or not. But, usually there is always a way to make it work.I have a flash header that does two important things: 1) Upon entering the site, it loads and plays an audio track 2) Makes an animal noise when you hover over each animal menu item. (not sure if I'm able to give a link to it or not on here. If I able to and someone would like to see it let me know)I want to know if my flash header can support the following addionalunctionality/changes:1) Currently, it loads everytime a page is selected. I only want it to load the one time of entering the site because the audio gets annoying. Set a cookie maybe?2) But, I do not want to turn the audio off completely because I still want the hover over each menu item sound.

Ive stumbled upon a few sites that have free sound FX's but the ones I want which I wuld think are the easiest to get I cant find.I want a sound for when someone clicks the right thing, like a under a sec tiriring or something like when you kill a guy in Leauge of Legends or something like that and also one for when you click the wrong thing like an windows warning ut a little different, yet all the sites and SFX I come across are for everything but those.
