Autocomplete :: Flash Builder Code Completion For Flash Libraries?
Feb 3, 2011Is it possible to get auto completion for flash libraries in flash builder 4.0?

View 2 RepliesFor some reason Flash Builder 4 doesn't autocomplete any more for new projects I create (either pure Actionscript or Flash Pro projects). But for previous projects it still works fine.For instance when I go to create a new actionscript class, when I click browse next to Superclass there are only TWO classes that come up. EventDispatcher & Sprite. Where have the rest of the classes gone?
When I try to type inside the class.. ie var mc:MovieClip... as I'm typing MovieClip nothing comes up any more.. pushing ctrl+space doesn't bring up a list of classes either. Importing classes, no code hinting comes up at all.I haven't changed anything in Flash Builder between now and when my previous projects were created.
I keep getting this warning in css: Type 'AutoComplete' in CSS selector 'AutoComplete' must be qualified with a namespace. I can't seem to get it fixed.
View 2 RepliesI started to use Flash Builder with Adobe Flash CS5. Everything seems to ork great, but auto code completion if FB works only for FlexSDK classes. For example, if I'll write "import fl." list with "events;ik;lang; ..." appears, but when I write "import flash." i have ".text" suggestion only. I would be very glad if someone could tell me how to fix this. I couldn't find anything in google (code completion in Flash Pro works great, only in Flash Builder not).
View 1 RepliesAt this years Flash on the beach i saw a speaker using small 'code-keywords' that would complete entire sets of AS-code, depending on the keyword.Ex.:He would write @forloop, hit enter/space and a typical for-loop would be written automatically.Unfortunately he never said how to access this functionality in Flash.
View 1 RepliesI thought this was possible, but I seem to have trouble making it work.I want to have my code/class library stored in an RSL (as a SWF online) which is then loaded during runtime by the host SWF. I learned about this technique from Colin Moock in his book Essential Actionscript 3.0 (Chapter 31: Distributing a Class Library).Now, I know that if you share graphics between SWFs via RSLs, you can update the graphic in the RSL and have all SWFs that access that RSL use that updated graphic.But I want to store code in an online RSL, that is shared by multiple SWFs, and then when the code needs to be updated, I simply recompile the SWF (do I even need to worry about the SWC anymore?) containing the class library and upload and overwrite the existing RSL on the web. Voila! The code is now updated in all SWFs that share that RSL Class Library.
The problem is, I can't get it to work right. CS3 and CS4 aren't updating and CS5 just crashes on export!The code I'm testing with simply outputs some chosen text to screen.I want to change the string that's output by changing the code. Nothing fancy now, but it'll obviously be used for far more indepth stuff when (if?) I get this going properly.
For some reason code completion/intellisense has stopped working for new properties in our projects.These are the symptoms:Add a new property to a class If you go to a different class, and you try to use that property, the intellisense dropdown doesn't show the new property. It does show the already existing ones.If you build the project, everything works fine, there are no errors or compiler warnings.The property will not show in intellisense until you restart Flex Builder (version 3).We have tried it on different machines and als tried to set up the workspace again, but the symptoms stay the same everywhere in our project.
View 2 RepliesProblem: I would like to enable code hinting and highlighting in either Flash Professional or Flash Builder when developing an Actionscript Communications File (.asc). Steps Taken: Searched Google with limited success, most signs all pointed to [URL] where one may obtain an Eclipse Plugin, but:It was created in 2007 (likely out dated)It has known bugs that haven't been addressedSearched this forum / adobe's web site to find a solution, to no avail.Posted this, now, in an attempt to put this to rest Request: how I can enable FP or FB to give code hints / syntax highlighting
View 9 RepliesIn fLash Builder 2, I would eventually like to select a bunch of lines of code in the actions panel, click with the right mouse button and click "apply // comment" but that doesnt work in FlashBuilder , at least not that way. this seems to be a kind of a silly problem but it iirrtates me
View 1 RepliesI just downloaded the 30 day trial of adobe flash cs4.why the code completion/hints would not be showing up? Either when typing a "(" for a method or a "." I get nothing. "code hints" is checked off in my prefs and the delay is at 0 sec. Also, If I click the show code hint button in the AS window nothing happens.
View 3 RepliesIt seems all codes inside fx:Script blocks are black with no highlights. That's pretty inconvenient.
View 2 Replieswhile attempting to set my own format for my ActionScript 3.0 code, i found Preferences > Java > Code Style > Formatter. i then set the braces and indent format so my code will automate like this when it's written: i realize that ActionScript 3.0 and Java are completely different languages, but their syntax is nearly identical so i assumed that the Eclipse based Flash Builder would treat my AS3 as Java. it's exactly what i'm looking for since it allows me to change the default code format:

I was using a trial edition of flash builder 4 professional and I figured before it ran out I would test the profiler. What shocked me was the number of objects that were left resident in memory. After seeing that I decided to set up a small test and had very bad luck. I was hoping someone can look at the following and tell me assumption i have that is just wrong.

Anything like that out there now? I know there was a rather buggy formatter for FB 3, but how about a mature code formatter for FB 4?
View 1 RepliesI'm posting this since i just lost a half an hour with this. FlashDevelop for some reason doesn't always know code completion for classes in the fl package, to fix this add this to you Global Class path (make sure to select AS3): C:Program FilesFlashDevelopLibraryAS3frameworksFlashIDE
View 0 RepliesI'm getting a Flash Builder warning message for multiple variable declarations of variable arr1 in the following AS3 [code]...
I could eliminate this warning with a few more if/else statements, but the code runs fine and I can't see why I should add complexity if the warning is acceptable. Would like to hear anyone else's opinion though if you think differently.
Assuming the warning is fine to live with, how to suppress the warning manually in Flash Builder? That is, only the warning for this example; other warnings must still be displayed.
Is there a way to load a file and waiting for the event listener with out continuing executing other code.
I tried using a while loop with a flag that is set by the on Complete in order to exit the wait loop.
This generates a timeout error. private var loaded:Boolean = false;
function SpriteLoader(filepath:String){
trace("Attempting to Load File:" + filepath);
FileLoader = new Loader();
var FileRequest = new URLRequest(filepath);

In Flash Builder, for objects, properties, variables and such where your cursor is on it, the editor highlights all instances of that name in the code with a grey box. This can be very distracting and I was wondering if there was a way to turn it off or if there is a hot key to disable it.Another things that is very distracting are the mouse hover popups, although apparently there's no way to disable those :
Flash Builder + Eclipse: disable mouse hover popup?
I was editing a very basic mobile Flex project, and after I debugged the master (application) mxml file, Design View stopped working (blank screen displayed, no Design View errors) for all files. Creating new projects, either mobile or else, or testing old, working projects, doesn't work either. Out of the related issues I've found info on, most concern earlier versions of the IDE, and deal with either Design View errors (got none), use of certain functions or custom components (I get the error even on a new project), or are solved by changing styles back-and-forth (tried already, to no avail).
I can't drag and drop components to the design area, either (a "prohibited" symbol appears and nothing happens when I drop); so I'm pretty sure it's not code-related or a bug, but probably something stupid, like a configuration issue, so I definitely need someone to take a fresh look at it.
I'm using jQuery Autocomplete just as in this example: [URL] The problem is, the area where you see the Result box in that example - that's where my flash object is. So, when the autocomplete dropdown appears, most of the text is concealed by the flash object (which I can't move). How can I make the autocomplete text appear over the flash object (concealing its view rather than vice versa)?

In the main file, I would write[code]...
But if I want the component to have that behaviour innately, where do I write it in the mybutton mxml file to have it reference itself?[code]...
I have an AIR project that I was working on Flash Builder 4.5 which now I'm trying to import to my updated Flash Builder 4.5.1 and it is prompting me to fix some paths before the import is completed. I'm kinda clueless what I should put in those fields.

The project access a web server to retrieve data using JSON.
Does anyone know if there is a way to make the new Package Explorer window in Flash Builder emulate Flex Builders 'Flex navigator' window?
Bottom line is I don't always need to peer into SWC's, and I don't like having a 'default package' automatically created for me. Not sure why the interface wasn't made simpler, allowing access to more power and complexity only if necessary. I want to focus on the code, not on how to navigate and use the bells and whistles in the coding environment.
I have a pure AS3 project. I use Ant to build it. Here is a part of my ant script:
<target name="mxmlc">
<exec executable="${flex.home}/${mxmlc}" failonerror="true">
<arg line="-compiler.include-libraries=${lib}"/>
<arg line="-compiler.incremental=false"/>
<arg line="-compiler.optimize=true"/>

The problem is that my resulting SWF is really big. When I checked what is inside I saw that it has mx.* libs from Flex. Why it is like this? How to kick mx.* from my SWF? In my code I don't use anything from mx.* library.
Are there any custom libraries available that allow me to code/publish in CS3 using some of the features of CS4?
EDIT: I say "some", because I understand that it is obviously nearly impossible to reimplememnt CS4 in CS3.
I've started using Shared Libraries and this subject peaked my interest... does Flash still have load timing issues with Shared Libraries? I found a few site online that mention that your Flash project will load but if it didn't have time to load your Shared Library, it simply won't load it and you are out of luck. Is this still true with the latest version of Flash? If so, how do I preload the library to make sure it doesn't happen?
View 1 RepliesThe following embed code works fine when I load swfobject.js locally. However, when I try to load the swfobject.js from Google Library APIs, the Flash movie fails to load. I know I'm using a valid key, and the swfobject.js file is definetely being loaded, but I get an "Uncaught ReferenceError: SWFObject is not defined (anonymous function)"

What are the best unit testing frameworks or libraries for AS3 programming? Specifically for projects that do not involve Flex, only Flash.
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to build a flex 4 application that references or uses the flex 4 libraries (or any libraries that are compatible) without the project compiling them into the main SWF of the project.
So in a nut shell, I have a project and I want to load the flex 4 library from the server, is this possible? I've seen articles on compiler settings. Could this be the solution to loading the library from the server?
