Professional :: Sound Is Early In SWF File But Not In Timeline?
Jan 30, 2010
I am having a bit of a problem with the playback of a certain sound in my published file. I have a sound attached to a frame in my timeline and I have it as a stream so that it plays extactly where I want it to in the movie. When I publish my movie, however, the sound plays about 2-3 seconds before it's supposed to. I tried putting another sound file in its place and the other file plays early as well. The sound will also start early if it is an event

I have about a 1min 30 sec animation in Flash CS5 which uses a lot of background sound and music. When I test each individual scene, the sound is right where I want it, in line with face animations, actions, etc. But when I watch the SWF (Hit Ctrl+Enter), the sound begins to enter early, when the video is about 50 seconds through. It gets so far in front that by the end of the film the sound is arriving about a good scene before when it is supposed to arrive.

I'm trying out FlashCS5 in an iMac running Snow Leopard. I'm putting in the timeline an mp3 sound I imported to the library. When I test the movie I get this message: When I test the swf, I get no animation and no sound. I tried changing the settings in the Advanced AS3 Settings to Default Linkage to from "Runtime Shared Libraries" to "Merged int code". The message goes away but the test still fails.

I have a sound that I have imported into my library and I'm playing it in my timeline by adding it to a keyframe. I want it to go away when I move to scene 2. In action script 2.0, there was a script that I used that was "stopAllSounds()", but that doesn't work in 3.0. Is there a quick fix to stop all sounds or one sound on my timeline?

I have a timeline with a sound in it set to sync because I am scrubbing the main timeline.... I now want to control the volume of the sound in the timeline..is that possible in AS3??
sometime like : var my_globalSound:Sound = new Sound(stage); that of course doesn't work, but how would I get access to the sound set in the timeline...

I've run into a bit of a problem using Adobe's CS3 flash program in terms of lip syncing... I can place the sound files in the timeline at whichever point I like and so forth, but I have no way to play them in such a way where I can adequately make lip syncs. It's hard to explain, but in flash MX I would merely click the timeline, drag the cursor along it, and it would play the sounds as it did the frames, one piece at a time. That way I could tell where the consonants were and therefore where to change my characters' lips. This is not the same as simply hitting "enter" and letting the sound play in its entirety.

I am trying to animate a character talking in CS3. What should I do to be able to hear the dialogue when I drag on the timeline? Currently I can't hear anything, but if I test the movie it plays fine.

I'm new to flash and working on a project with underlying music. I have the music on a layer and everything works fine, but I'm having trouble syncing animation to the music because the blue oscillation bar of the music layer is more or less a flat line. I was wondering if there was a way to increase the variation in this bar so I can see the beats in the music.

I have a sound file (.mp3) that I would like to animate to. I am attempting to preview several frames in the timeline to see how my animation is syncing up as I work on it, but no sound plays in the timeline. Doing a publish/preview every time I want to check it doesn't seem like the best option. I've tried CS4 and CS5 and it's the same result in both. I'm curious as to what I am missing, or do you animators out there do something different?

I've been making the transition from AS2 to AS3 for the last week and am making progress. But I'm having a problem that hopefully someone can help me with. I'm using Flash CS5. I have a fairly simple Flash website I'm working on. I have sections on the timeline like Home, About, Photos, Media ... all set up using labels for each of those sections. Everything is working fine but when I go to my Media section where I have a video placed (using the flv component) I'm having a problem as follows:
The video auto plays fine when I go to the Media section but when I attempt to leave the section and go to another the sound of the video doesn't stop. It continues to play when I go to another section and if I go back to the section it starts again. The video is not there when I go to another section which is the part that's confusing me. In AS2 when I did this the video and the sound both stopped because you went to another section on the timeline. Why is the sound of the video not stopping in AS3?

I'm trying to modify many .fla files (in CS3) that have a voiceover layer on them. Because I'm adding or deleting other items on the stage, I need to adjust the audio fo synch with the modified flash file. I have tried deleting frames and this happens - I select the unwanted frames, such as frames 200 to 300 of a 500 frame file. Then, the audio from frames 300 to 500 (at the end of the file) gets deleted instead.
I need to create gaps (like 200 frames of no sound) in the audio (.wav) file so I tried adding blank frames. When I click on "insert frames" in the middle of the timeline, Flash adds the new frames to the end of the sound timeline.
I also tried adding a keyframe at the beginnig of the range and Flash deleted all the frames after the keyframe.
It looks like any modification to the sound/audio layer only affects the end of the timeline. How do I modify sound parts in the middle of the timeline? I know this can be done but how?
Details: The audio layer (.wav) runs the whole length of the Flash file. The .wav file is a sound file in the Library; 22kHz Mono 16-bit 27.4s 12.1kb. The files were created in CS3. These files work fine.

I have a sound file that is attached to the Over state of a button.I open the Edit Envelope dialog box and change the In and Out points of the sound.On the Stage, with Enable Simple Buttons active, the sound works as planned, triggered on the Over state and playing the part that is indicated by the edited in and out points on the envelopeWhen I use the Test Movie command (or publish the file), the edited sound cuts off abruptly in the middle of the sound.

I have a sound file in my library that plays perfectly in the library - a song with jingle bell accompaniment.When the animation is saved as a swf file, the song is there, but the jingle bell accompaniment isn't.When I extract the audio track from the flash file with AVS software,the jingle bell accompaniment is missing.
Background:I do not have the original recording that I imported to my Flash project.Even when I did have it, the jingle bell percussion was missing. I don't knowt how to get the sound file out of the library to save it individually (in case re-importing it would solve the problem)I don't know how to make the sound file play when I'm working on the file. (If I did, maybe I could adjust it in the timeline?)

I am trying to export a .swf file which plays video/sound so I can upload the file to a website (embedded). However, the sound does not want to play when in flash. It is basically of a person talking and lasts about 20 seconds. I have exported the file as a .mov using flash mx pro on mac. the .mov file plays in a quicktime but when imported into flash the sounds seems to disappear.

I have a flash file with about 20 different scenes in it. And in one of the scenes there is an audio file that is 15 seconds long. The sound is on a menu page so i only want it in that scene. But if you are on that page for less than 15 seconds and go to another page then it carries on the sound into the next scene and if you go to and from the menu page to another scenes in quick succession you get a build up of sound which is horrible.

I can use flash ok to build stuff, but I usually just build a flash presentation with movieclips and buttons all contained in the one file. I have never had to put my creations onto cd-rom before. So now I am looking at a CD-rom and seeing how someone else has done it and I see that all the .swf files are separated, as will as sound and video. I thought the only reason to do this would be to be able to access and change for example and mp3. without having to open the flash file, but I am thinking there are other reasons?

I am trying to create a soundboard and I have all my buttons and stuff, the only thing left is to put the sound files in. However, I have tried adding them to the library and dragging and dropping them over the HIT option like I usually do, but when I export the swf file, the sound file sounds terrible, it crackles and sometimes stutters a bit. I have tried setting these sound files to mp3 and raw in adobe options but with no luck. I am using actionscript 2.0 if that has anything to do with it. Also, I need these files embedded, not just linked.

swfobject_modified.js
expressInstall.swf

I have an intermittant problem with FLV playback. I am using FMS 3.0.1r123 and FLVPlayback component to play RTMP streams that have been recorded using a webcam via RTMP. Maybe 1 in 10 recordings will not play back the last couple of seconds of the movie. A day or two later they are fine and play completely! I have made some tests;
1. Using Video object instead makes no difference (it seems the Event.COMPLETE message arrives early)
2. Using HTTP playback fixes the problem (but I want to try and keep the RTMP playback if possible though but I guess this is one way out)
3. The duration before the movies plays back properly seems to vary but is always at least 24 hours later (is that weird or what?)
4. Seeking past the 'end' will play the last couple of seconds.
5. The metadata duration reported at the start is correct (but how can you force FLVPlayback to use this length?)

I have the code:
var timer:Timer = new Timer(milliseconds, repititions);
timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, callback);
timer.start();
and if a user click I want to call the callback early. Is there was a way to either force the timer to finish immediately, or stop it and send the TimerEvent.Timer on my own?
I'm looking for something simple like the tween classes fforward().
EDIT
The Solution was
timer.dispatchEvent(new TimerEvent(TimerEvent.TIMER));
I was trying to do timer.dispatchEvent(new TimerEvent("TIMER")); which doesn't work.

I am using the VideoEvent.COMPLETE trigger to return my user to a selection screen once a video they have chosen to watch has finished... but for some reason the trigger fires 2 or so seconds into the video(45sec videos). The bug seems pretty inconsistent, sometimes it happens and sometimes not on all of my videos

Is anyone having trouble with Chrome getting NetStream.Play.Stop early in Chrome? Seems to fire around the time the buffer has filled. Same code is and has been working fine in all other browsers for some time.

I've created a player for a client in the past using their LimeLight server to stream videos and not had an issue before, however for a new client using different LimeLight server, the videos seem to be ending 3-4 secs too early.
My traces on 3 vastly different videos I tested:
metadata duration = 32 // 32 secs long, ends at 27
Stop [27.350 seconds] = 4.65
metadata duration = 17 // 17 secs long, ends at 12
Stop [12.852 seconds] = 4.148
metadata duration = 258 // 258 secs long, ends at 255
Stop [255.861 seconds]
In the video players I check for NetStream.Play.Stop then put a 'reset' type function in there. This function however triggers too early due to this strange bug. Has anyone have seen this before?
private function netStatusHandler(event:NetStatusEvent):void
{
trace("connected is: " + nc.connected );
[Code].....
The only work-around I see for this is saving the initial number I get from the metadata duration, and running a timer to constantly check for when the current ns.time matches metadata and then run my reset function.

I'm having some trouble getting the following code to work - trying to use the new Sound.extract() function to get two seconds of a Sound into a ByteArray, and then create a new bytearray with a WAV header, and then output the file. The resulting 'test.wav' file sounds very wrong although slightly recognisable? I think I may have some of the WAV header settings may be wrong but I'm not quite sure what's the matter and after a long time scratching

I have a long mp3 file hosted on a standard apache server (30 minutes long so far, but I would like it to work with longer sounds too).I'd like to start playback of this audio within at a specified point. When attempting to use Flash Actionscript 3, my basic tests show that ALL the audio from the start to the position I choose is buffered before playback (Sound.bytesLoaded was my friend here). If I start one second in, it takes about 3 seconds to start playback, 30 seconds in, takes about 25 secondsObviously with a really long mp3, like skipping playback to the middle of a 3-hour audiobook, this isn't going to be practical.Here's the ActionScript 3.0 code I'm using:
button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, function():void {
var s:Sound = new Sound();
var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://example.com/audio.mp3");
[code].....
