View 1 Replieswhy the swf does not catch any keyboard events? When i Ctrl+Enter my .fla there is a message appearing that says: "Your content will not stream. Runtime Shared Library (RSL) preloading will require all of your content to download before the first frame will play. To prevent this you can change the Runtime Shared Library Library Settings in the Advanced ActionScript 3.0 Settings dialog which can be raised from the Public Settings dialog. The Runtime Shared Libraries being preloaded are: textLayout_1.0..........."

But when I write event handlers for them when i click mc2 from mc1's hole , just mc1 catches the event and mc2 doesn't catch any event. Here is my simple code :

This isn't an exact duplicate of AS3: add event listener to loaded swf, actually it seems to be a mirror situation with non-mirror solution..
I have a test flash file that registers its own listener at first frame's actions.
trace("it's going to be OK");
stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, aKey);
Unfortunately neither line works when .swf is loaded into another movie. Assuming that stage object is wrong for such situations, which object should be used to get listener?
Is it necessary to rewrite loader in parent swf, as said in the linked question?
I have two movie clip on the stage. The movieclip mc1 has a masked layer in it self that the movieclip seen like a ring ( like it has a hole in it ) and the movieclip2 is simple square movieclip that is under the movclip1 on the stage. So movieclip2 is seen from within the hole of the movieclip1 but it doesn't catch events when i click mc2 (the movieclip under) from within the hole of the mc1.[code]...

View 9 RepliesI have an editable mx:Combobox. I want to catch two events: When a user enters some text, or edits some text.When a user changes the selection (selects an item from the combo box).Is it possible? I have been using change event, but it is fired in both cases and I can't differentiate it. Is there a better way of doing this?
View 1 RepliesI have a BorderContainer with some instances of spark Line. I need to select this lines by clicking on this. But adding event mouse click listener fails. ASdoc [URL] says that line have only activate and deactivate events. Any best way to detect whether line clicked (use another line class?). I think that catching of clicks in the bordercontainer is bad solution.
View 2 Replieshandling global keyboard events in Flex, is to attach a listener in the application complete event of a Flex application. However, no matter what I try, I have not been able to catch events without clicking on a point on the page, which is hosting my Flex application.
Moreoever, if I use a Flex component in a web application, where there is also html and Javascript, I'd still like to be able to grap global keyboard events, even if the embedded flex component (in flash player) does not have focus. So is there a reliable method for connecting flex applications and components (when they're embedded in a web page) to keyboard events?
I have a slider with arrows on the end to operate/advance it. If you hover over an arrow the slider slides. When you roll off/hover off the arrow the slider stops. The problem is that if you hover off to quickly it still thinks the cursor is over the arrow and it continues to slide. Is there any way to address this?

In Flash AS3 i wanna write the single try catch block in order to catch any errors in whole class. For ex, i have a lot of functions in myClass.as. I don'w wanna write in each function try catch blocks in order to catch errors in this function. Is there any methods to do this?
View 2 RepliesSuppose I have an application and a global event listener in it. Should the key events, who are fired in the PopUp, be caught by that listener? Or maybe popups are not placed in that hierarchy?Here's simplified test-code for you to understand what I'm talking about:

<mx:Script>
private function init():void {

I'm considering using Adobe Air to write an application for the android marketplace.I was wondering if anyone could tell me what (if any) the limitations are with regard to getting / handling system events.For instance can you pause the app if the user receives a text message?Or detect if they have their music playing and mute your app's sounds?It would seem a real pity if Air cannot do this.
View 1 RepliesI'm not new to Flash or AS3 but I've never really made anything too complex. I'm making a Flash game and getting to know Variables for the first time. The tutorials online confuse me because they're mostly geared towards AS2 and I bought this book (which is awesome) Game Design with Flash, but it only covers variables involving numbers and a guessing game.
All I want right now is a field to enter your name and below, whatever the user has entered, will show up in a Dynamic text field that will go, "Oh, so your name is (whatever)?" I understand that the information that the user types into the Input Text Field has to be entered in somehow, so do I need to make a function to make it work with a button? Right now I can type in the Input but nothing shows up in the Dynamic text field. I borrowed an AS3 example from elsewhere on this forum and added my own Instance names. I also wanted to know, how can I call up the user's name throughout the game? Just calling that same variable up?

I'm new to Flex, Flash, and ActionScript. I'm attempting to create a video player that starts another video when the previous video ends. I thought there might be an event that is thrown when the video finishes playing, but I have not been able to find it.
VideoEvent.COMPLETE is when the video is completely downloaded, not when it is completely done playing. Does such an event exist? how I could subclass SWFLoader, Image, or Video to support such an event?
I'm trying to do something that seems simple, but I've been looking all over for the right information and I can't seem to find it.I've got an input text field and various movieclips. On the click of a button or hitting "enter", i am able to trace what is typed into the input text field.I want certain inputted numbers to trigger movie clip events (gotoAndStop, etc).
View 2 RepliesMy Flash game targets 24 fps, but slows to 10 on slower machines. This is fine, except Flash decides to throttle the queue of incoming MouseEvent and KeyboardEvents, and they stack up and the Events fall behind. Way behind. It's so bad that, at 10 fps, if I spam the Mouse and Keyboard for a few seconds not much happens, then, after I stop, the game seems to play itself for the next 5 seconds as the Events trickle in. Spooky, I know.
Does anyone know a way around this? I basically need to say to Flash, "I know you think we're falling behind, but throttling the input events won't help. Give them to me as soon as you get them, please."
Lets say i have a html file that contain a form:

we have load this html file using HTMLLoader inside an swf file.
_htmlLoader = new HTMLLoader();
_htmlLoader.paintsDefaultBackground = false;
var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest(urlValue);
_htmlLoader.load(req);
_stage.addChild(_htmlLoader);
After loading this Swf file using Loader inside main application, text boxes are readonly and can't type in it. But we can change focus of them using Mouse.
var loader1:Loader = new Loader();
loader1.load(new URLRequest("path to file.swf"));
// ...
this.addChild(loader1);
// ...
<fx:Script>

import mx.controls.*;
import mx.controls.TextInput;
import mx.events.ListEvent;
public function init():void {

I have implemented this one. I am getting 5 textboxes with empty value, if I entered some value in each textbox then, I want to get specific 3rd textbox value wen some event trigger.
One of our application is implemented in flex and adobe air. We want to have the user press combination of keys, say 'ABC', and have the keyboard return a different character, 'FOG', to whatever app is in focus. This should work even if app has no focus.
Will it possible in Adobe Air/Flex? If yes, provide me some examples?
I have a swf, loaded into the non-application sandbox in Adobe AIR 1.5 (the shell is already installed with our users so I can't update to version 2+).On the stage in the swf are buttons, movieclips, animations etc - all of these work fine.When we add an input TextField, selecting this TextField causes a Security Sandbox Violation. Error message (in debug mode) is (I've edited the actual file names):
[trace] *** Security Sandbox Violation ***

I have encountered strange problem. I have created simple Flash text field control and I wanted to compare its content with some other string. This comparison in triggered when user is pressing the button.In Action Script 2.0 code I noticed that a caret return character () was added at the end of the string coming from the input text field.It is easy to overcome the problem obviously, however I would like to understand what is going on. I use Flash CS4 with AS 2.0.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to develop a simple mxml Flex application to start Skype from the AIR/Flashplayer runtime. Is it possible to get back events from a native Windows application? In the simple example of Skype, the OS returns control to the Flex app when Skype exits. But what about native applications which have their own event model and wants to communicate with the Flex event model. For example, a Face detection system which shows "Hello" on a Flex app when the camera detects a face. Can this be done in the current Flex framework?
View 1 RepliesJust wanted to ask if there is any advantage for either using mouse click event or touch tap events, when writing apps for mobiles or tablets (for the iphone especially)?
I know that both of them should work fine, but in term of performance, is anyone better? Are there any things I should be aware of when choosing either?
By the way am using actionscript3 to implement the app.
I have an animation that I want to start when clicking on the flash window. However, I've also have some buttons on the stage. If I add an event listener for MouseEvent.CLICK on the stage, then it 'eats up' the events and the buttons don't work.
I've tried some tricks, by adding some invisible buttons on top of the real ones, and use the MOUSE_OVER event to selectively enable/disable the mouseEnabled flag for the stage, but didn't work because it complains that the property or method doesn't exist (which I find odd).
I have noticed that using the "addEventListener" and coming back into a frame, I get multiple events tied to the same component.The design I am using jumps to an "I" frame (intermediate) and then back to the "M" frame (main) when the user performs an action.I add event listeners to several components when I enter that M frame. What I notice is that the events seem to stack up for a particular component.
For instance, if I enter M frame, N number of times and addEventListener("click", handleEvent) to a radio button, I get N calls to handleEvent when the user clicks on the radio button. I guess this kinda makes sense but is not what I want. I just want one event of a particular type (in this case "click") to be associated with the a particular component. I get around this issue by removing the event(s) in the I frame. Then they get reinstalled in the M frame. Only one at a time.
So, just wondering about this behaviour. Is there a way to check for the number of events that are currently active on a particular component? Better way to handle adding events?
I am designing a music player using JavaScript (jQuery) and HTML5, with Flash AS3 to fall back. Basically what I want to do is to be able to click HTML control elements and have them interact with the flash in order to play/pause and skip tracks in the playlist (playlist JSON file read by JavaScript, passes file ID to AS3, AS3 reads another JSON file to get URL, then plays audio)
This enables me to only use the Flash to play the audio, thus creating the same user experience regardless of HTML5 browser support. I'm assuming I will have to 'listen' for events in AS3, however any pointers in how to engage these events in JS and react to the events in AS3
I currently have something going that gets me a pretty accurate value inside a swf (one I have no control over), but I want even more precision
I know it will sometimes send out data about itself to other locations
